What type of bird is he?
cordmaker believe it or not it is a real bird. The Grandala. I posted it in honor or our school colors.

"The Grandala (Grandala coelicolor) is a bird species now placed in the family Turdidae. It is an arboreal insectivore. It ranges across the northeastern Indian Subcontinent and some adjoining regions, existing primarily in the low-to-mid altitudes of the Himalayas. It is found in Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Tibet, and China"

Here is a short video.

Good morning D-League

It is a pleasant Saturday morning and the coffee taste mighty good this time of day. Temperatures will be in the 80's by mid afternoon. I am headed down to Indian Rocks Beach for a few days. Staying in a nice little cottage on the Gulf of Mexico. Old school. Celebrating my 52 year wedding anniversary.

On this day in 1967 my Commanding Officer gave me a 3 day pass to marry my fiancee of two years. I was stationed at Fort Knox, KY and we were married in Ashville, North Carolina. When I picked up my pass the Captain said you better come back here a married man, and stay out of Louisville. I really didn't have any money back then making less than $100 a month as a soldier boy so my girl gave me a $20.00 bill and said "let's do this". I had saved my money and bought a ring so that cost was covered. North Carolina required a pre-marital physical exam by a doctor and a blood test. That cost me $6.00. (still have the receipt). Our marriage license was $5.00. I gave the preacher man $5.00 at the First Baptist Church in downtown Ashville to marry us and we had a few dollars left over to buy some gas and get back to the U.S. Army.

That is how you did it 52 years ago. They said we wouldn't last 6 months. They were wrong. Oh, the reason we picked April 7 as our wedding day. Because in 1967 the NCAA tournament was over and I did not want our future anniversaries to conflict with the NCAA basketball tournament. It was finished by the end of March in those days.

Congrats to you and the wife; here's to having a relaxing weekend together.

Congratulations on 52 years. Wishing you many more.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 69°F, humid and overcast. Expecting more precious, beautiful rain later today. Hopefully we could see upper 70s this afternoon.

We plan on watching Final Four games beginning at 5:09 PM CDT today. Primary reason is because TTU plays MSU in the later game. Food and drink. Sort of a mini-Super Bowl party for us.

We've got more chores on the agenda for today. Check back with y'all later. Behave.

Morning D
B-E-A-uti-ful morning. Suns out!
High of 73, golf scramble this afternoon.
Did some coffee, drank a few bills...now I gotta do a bit of yard work before I head out for the day.
Still no volunteers for driving...the redhead isn't looking forward to it.
Actually need to be responsible today. I'm an usher at church tomorrow. I'll be fine...just talk a big game.
Every time I tee off today I'm gonna yell "ANNNNNDDD 1"
Daughter has her Wedding shower today....gettin' hitched in a month.
Congrats Sawnee
Wish I was nervous about a basketball game today.....oh well.
Shout at you tomorrow.

Good morning! Coffee was waiting on me when I got up and it's almost gone now. I don't know what I'll be doing today but I've thought about making some charcoal. I might as well pick up sticks and put them directly in the barrel rather than pick them up twice.

Congrats Sawnee!

Good story.

Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Sawnee.

I have you beat by a few months. Sherry and I got married August 18, 1966 after a 2 month dating period. I married into money. Sherry had $150 in her checking account.

I love you're ability to make a decision. My anniversary being St. Paddys.

This songbird family with a circumpolar biogeographic distributution is better known as thrushes. People everywhere love them . . . they eat bugs. The Robin is a big one with folks. Back to bluebirds the color is actually structural. It is an evolutionary adaptation assisting concealment for aerial foraging ambush. Quite remarkable.

Going to go to the hardware store this morning need to pick up some material to finish my Bluebird house. I need to paint it a drab color, but it will still have a big K on it !!
The #1 limiting factor to blue birds are cavities for nesting cover. They forage insects of intersperced woodland gardens. Boxes do well high on shaded walls.

I am officially making the first charcoal of the year. Now I'm going to have to cut more wood for the next batch. I'm using red maple and it's very hard. I've got some oak to use but not enough yet for a full load and I don't want to mix it. No real reason.

It takes a lot of time, effort, and sweat to make a batch of charcoal that I can buy for $20. It's fun though and really the same as baking a cake. Put the proper ingredients in the proper proportions in a suitable container, apply heat and time. VIOLA! Charcoal! or a cake.

edit: here is the write up that I copied with my setup.
