D-League

Very busy (fun) weekend. Saturday, work - golf - date night - sleep - golf - nap - family function - sleep - Monday
I'm golfed out for a while...
Had family over yesterday...everybody wants to hold the little granddaughter!
Didn't pay much attention to the football game. Figured they would win easily, and if they didn't I'm not sure I'd want to know about it.
Doin' the work thing... (I don't hate my job though)

Morning y'all. Go Cats. Laundry. Stuff. More laundry.

Listened alot to Al Green. Staple Singers. Percy Sledge. Wilson Pickett. JB. Saw Sam and Dave at Murray in late 60's. Otis R. So many others. FCC.

Some of the best ever. You left out The Temptations and a bunch of other great bands of the 60' and 70's. Four Tops the Supremes.......................... wow we were graced with the best..

Found this interesting and historical post card in grandpa's stuff. It is post marked March 27, 1908 and was sent to my grandfather from Tallahassee from one of his old girl friends. The card is a picture of The Home of The Tallahassee Girl which was the state college for women back then. This girl's school later became Florida State University and was changed to coed status (1947) . The girls college was in Tallahassee and the boys in Gainesville, University of Florida. It was all male then.

Another interesting thing about the card is the address. In those days you simply addressed the name of the person and the town they lived in. In this case grandpa lived in Clearwater but it was first sent to Largo, FL. A one cent stamp got it to the right person.

Thank God Monday is over

Had to put on a full court press today workload wise. Needed to get as much done as possible to avoid leaving too much on co-workers. Headed for DC area tomorrow morning to FT. Belvoir until Thursday then taking Friday off. Flight is O Dark Thirty in the morning. 5:04am out of Lawton to Dallas then a quick sprint to trams to catch connecting fight leaving 50 minutes later to Washington National.

Thanks, I really like the old stuff and I like to read how generations before us saw the world and how they lived. When my grandfather died the family started down sizing as many families do and started throwing out papers, documents, etc. A box of post cards was in the trash and my mother started going through it and decided she wanted to save them. She also found boxes of old letters grandma and grandpa had written over the years. Some reflected the hard times dirt farmers in the South experienced in those days.

On story involved a calf that was still sucking from the cow but the family also had two small children that needed milk. The calf was taking all of the milk. Grandpa was away packing fruit in Lake Wales and wrote with orders for the oldest son, Uncle Lee, to shoot the calf. The babies need milk. Uncle Lee was 9 years old. He didn't want to do it because he was attached to the calf. He refused and later regretted doing that when grandpa came home. Grandma brought in one of her brothers to shoot it and the babies had their milk.

Productive day. Went to Lowes and the sawmill. Got the interior walls done on the table along with both lower drawer fronts, including homemade handles. Two front doors to go and I'm done with everything except the top. That should go pretty fast except for having to rout out the area where my most awesome piece of stainless steel, that my good friend @Bert Higginbotha procured for me, will sit.

Thanks for bearing with me on this build. I know I've talked about it relentlessly.

Good morning all! I believe September has been our hottest month this year! SHEWEE! Hotter than fire. Already thinking about the Miss State game this week, If we win this one, It will be HUGE for our program.

Son and Daughter in law will be here tomorrow. Always good to see them. Feel awful for those poor people in the Carolinas, just awful. Hope everyone ailing starts feeling better. Carry on

That is what you are supposed to do. We like it. You have built a masterpiece.

I am with you on that. It was in the low 90's yesterday and the local weather folks said we set a record. September was a lot hotter than June, July or August in my mind. The forecast the rest of the month is for low 90's and plenty of rain. The humidity is the killer for most people.

Prayers to the Carolinas. Flooding is horrible and I think I would rather just everything burn up. Once something is water logged it is pretty much useless unless it is a cypress tree. And the smell. The smell will knock you down after a flood like this. God bless those folks.

  • Good Morning, D-League
  • 78 on the coast with a high of 91 expected. Same as about every day this month. The sun is bright but UV low and humidity is 93%. Like ACE said, this has been the hottest month of the year.
  • I echo what Don said about driving drunk. A bad choice in life brings a wound that time can not erase. All of the apologies in the world will not bring back the little 4 year old.
  • Thoughts go out to the Carolina D-Leaguers and their friends and neighbors. The clean up will be massive but you will make it.
  • I might head up to Kaintuck this weekend for my wife's family reunion. If I do I might use one of my football season tickets and take in Miss State. I will see when I get there because I am still on the mend
  • Let's make this a special day and as we make choices think about how others may be effected. Watch out for your brothers and sisters because there are people out there with a foggy mind.
  • Idmo is a good name for them.
  • Oh, one more thing. Last night I kept thinking about breakfast and how good a can of Spam would be with my eggs and grits. It sure was. That is a staple in life that was very popular when I was a boy. Not so much anymore I suppose.

  • Good Morning, D-Leagueanites and Lurkers.
  • 68º in Johns Creek. Blue sky. Beautiful day.
  • Don't drink and drive. That little 4 year old has died. Tragic.
  • Glad to see SCCat is back on line safe and sound.
  • Don't have any news.
  • Hope you sick ones are better.
  • Watch for the IDMOs. You know how they drive.
  • Carry on.
Don, what is IDMO?

I am anxious to hear Don's response.

We always called an idiot moron an IDMO. I don't know what they are on Johns Creek.
Down here it's not so much idiot morons as it is 90 year old people with dementia, can't see, can't hear etc.I sold my motorcycle as soon as we moved here. Last time i checked, Florida led the nation in bicycle fatalities and Lee county ( where we live ) was second in Florida

I enjoy all the old historical pictures. It was a different world.

Oh man you got that right. We do not have as many retirees around this area as SW Florida but they are here and some drive. My brother is a biker and rides his motorcycle all over NW Florida but he lives in Franklin County. Population about 11,000 with no snow birds. Franklin County does not encourage growth and is known as the Forgotten Coast. They like it like that.
