CI Wrestling Thread #56

MJF lost his aura when he began hopping around the ring like a comedy act and then went into his history as a high school student bullied for being Jewish. He mentioned high school again as a heel to paint himself as a cool prick. He's in his 20s so that life wasn't too long ago but this is pro wrestling. An audience of 30 and 40 somethings doesn't want to listen to an adult talk about their high school days. I was disappointed when he re-signed but it is what it is. He can still debut at the Rumble or something when he's around 30 and that aura will immediately return. Later Vince-led WWE should leave everyone frustrated but so should Tony Khan-led AEW. Lotta missed opportunities that WWE can hopefully capitalize on in due time.

AEW is a lot more enjoyable once you realise they’re not a serious wrestling company.

I’ve recently stopped taking AEW seriously and the shows & PPV’s are a lot more enjoyable, you need to watch them like you watch movies and just switch your brain off for a few hours to get a more enjoyable experience.

Most fans know you don’t exactly require a brain to follow along with AEW, so if you want to tune in one week, you’ll have a blast. They don’t do long-term story telling which is great for casual viewers who want to check it out. They can tune in and catch some 5 star banger matches and have fun and then forget about it the next day.

Hell, Edge said it himself in an interview last year, “we don’t take ourselves too seriously here, we’re here to have fun.” Because that’s what AEW is, and there’s nothing wrong with it. It’s about having fun.

It’s like going to the circus, you go there for a few laughs and have a good time watching people goof around.

Once you stop taking AEW seriously, your experience will become a whole lot better.
I can see why you have to turn you brain off to watch anything longer than five minutes, your head would probably explode from having to use your brain.

Maybe you should consider a form of entertainment more befitting your mental capacity. Have you considered children’s picture books?

Hammerstein looked good for ROH last night and the sold out crowd was pretty lively.

The move to smaller venues has been a very nice change thus far and something they should have done earlier but we all knew that. Helps that the crowds have actually acted like they were excited to be there instead of acting like Rupp Arena blue hairs.

Entrance stage was pretty scaled back compared to the weekly AEW/ROH product. I assume it was due to lack of space because they scale up the entrance for ROH PPVs. Not sure if it will be any different for AEW tonight and tomorrow, my guess is only minor alterations if any.

Have you noticed you’re the only one that attempts personal insults on a pro wrestling board?

So this is the second time I’ve seen it this week - even though the guy kicks out why does the aew ref’s hand still hit the mat for the 3 count.
Isn’t part of the ref not hitting their hand on the mat for the 3rd time indicating the guy kicking out?

The shows at the Hammerstein look great, no wonder WWE was trying to get in there first.

From most of the things I've seen the ROH show was very good last night.
However I don't understand after building it up for two years why Billie Starkz didn't beat Athena. It's like TNA not putting the title on Joe Hendry when he was red hot.

I also would have had Cardona beat Jericho too.

Yup TK is clueless sometimes - they basically wasted 2 years on that women’s feud with no payoff.

I thought TK gave up on the roh tv deal but not sure who would bite on it now - it’s a smaller base than even AEW.

It's likely Jericho is being used to push through a tv deal for ROH. Plus while everyone loves Cardona, I don't see him getting that type of push unless he's actually signed to AEW.

I really like the clips Stevie Richards is putting out. There's one from today of him explaining the KO piledrivers to Orton and Cody and another from several days ago discussing the Bronson Reed botch/injury from War Games. I want him to try and explain Darby's Coffin Drop to the edge of the ring next. Darby's past explanation that if he ends up crippled, he's okay with that doesn't fly with me. I'm not watching to see some grungy emo stuntman break his body on live tv.

I just looked at tickets for Royal Rumble and shit, I guess my days of getting to go to a premier WWE show are over unless you wanna pay $325 each for a nosebleed seat.

Royal Rumble was a show I always wanted to go to but not paying these prices. If you wanted to just get in the building at the very top, it’s still $300 for two tickets.

Same. Was gonna go with a friend. I even have a room booked right next to Lucas Oil that I booked before it was officially announced. But he had to back out and the what im willing to spend puts me all the way at the top. So barring someone throwing free tickets my way I’m out :(

Yea I paid $410 for sec 145 day it went on sale. Only reason I did it early was I found a friend willing to spend that. Not for the faint of heart.

I really do identify with Seth and his despising of that CM Punk kitschy-arse "sleep" mime with the "We the Ones" index finger up of the Samoan Syndicate. Very fay.

Drew carried that RAW - if it wasn’t for him that would have basically been an entirely unwatchable episode.

I know they are mailing it in until Netflix but still.

I don't know how they are going to set it up but the Brady Center is a really cool place to see a concert. They have the stage and then a floor that stands maybe 2,000 and then 2 balconies behind that hold about the same. I guess they will put the ring on the floor and have the wrestlers come in from the stage.

Yep, Raw was a snoozer but in a couple weeks they'll start cranking shit up. I'm still tempering my expectations for the first Raw on Netflix though. If anything, it'll be a solid PLE type show but the online and WWE-led buildup seems a bit too high.

AEW should run a few shows at Hammerstein every Dec. going forward. At least it's something different. It also seems that Shockwave is just an idea right now and not a sure thing. It was never going to be on Fox, with overall ratings collapsing especially but it may just be Dynamite and Collision for awhile going forward. That's a positive.
