CI Wrestling Thread #56

Having the crowd cheer a guy who beat up a 15 year old seems like a mistake in storyline.
I don’t know but Lashley just bores me. Love MVP on the mic but I’d take about anyone as champ over Lashley. Maybe Big E will cash in on him. Just anyone else.

Maybe it’s a sign they’re not so worried about being totally PC which may be a good thing. Wrestling has been stale outside a few cool gimmicks for nearly 20 years.

They had good pops its hard to tell from TV and from phone cameras. When I went to wrestlemania this year it was so loud and then when I rewatched it and watched what I recorded it never sounds right. With that being said Punk had what might be the greatest pop of all time.
I'll go to my grave saying the pop for Flair's return in 1998 was the greatest of all time.

But, to be fair, there's no video evidence of it making someone cry.

There are many great pops in the history of wrestling it would be dumb for us to even try to pin point one as the greatest I guess lol. Cena returning at Royal Rumble got a pretty big pop.

Hot take: 50000 excited people yelling is louder than 15000 excited people yelling.
I'll agree with the understanding that the venue's acoustics makes a difference. Cramped spaces with low ceilings are louder.

Thats why 20,000 at Rupp are quieter than 16,000 at other places (allowing for 3,000 being quiet).

The story of Brock-Heyman-Reigns will/should/damned well better be compelling.

I thought rupp was quiet because it doesn’t sell out anymore, people are bored with cal, and it’s just old people in the lower bowl

SummerSlam was pretty cool. RKBro is so over. Riddle is a guy who should be in the main event scene after this.

Reigns vs Cena was good. Pretty cool spots. Was surprised to see a clean win.

Becky squashing Bianca was...interesting booking. Probably a tough spot to book. You basically have Becky get a quick “catch her off guard” win and not risk her looking weak in her first match since spring 2020. But at the same time, why squash someone you started building as a star in January to now? Personally, I don’t see the appeal of either but the crowd likes them.

Goldberg is terrible and has been terrible for 21 years.

I’m also surprised they brought Brock back for a possible feud during the downtime for WWE.

L literally watch almost no wrestling except to get ideas on a clip or watching Austin idol on nwa, but I’ll check out the Brock/Roman/Heyman stuff. If they let Heyman have control, it could be great

So this seems like the end of the road for NXT from what Nick Khan just said in his interview. Really disappointed in that man. WWE is such a shitty run company right now they can’t seem to get anything right. Vince forced Paul to compete with AEW in an impossible situation and is now taking something he grew from essentially the ground up from him.

Here’s a thread from the interview…

So whose idea was that? Because that was definitely not Vince’s idea as we’ve had NXT for a decade. Its been successful. So is this Kahn’s doing?

I definitely think their roster was way too big, a huge issue I had when WWE initially got WCW and ECW’s rosters.

Still got a couple months before survivor series unless they prolong it through WM

Vince apparently was angry that NXT lost the ratings thing to AEW. It’s stupid because they weren’t ever going to win that. NXT is very niche.

Yup I think it was pretty close but then when aew was bringing in their A game nxt couldn’t compete which isn’t fair because organically it’s a development brand - Segway to this - riddle and priest are and can be main event guys that were in nxt - not sure about pass the torch type but can certainly carry a feud

Most reporters have said it’s a Vince call due to nxt failing to beat or slow down AEW. Wanting “no midgets” or anyone starting in their 30’s sounds just like Vince.

I definitely liked the Saturday for Summer Slam instead of Sunday. The historic Rousey/Flair/Lynch 3 way that main evented Wrestlemania happened on a Monday morning. People work. I didn't like that they buried Bianca but I'm not sure you could put Becky right back into a 20 minute match when she wasn't expected back for a while anyway. I think Bianca will be OK. Hopefully Goldberg's contract is up and we never see him again. It will be interesting to see what McIntyre does next. I'm not sure what's out there for him. Same with Lashley. If you haven't seen the Broken Skull session with him you should. It made me like him a lot more. Flair is the best they've got but how can I miss her when she won't go away.

Just saw this on Britt Bakers “bay bay” Twitter post. AEW loves throwing out bread crumbs and subtle clues on things and who knows if this is one or not but it seems kinda random if not. Check the bottom of Punks shoe.
