The Mrs is in a bit of a funk in that her daughter and her family, who were scheduled to come in for Christmas from Seattle, are now saying they won't be here. Covid ya know. So she informed me that this year we're only putting up one tree. Normally we have one in the living room (10 ft artificial...12 foot ceilings) and one in the dining room (regular 8 foot tree...not as wide, big). Both are prewired trees with the white lights (we both like). Dining room tree is the elegant one, like you say, with all silver or gold ball ornaments....while the living room is white lights but ornaments are all Hallmark, etc of different things. Then we put a Lionel train under it with a Christmas village layout.Won a small victory today.
We went out and got our Christmas tree. Fat, handsome Frazier Fur.
My wife had been saying for weeks it was her turn to decide decorations, and she wanted “elegant, simple white lights.” Now no offense to white light fans but me and the kids like lurid, loud, wet colored lights - the more garish the better.
But I advised them to say nothing. We brought the tree home, the white lights went up, we all said the right things and I went out for a walk with my son.
When we got back the tree was bare again and the white lights were put away.
“I didn’t like it. We need the usual multi-color look,” she says. Ho ho ho.
We're scaling back this year as well because it'll be the first year since 1999 that we won't be hosting the Christmas Eve gathering for my wife's side of the family. We're handing that honor down to my niece, at least for this year. I used to put my prized Lionel train that I got for Christmas in 1964 (4 years old) under the tree in the basement but I gave it to my grandnephew. 5 year-old that's really into old school toys. Only one tree this year. I'm still going to have the Christmas spirit regardless. The Mrs is in a bit of a funk in that her daughter and her family, who were scheduled to come in for Christmas from Seattle, are now saying they won't be here. She says she's not going to fool with the one in the living room. Bigger and a lot more work.
So, I'm trying to figure out if she'll change her mind....or will I put it up....or will we do without it this year?
Really like the two trees, but when you get older...kids are grown...grandkids aren't coming...a lot harder to get in the mood.

Put it up and the train underneath. 'Riding on the city of New Orleans' . . . . . Illinois Central Monday morning rail
I just thought of something else. Nobody that I can recall ever took an animal to a vet. It either got better or died and you got another.
Shoveling snow is something I know nothing about. I have never done it in my life. I have heard stories it is bad for your heart but your story touched me. That is so sad.Beautiful, sunny but cold morning in Ohio. AustinTXCat mentioned he was heading home before the snow hits....we're expecting some come tomorrow. Not a lot but the first of the season.
Got a flat tire on the snowblower, so if it does snow hope it's a small amount otherwise the shovel will have to come out.....and that's not a lot of fun in our driveway. Pretty long driveway.
Everytime it snows, and I get the blower out (or shovel) I think of my Dad. He retired early (about 57), so one day when he was 62 it snowed. So he went out and cleared his and Mom's driveway then he proceeded to go up and down the street and cleared 4 or 5 of their neighbor's driveways. Extremely cold out. Came in the house...wasn't feeling good...was going to the bedroom to lay down and had a heart attack. About 5 days later he was gone.
Noticed that part of my daily Bible reading is in the Book of Palms. Should be interesting.
Get out of those racks people! It's time to get popping!
Sorry did not mean to yell, the psychologist told me yesterday that I need to get the military out me and try to be more civilian for my wife and daughter. 20 years of active military service, 7 years working for a military contractor on base and 15 years civil service working for the military has a lasting affect on you. Who knew? 🤪

This was my Dad’s motto. I try to do this every dayGood Sunday Morning Big D
We have a bright Sunday morning with 65º and no active alerts in the Gulf. We are headed to 81º by mid afternoon. No rain and the UV index is O, The winds are calm. A beautiful morning to serve our Lord.
I trust all is well and those with COVID are feeling better and whipping that virus. I am looking forward to a good message from the pastor this morning and a good rest of the day. Take care D Leaguers
We went back to in person service in late October.Since we have had Covid, we are going back to church for in-person service, today. We have been watching on facebook, for months, but it is just not the same as in person. Be careful going home, Austin.
We never quite get over the passing of our parents. But thank God we have a promise of a great reunion someday. I look more and more forward to that day as it grows closer with each tick of the clockThis was my Dad’s motto. I try to do this every day
I sure miss him
Yeah, I thought the same thing after leaving. There always seems to be people trying to change you. That was an appointment suggested and set up by the VA. I am now going through the VA for medical appointments because Reynolds Army Community Hospital only lets me see PA's and they generally just tell me "I don't know what to tell you" on any of my maladies which is why I have only gone during times of real pain. My wife has been prodding my about getting checkups but Reynolds does not do a very good job of taking care of me (which is why I don't go unless I hurt bad) but, because of Tri-Care I have to use them unless they authorize somewhere off post for something they can't handle. Once I hit 65 August of 2022 I will get some some real doctors appointments set up.P_SS on that physcho-ologist. Carry on as the man you are. Being who you are got you where you are and NOW a physcho-ologist tells you,... You were wrong.... P_SS on the dasturb...
Oh, May all your day be sunny. you all...
Tarot Cards for me.So ... you are a palm reader, eh? I stick with my ol' trusted crystal ball myself.
The care at VA hospitals has really improved the last four years. I hope it remains that way. The facilities in this area are top of the line but we have a lot of military retirees in the career officer ranks so I bet they make sure the hospitals are good.Yeah, I thought the same thing after leaving. Go Cats.Good morning from ATX. Currently 36°F and partly cloudy. Today's high is expected at 59°F.
I'll check weather predictions, but may leave either later this afternoon after the game or early tomorrow morning. Last thing I need is get snowed in with that rear-wheel drive Dodge Charger.
Cats play Richmond in Rupp at 1 pm EST today. Go Cats!
Wishing all our fellow D-League members happiness and health.
