D-League

Just watched a documentary on Indian Head Rock, I had never heard of it till today. Interesting what happens when politics gets involved in things. Good show to watch! It ended up being a battle between Southern Ohio and Northern Ky.

Actually, Cord, it is between Southern Ohio, (Portsmouth) and Eastern Ky (South Shore). We followed that controversy here for a few years, since it is just about 25 minutes down the river from us. The latest is that they are now thinking it could be a hoax, but, it was pretty clear cut. The Ohio River belongs to Ky where it borders Ohio.

I live down the street in Smiths Grove from Leon Tarter, my cousin. He landed in Normandy June 7, DDay plus 1. He is still alive and still works.

He was one of my hero's growing up.

Bert, I just passed through Smith's Grove, yesterday. Stopped at the antique stores. Nice town.

Any other dinosaur/fossil nerds here? The Smithsonian Natural History Museum, thanks to a generous donation by the Koch brothers, is opening its years-in-the-development new fossil hall tomorrow.

When I was a boy growing up in the Ohio River valley fossils from an era way before the dinosaurs - the Ordovician Era 380 million years ago -- were plentiful; plant life and shells and nautiloids and so on. I developed a lifetime fascination with "Deep Time" trying to grasp those living creatures being on the same spot where I was standing an unimaginably long time ago.

The exhibit will be mobbed for the first few weeks. But I work just a few blocks away and can sneak over in off hours.

Leave today. Kentucky is a wonderful place.

Attended my youngest nephew's middle school graduation at old Male high school. Boring as hell but I don't regret it. My Dad is a 1951 Male grad and to listen to him wax nostalgic was worth the suffering. Just thinking about the "who's who" alums from that school is impressive.

Hey D I'm alive and making it. Kitchen Is finally remodeled but was worth it and surprised
me how much I like it. The main thing is the wife loves IT!

Jealous. I want a new kitchen.

That is not a doughnut.

And, unlike today, they printed the truth.

Did they? What were the checks and balances on the press prior to social media and nearly every human having a camera with them at all times?

Ben, you have missed out on an excellent opportunity! You and Bert have much to talk about. He knows Joe B very well. I suspect you know him as well.

I want to say once again how happy I am that you decided to join us here in the oasis. Any UK fan should be honored to know you guys who know the guys that made this what it is. Cheers! Go Big Blue!

Somewhere, there is a picture of about 6 year old me sitting inside the jawbone of a whale. It was taken at a museum in the downtown Louisville area. Not the Speed. They had shrunken heads there too.

Giving it serious consideration for September. One final tour before the undertaker if you will. It really eats at me some days. May have to come alone. I won't like that in that life is not much fun without her along. I think she'll cave in (she really, really .really hates flying) and come with me, not because she wants to, but to keep me happy. We'll see. Would fly back and rent a car. Can't stand the thought of driving across this country again. Got no closel living relatives there any more. My family (parents, grandparents, five brothers) are all in cemetaries in Middlesboro.

I have been directing all of my attention to the weather report the past few days. So the girl on the 6:00 news says "it might rain and it might not". OK and she gets a six figure salary for that. It might but it might not. So scientific

Our local weather guy on TV explained it to us this way regarding why the weather reports can vary so much......

He said that, in most areas, the National Weather Service, assigns a percentage chance of precipitation that covers a 60 mile radius from a particular reporting station. So, given this info and parameters, let's say that the weather man forecasts a 40% chance of thunderstorms. He's basically saying that, within that 60 mile radius, 40% coverage of that area will see some rain. So, in my area, in a 60 mile radius of Chattanooga, it could be raining hard in Cleveland, but be dry at my house, and the forecast would technically still be correct.

Anyway, I hope you get some rain and get that lake filled back up!!! We got deluged up here again today. It's amazing how some areas get way too much, while other places can't buy a drop of rain.

It's also perspective: Out here on the edge of the universe. These weekly storms are keeping the air clear. Frequently, I can see mountains & storms over 100 miles in the distance.

Good morning D League

And it is already a very good morning. Rain, Rain, Rain, Rain and more rain. It rains on the just and the unjust and it rains on me. I was so glad to get the rain I went outside and sat down and just soaked it in. Thunder and lightning and all. Just let her rip. You never get enough rain in Florida.

And now to the important stuff. Football recruiting. I have been reading some very encouraging information on HOB and I am excited to kick off the season. But first we must enjoy summer. And I do enjoy a good hot, humid summer day. Bring it on.

Trust all have a great day and weekend. I think I will just soak in some more rain.

Good morning D League and happy Saturday.

Spending the day on the Delaware Shore at my brother-in-law’s house near the beach in Bethany.

Always enjoy the first trip to the beach of the summer. Looking forward to lunch at the best authentic British Fish and Chips place in the area.
It is hard to beat good fish and chips and you live in an area where you can get some of the best. The rain helped my garden so I went out a few minutes ago and picked a mess of peppers to fry up for supper. Also picked a few avocados but it will take a few days for them to ripen. Who needs Mexico?

So ymmot, how many days till BBM? FCC.

I honestly have no idea.

Raining here again today as well. I'll be going out to the shop here in a bit to put another coat of spar urethane on the screen doors. I was hoping to get away with two coats but didn't get lucky.

Got the fence fixed on the saw table I built last year. That table will come in very handy for building the chairs I have in mind. Circular saw, jig saw, router, and sanding disc all in one. I'll have to use a different saw for the dado cuts but I have a dedicated saw for that.

I don't know what I'll jump into after this is finished but it won't be anything too soon or too complicated. Maybe some planter boxes to go along the outside of the patio. Simple boxes.
