CI Wrestling Thread #56

Saw a picture of AEW setting up Arthur Ashe, the visual of that place being packed for wrestling should be pretty cool.

I’m excited for Omega/Danielson. If Cody beats Black tomorrow, I hope the fans boo his ass out of the building.

Time for Black to Black mass Cody and move on to Miro. God’s favorite champion vs the devil’s favorite deviant.

Here is the latest on the show for tomorrow night. They opened some limited view sections today, may or may not end up selling those.

Pwinsider reporting one of the episodes for the new season of "Young Rock" will be on his time in Memphis.

Even after all these years, I am amazed at how many people believe Meltzer as the gospel and how many dirtsheets simply exist to rip off other people’s interviews and simply repeat whatever rumor Meltzer creates.

I wonder what kind of freedom the AEW folks have on social media for stuff like that Callis tweet, for example.

Was reading earlier this morning, and saw an opinion that really made sense to me:

AEW has been successful because the company is a babyface. It does things the fans want, books matches the fans want, and unlike WWE doesn't have a heel GM, or on camera people in power that are actively displaying bias, and trying to punish or hold down talent (whether actual or perceived).

When TK was doing those Impact commercials during Impact broadcasts and was low-key insulting Impact, we all thought it was funny and cute, but it was still very out of place, he really hasn't done anything like that before or since.

This does make a lot of sense. Especially given that Vince was one of the (if not the biggest) heels on camera in recent memory for a lot of us.

We complain about Meltzer but Bryan Alvarez is probably the smelliest turd in the dirt sheet business. On F4W's Youtube page, he's posted his Raw reviews for the past two weeks and accuses WWE of "hotshotting" matches. Meanwhile, AEW gives away Omega and Danielson for free and according to Alvarez, "AEW is just giving the fans what they want." This guy is a clown.

For your viewing pleasure...

To me guys like cornette are the faces and omega is the heel - they are undoing or copying everything from the past and completely ruined kayfabe

Love or hate AEW, did anyone really think they’d be putting together a show with close to 20k fans? I know I didn’t expect it. I don’t think we’ll ever see another wrestling boom, but tonight does feel big.

I'm going to watch tonight. It'll be the first time I turned on Dynamite in over a year. I want to see Omega / Danielson.

But I think it's dumb as can be to give it away for free.
AEW is leaning in to that needle as hard as they can to leverage their momentum right now to grow the company. Big stage, but non-title match, the real money match is being saved for PPV. So I get that.

Long term: Who wins at Full Gear, BD or Omega? Or do others enter into the title picture before the PPV, like Hangman and/or Punk?

Aew is the heel and anyone who thinks they are a face is the heel too
AEW is just the latest, ideal for hipsters and anyone enamored with novelty. It’s similar to the smug independent record store clerk who shits on “mainstream music.”

AEW is cool. It’s really not much different than how ECW and NJPW were perceived by those simply bored with the WWE.

But I’m all for fans liking multiple products and those products producing quality. Everyone wins.
