I am going to be looking for some fishing buddies in Florida Gulf coast in early 2020. Any of you fish saltwater? Location will be flexible from year to year as we intend to rent Jan. Thru March each year. Probably am gonna buy a bay boat or a flats boat.
If you like the flats and enjoy tarpon fishing some of the best on the Gulf Coast is from Hernando Beach north to Crystal River. A famous hall of fame baseball player lived there and fished the area often. Ted Williams. Here is a video of flat fishing for tarpon that will whet your appetite. Watch the tarpon jump in the boat.

I've fished a lot south of Sarasota. Have never been on the Florida coast North of there except offshore and nearshore at Panama City.

Lol

The only tarpon I've caught was off Siesta Key, about 100 pounds
Love redfish, trout, pompano.......well just about anything really. May try sailfishing off Miami in February

Consider the Modified V for your boat. The flat is nice for extremely swallow water (think swamp). To deal with surf or swift rivers you want a V. The modified V gives more stability when at rest and good control when on the move with an ability to cut across a current.

I won't be fishing any swift rivers.

I had the pleasure of using a 19' Boston Whaler "Justice" for some riverine avian biological assessments. Nice compact workboat :) Larger/wider/roomer "flats" were better for the limnological investigations on the calmer lakes . . . unless a storm popped up and they weren't calm anymore. Boats are like trucks, guns, & dogs. Made for different things.

btw: You've got good taste.

  • Good Morning, D-League
  • 42º and sunny with a high of 69. It is cool sports fans but I refuse to wear shoes. This ole boy is barefoot and happy.
  • I am back on my normal 5:30 am wake up and feel good. A couple of time I slept to 7:00 and felt bad all day.
  • Coffee is nice and hot and gooood!!
  • The rodeo is in town today and tomorrow and that is always fun. There are a lot of ranches around here with cattle and horses. Everybody loves the rodeo.
  • Busy day today, I just about have my garage the way i want it and should have it finished today.
  • Have a great day

32.7°F here at the moment. It was 30.0°F at 6am. Bright sunshine and it is supposed to get to the mid sixties this afternoon.

I have an appointment with the oncologist at 10 am and blood work at 9:30 am. I always dread these things.

edit: correction .....to get to the mid fifties this afternoon.

Morning to all. Well the fires in Cal and homes lost lives lost, people displaced, breaks your heart. Is there any way to get in some kind of underground shelter during a fire of that sort? FCC.

Interesting question. An underground shelter would keep you from the flames, but it would have to have its own air supply I would think. Seems to me that a big fire going over the top of your shelter would suck all the oxygen out as it went over. Provided it had ventilation.

Let's kick this around. You wouldn't be in there long I don't think. Just until the fire passes over. Probably some stats on that somewhere. So 02 small supply. Shelter made of fire retardant so immune from fire passing over. What do you think? FCC

Good morning all. A beautiful 59 degrees here in SWFL with a high today of only 71. I would take this all winter.

I'm kind of apprehensive about the football game tomorrow, I know it's MTSU but they have the kind of offense that historically gives us fit.

Son just informed me he was named VP of their company and will be moving out west. Good for him, He has always been a hard worker.

Hope Bert has an easy time this morning at his appointment, and hope all those Ailing will start feeling better. Hope Ghost little granddaughter starts feeling better as well. Y'all have a great day!

Shelter would have to be heat resistant. FCC
Now to this academic consideration:

If it were a grass fire no problem underground. If it was a forest fire or a house above you on fire one would think that the oxygen would be reduced as it would take a long time to burn up the fuel as its one ingredient outside the fire and fuel is oxygen.

Certainly wouldn't place it under your house. FCC.

Thank you for that one, Sawnee Cat. It is one of my favorites.
It is amazing how talented he was. He could play just about anything with strings but on a guitar there are few who were better. It is a shame so many people do not know his talent and see him as a country bumpkin. That was an act and far from the truth. He was as good as anybody

I don't think it's a viable option. The best thing would be to leave the area as soon as they tell you there is a fire. Time and money would be better spent by making your property uninviting to a fire...

Unless your house was built with flame retardant/resistant materials. Please continue. FCC.

such as this suggestion.

Thank God and Greyhound you're gone!

I loved that song.

I've been monitoring the conversation somewhat while at work. I'll respond when I get home in about 6 hrs. Yes there are things that can be done.

Yep, there are things that can be done. Don't build your house in the middle of Kansas and assume you'll never encounter a tornado. Don't build your house on the beach and expect the ocean to remain on his side of the sand. Don't build your house on the side of a hill and expect there to be no fires or mudslides.

I've seen a California wildfire first hand but the one I saw was not a major fire like these last couple. I saw the planes and helicopters dropping chemicals and water. The helicopters were loading up their buckets in the ocean right out from my house. This was around 1982 and I remember hearing them talk about how efficient they were at putting out fires before they became huge and uncontrollable. Eventually though, nature will win. Always has, always will.

Ha, I dated a girl for over a year back in the late 90's until we finally broke up for good. Several of the other times could have been for good but she kept on coming back and the sex was awesome. Anyway, this day I knew I was done. I was driving home and was probably 20 minutes away from her house and I happened to see myself in the rear view mirror. I had a big ol cheesy smile on my face and I guess it was there from the moment I left her driveway. I just started laughing because the subconscious smile told me I had made the right move.

I was driving a chevy.
