CI Wrestling Thread #56

Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas. Thought Dynamite was another very good show.

If you aren't following the WWE Vault Channel on Youtube they've been putting up some classic ECW matches and programs this week. Saturday night they are airing the never before seen WWECW show 2006 from the old ECW Arena.
The lineup includes:

Rob Van Dam vs. Kurt Angle with Dean Malenko as the special referee.
Sabu vs. CW Anderson.
Big Show vs. Tommy Dreamer.
Paul Heyman addresses the fans.
CM Punk vs. Stevie Richards.
Balls Mahoney vs. Mike Knox.
The FBI vs. Danny Doring & Roadkill.
Sandman vs. Justin Credible.
Francine, Kelly Kelly and Trinity in an Extreme Bikini Contest.

NXT - 723,000
Dynamite - 574,000

This makes me happy because I remember what NXT used to be and what it turned into under Vince. And Triple H convincing his buddy to take a job he used to have to improve the once great developmental show. Michaels not only improved it but throughout the fall his show has embarrassed AEW. You'd think this would light a fire under AEW's ass but we know it won't.

In WWE, Ricochet was apparently mistreated creatively, given the Speed title which AEW fans mocked, and his abilities were held down.

In AEW, he's a little brother type dork, gets roasted on twitter, has a mic put in front of him (like Mone) which is his weakness (like Mone), and has gotten rolls of tp thrown at him multiple times. He's also developed a fake AHA laugh as a gimmick, much like Okada saying 'bitch.'

Making a talented guy look like a geek is Vince level booking but in AEW, it's seen as a positive. I get it - WWE good/bad, AEW good/bad. Rick was a hero here and a villain at Louisville. There's always spin but it's funny how you'll get bad McMahon booking in AEW yet those fans eat it up. Ricochet on Raw = bad. Ricochet getting pelted with toilet paper = good.

I guess if fans are responding, that's a positive I suppose but if Ricochet was being covered in toilet paper and doing a fake laugh gimmick in the E, AEW fans would be having online conniption fits over his misuse.

Oh, and the Toni Storm storyline is stupid. If you don't know, she returned as rocker Toni and is now considered a rookie. She believes she's never wrestled in AEW before. It's why she "debuted" on Rampage and is wrestling on preshows. Reminds me when I used to play WWE games and career mode would start you out on house shows and Sunday Night Heat. So it's creative but really dumb. The viewer, company (including Tony), announcers, and fans there have to now pretend this version of Toni Storm is a new wrestler who's never been in AEW. Would fans not say WTF if Vince had come up with this for, I dunno, Liv Morgan?

That's all I got tonight.

Ya the AEW fans are calling this “creative genius” and “character reinvention” instead of the obvious which is putting ice on what was a great feud with Mariah and Toni. Meanwhile Mariah has basically held the belt treading water and losing any heel heat she built up.
