Coach Cal visiting Zion Williamson today

My faith remains behind the best recruiter in the biz today but I have to admit these recent Duke victories and our lull in nabbing a top 3 guy has me concerned. Cal is the master marketer and he's always had something waiting to steal the wind from the competition's sails in the past.

I'm going to take the high road and think on what cards he hasn't played yet. He's always had a big comeback, no need to doubt him now.

I am looking for a slap coming soon and administered by Cal. Not sure when, not sure how or who but I know one is coming to someone...

I'm pretty confident we get Quickley.

But after that, who knows?

Worst case, we are probably looking at Quickley, Johnson, and Shittu.

That would be a good haul.

Right now, I think recruits are listening to these other coaches telling them that if you are top 5 you can go anywhere and still be a top
pick. You don't have to go to UK. Duke isn't the only one, but they have the most to offer like preferential treatment and other privileges off the court. Capel is doing a great job selling this.

Cal is cleaning up with the top 10-15 guys who are fringe lottery picks and believe that Cal, based on his track record, can get them over the top and into the lottery.

That's why I figure he will grab those three, who are all in that top 10-15 range.

Now, the challenge is getting one of the top 5 (Barrett, Williamson, or Bol) on board.

We will be good without one of those, but with one of those guys, we have that superstar we need.

Love to get just one of those guys. Cal has to find a way to counter the negative recruiting against him.

Kansas is too loaded at the forward spot for 2019. Zion himself said in July he would have to look at each school to see whos there in his .position. He also said he might decide before the season starts. Not good for uk or ku for deciding early too many ?s for next team. I think he stays in state or duke

It was my biggest fear but Cal even admitted that the Platoon system worked against us when it was all said and done.

With that said Cal knows what the hell he is doing. Remember, some players are not suited for UK regardless of their talent. As in FRIDAY the movie " You win some, you lose some, but you live to fight another day". We will be the top 1 or 2 recruiting classes coming up and we can all look back at these posts and laugh...

UK will most likely lose Knox, and IMO, Washington and then one of Vandy or Gabriel from the wing. There will be minutes to be had.

Think uk has a better chance at recruits that wait till spring to decide. That way you know draft projections alot better than you know in November. Think uk has a lot of t.jones, lamb, briscoe type players that might need 2 years

Pretty sure it is not us Duke but will be shocked if he leaves SC

I've heard his stepfather is really pushing him hard to Clemson and they are a much bigger player than people think ,but I've also heard that his stepfather doesn't have that much influence on him .

lol this makes absolutely no sense. "Stepfather is pushing Clemson and Clemson is a bigger player than most think... except no bc his step father has no real influence on his decision"

@bucsrule8872

What's the time table for RJ and Zion? I have to imagine if the SF/Wing spot is cleared out, one of these guys would go to Kentucky. And if not those two, do things open back up with guys like Johnson and King?

It's kind of like Josh Jackson, He went to KU late in the game when Kentucky, Duke and others filled up. Why not play for Kansas when you can be the premier player with all the touches? Same goes for Kentucky. If we miss on some guys, I have to imagine you're going to get a few players chomping at the bit to play for a top5 program. I don't see how we lose on 2 or 3 SF's and the 4th guy misses on a great opportunity to play for Cal..

We'll get ours, just might be down the rankings a bit.

Rj said fall signing period in November. Zion hasn't committed to a time table but recently has said he also may decide before the season starts in November

It will be in the 2019 class. Duke was always in great shape for 18 and pushed hard to be in that position. They pulled some rabbits out of their hat for 17 (Duval, Bagley) so it looks like its a trend. In 19 uk will have a monster class because they targeted 19 like Duke targeted 18.

I am talking a LOT sooner than that...

If that's when you started worrying about our recruiting then you are young or you weren't paying attention during the tubby years .

I'm not going to turn this into a Tubby debate, but at least he had some decent classes and a few top 10 recruits.

Billy had kids that ended up at Asbury and quit basketball because they weren't good enough. Compared to that, Sherray Thomas and Shagari look pretty good.

Not downing UK players but Thomas and Shag never looked good as UK players. It's past history and this is one time I probably should not have commented but UK has several past players who should have never been. Who knows, playing in a different environment may have helped them at the time. Kentucky isn't for everyone...

Don't disagree. But when you are given 2 options and you can only take those 2 because that's what we had/would have had... I'd take a tandem of Thomas and Shagari vs Euton and GJ Villarino.

EDIT: and to add Tubby had me worried but about the time I grew really concerned he left. I thought we were going to be stuck with Billy for another year or 2.

Sounds like each could be feeling the other out. If RJ were to pick Duke, that opens up Zion's options quite a bit.. I imagine all three of these guys, being offensive-minded players, want the offense to run through them.

I feel pretty confident we get Barrett. I don't feel confident in Williamson. Kansas or staying home worries me there. In the end I think we get Barrett, Quickley, Shittu and look to fill other spots as we see who declares for draft

Possible but its looking like Zion will be their best shot at that. A zion, bol get could make waves. Possibly a reclass. Duke will reclass Bacot to 18 but there are others

Have you bothered to tell anyone where your insights come from? You are posting like you have an awful lot of info out of nowhere. Care to share something more than previous comments that would give some credit as to why anyone would believe a new poster with so few posts and history. Just curious

Also, you speak as if UK has zero chance with RJ and that would be the exact opposite of what I've have heard from multiple people and @CoachX11 seemed to hear something similar

It's not my opinion, was just told from multiple people that the timing was of significance and that it was unlikely for Barrett and Reddish to attend the same school

Interesting. I'll take it. Do you mind sharing who? You got this inside information from? I've never seen anything really saying they won't play together... same when someone else said shittu and Zion "don't like each other and won't play together " I asked for a source or even ... anything verifying and they started hurling insults instead lol
