Any other dinosaur/fossil nerds here? The Smithsonian Natural History Museum, thanks to a generous donation by the Koch brothers, is opening its years-in-the-development new fossil hall tomorrow.

When I was a boy growing up in the Ohio River valley fossils from an era way before the dinosaurs - the Ordovician Era 380 million years ago -- were plentiful; plant life and shells and nautiloids and so on. I developed a lifetime fascination with "Deep Time" trying to grasp those living creatures being on the same spot where I was standing an unimaginably long time ago.
The exhibit will be mobbed for the first few weeks. But I work just a few blocks away and can sneak over in off hours.
