CI Wrestling Thread #56

I love Gargano, but....

AEW has too many guys to bring him in.

Maybe NWA?
Ring of Honor?? I do think you are right. AEW has too many of his type of wrestler, they can be choosy at this point about who they sign. Outside of Wyatt and maybe 2-3 more in the women's division, what does AEW really need? or even consider going forward?

So we are getting the Lashley-Orton match that was supposed to happen at Extreme Rules plus Big E says he's cashing in tonight.
Can't tell it's the first Monday Night Football game of the season can you?
Actually Dave and Bryan both said the changes were due to dynamite beating raw in the 18-49. That has to be it. They’ve known football was starting for weeks. But all the changes were made after the dynamite ratings came out.

I feel for Gargano. Fit wise he is perfect for AEW. But timing is about as bad as could be. Had his deal been up this time last year I think TK goes after him for sure.

The only way I’d go after him if I’m Tony is if I don’t plan on resigning a bunch of originals when their deals expire, like Angelico/Evans/Kiss.

I take it that Lashley is going to Smackdown? Big E finally getting his much deserved push but weird timing to take the title off Lashley. He has been booked right for the first time in his career.
I don’t know I’ve seen where people think this is just temporary. That Goldberg will beat big E for the title and then Lashley will face Goldberg and get his belt back. I’m assuming that happens in Saudi. That would be dumb if true but it fits what Vince would do.

Big E has more than earned a title run. Unless he’s just horrible I’d keep it on him til the Rumble or WM atleast.

I don't understand Vince's hard on over Goldberg. He sucked in 1997 and sucks 24 years later. He doesn't deserve any sort of run with the belt, especially if he's just a part timer. That's also how I feel about Brock. He doesn't need to hijack the title unless he's there each week. I think E has paid his dues for sure deserves an opportunity but I honestly don't see him as a guy to carry the company unless they totally revamp his character and get him away from the New Day gimmick. Like Kofi, he's good but that's not a world champion. It'll be interesting how they play this out. I was kind of hoping it was going to be Drew's way back into the title.

According to the Pwinsider Folks Kevin Dunn is running the NXT show tonight and the script has changed numerous times, much like Raw every week.
The Capital Wrestling Center is no more, it will simply be referred to as the home of NXT and the show NXT 2.0

Kevin Dunn is living proof as to why longevity and tenure shouldn’t matter in the rasslin business. This chipmunk looking piece of shit has been in WWF for going on 37 years and has not the first MF clue about the business. I’d honestly be surprised if he knew what a fisherman’s suplex or abdominal stretch is. I’ve never heard the first good thing about the guy.

They cut off Suzuki’s entrance and music last week. Probably because they were running short on time.
I think it’s hilarious they turned it into an angle.

So Bron Breaker is Rick Steiner’s kid.
He was supposed to be Rex Steiner but got the wonderful WWE name change.

Wayne Bloom’s kid Cal got a name change too. Von Wagner. Thrown right into the 4 way title match. Looks the part, now let’s see if he can go?

Bron Breakker has Vince written all over it. Rex Steiner was a perfect name. Keeps the lineage and looks the part. Robbie Rechsteiner became Rick so Bronson was fitting to become Rex Steiner.

Oh dear god. How pathetic. A second generation guy, fans could’ve been drawn to him…nope, let’s give him a stupid name.

I don't think Vince will EVER let a wrestler use his real name again from here on out if it can absolutely, possibly in any way be helped.

I think WWE and Vince see part of their "failing" is allowing wrestlers to have control of their names, like having their birth name, or their self-developed-and-controlled indy name (CM Punk), or a very similar-sounding name in WWE (Daniel Bryan/Bryan Danielson), such that wrestlers can jump between feds without losing name recognition or any confusion as to who they are. They don't have to be re-built into a new character, and that instant mobility of character gives those wrestlers an advantage in negotiating contracts....which WWE will forever and always want to strip from them.

I get both sides. As a fan, I’ll always side with talent over a company. But I totally get not letting their intellectual propriety just walk out and enrich someone else.

If they take an established property before they get to WWE and then change it, that’s just dumb. But I guess that’s why they’re going to that wcw power plant type crap where they just groom everyone from the ground up as WWE.

A lot of the wrestlers in AEW came from the indies and kept their indy names. Very few that appear on Dynamite or Rampage have a name developed by AEW. So TK is bucking that industry standard. Will giving the wrestlers more leverage result in TK "creating monsters" who defect to WWE for $$$ down the road, or will the goodwill of giving them that leverage result in their trust and loyalty?

...and does it even matter if WWE brings in a well-established wrestler with a well-established name from AEW...and still insists on changing his/her name so they can copyright it?

Does all this copyrighting even matter in today's environment? Everyone knows Miro/Rusev, Asuka/Kana, Seth Rollins/Tyler Black....etc... The ones that have the same name regardless of promotion are typically huge already AJ Styles, CM Punk, Sting... I may be wrong, but copyrighting names just seems an outdated business model that doesn't account for the Internets influence on the business.

Apologies for slacking, I know you've missed my posts about ratings.

Rampage did 670,000 viewers on Friday night, as you can see it started well then went down as the hour went.

Raw did 1,670,000 viewers on Monday and a .43 in the 18-49 so Dynamite definitely could beat them again.

Smackdown did 2.383 million viewers and a .65 in the 18-49

Looking forward to the show tonight, should be AEW's third biggest crowd ever.

I think the Rex Steiner name change is the worst. He looks like his dad, he wrestles like his dad, he’s dressed like his dad, but he doesn’t have the same last name as his dad? I’m not sure who if anyone owns the Steiner name but it’s not their real name, they’re actual name is Rechsteiner.

On top of that it’s probably bad news for Braun because they’re not going to allow two guys with the same name.

Bray Wyatt's appearance in AEW may be earlier than expected, and it will be at the "Dynamite" show at the dawn of September 30 in the hometown of the late Brody Lee "Rochester, New York"

I was going to get my son and his friends some tickets to raw…holy crap. The cheapest are $80!!

I wouldn’t even go for free, but crap…
I think what you may be seeing is people that got them through some kind of presale because according to WDRB, tickets don't go on sale until Friday at 10. Tickets as low as $20.

Oh good. I’ll fudge that for them. I guess that’s what they saw

That's a really good number for NXT. I think a lot of people were curious about the new NXT, plus weddings are always big draws. We'll see what happens next week.

I'll have to go back and look but I'm pretty sure Steiner's kid's boots said Steiner on them.

Dark Side Of The Ring starts back tomorrow with "The Plane Ride From Hell." While the subject matter isn't the best the shows are always done well.

Damn, AEW not giving a shit with how much they gotta pay in fines for their language. I love it!

I just saw two wrestlers brawling through a crowd of random fans, no masks, throwing half drunk cups of draft beer all over each other (and surrounding bystanders). Kinda concerning?

I looked at Raw tickets with the presale code and it looks like they don’t even sell tickets on the hard cam side anymore unless they open up those tickets when they officially go on sale.
