CI Wrestling Thread #56

Nice to see Shawn Michaels, in addition to the great work he has done as an agent on NXT, was the eye model for WWE 2K20.

Man, AEW is killing it with consistently good tag matches. SCU vs. Best Friends was a perfect vehicle for getting Scorpio Sky over and it succeeded imo. I like Kaz and I really like Daniels, but Scorpio Sky needs to be a singles guy. He's got it.

Keith Lee vs. Dijakovic was awesome. Less reliant on the high spots, great strong man stuff from Lee and selling from Dijakovic. I get the non-finish, but I wish they had decided a clear winner because I would rather see Roddy vs. either one of them than Roddy in a triple threat with both of them.

Lucha Bros probably should have squashed Jurassic Express without Luchasaurus. Felt like the match they would have had if Luchasaurus had been there, and it isn't the same when he's replaced by a guy who's shorter than me sitting down.

Lucha Bros vs. Private Party though...:eyes: That's must see wrestling.

I would usually agree with you as far as squashing Marko Stunt, but I’ll tell ya man. He needed that performance. I haven’t been on that wagon, but he did a great job. I like when a promotion can get ANYONE over. AEW is doing just that. Let us not forget they had a double amputee in their casino royale.

The thing Dynamite did that impressed me the most tonight was the way they handled Moxley and Omega. I was worried that they were shooting their wad too early by having them wrestle in a long tag match, but then both guys brought out the barbed wire and did the staredown, and that's clearly the direction that match is going. So they gave the crowd some of what they wanted with Moxley and Omega wrestling, but not everything they wanted, which was blood.

Sometimes I think the guys who were clear favorites in matches (Lucha Bros, Jericho) gave their opponents just a little too much offense. That's why I loved the segment with Santana and Ortiz. Quick squash followed by a Jericho promo on their behalf and they're an instant credible threat to the Young Bucks.

Pretty disappointed that Pete Dunne had to lose to Damian Priest. I get putting Priest over because he's new, and the match was really good, but Dunne should lose maybe once every year and a half.

Is Mauro coming up with these horrendous nicknames on his own or is Vince feeding them to him through the headset? I can believe either. Damian Priest is a cool name and he's a cool character. You know what isn't cool? The Archer of Anarchy.

I don’t know who the skinny guy that wrestled Jericho was but he’ll be fun to watch until he takes an unfortunate bump and ends his career early.

I’m loving some of the old school wrestling simplicity that works and has been missing for a while. Something as simple as the middle fingers, quick DDT and walk off make for good wrestling shows.

I can’t take Hager serious with that polo shirt and parted hair.
He's a sweater vest away from being Greg Marmalard.

Dude needs to just have a match. He can go back to being a badass as long as he isn't wearing his Casual Friday attire.

Surprised at the lack of Cody on the live show, but I don't hate it. During the golden era, you'd see Hogan wrestle on syndicated TV maybe once a month. You don't have to see all the wrestlers all the time. But Hangman will never take a show off.

I thank Hager or whatever will have a match against Hangman at Full Gear. What’s the card so far?
Jericho/Rhodes
Mox/Omega
Bucks/Ortiz and Santana

Cody has felt like a main carder to me this whole time. I never watched him in WWE, but thought he was just average in NJPW. Ever since the first PPV, he’s had great matches. Even in All In. But his match with his brother was the best of Double or Nothing and I think his match with Spears was good as well. He’s not doing crazy spots like his counterparts, but he tells a good story in the ring with his style.

Someone post a pic of fat Jericho. I’ve seen enough posts now that I have to see this but don’t feel like looking for it.

The lack of Cody is exactly what WWE failed to see. They are so caught up on ratings that if it wasn’t Brock refusing to show up they wanted everyone on every show because they couldn’t have a miss without booking totally crapping their pants trying to figure it all out.

So it’s nice.

The roster is still small though and they need more and quick. I think they have enough to carry the shows, but a few will need to be every other week talkers with a break from actual wrestling.

Maybe I’m in the minority, because you guys have some what talked down on Omega, but I like the guy. Actually really like Page too. But for all the talk of Meltzer overrating everything Omega I expected a watered down worker, and I’ve been surprised.

I think AEW missed the boat by not having tournaments for every belt to introduce us to their guys, and create storylines right out of the gate.

I don't mind the tag team deal - beats the WWE approach of having guys wrestle 98 singles matches to set up their singles match at a PPV and then continuing that "feud" with a singles match the next night on Raw.

I agree totally. It's really hard to get excited about a PPV match you have watched on RAW or Smackdown 10 times leading into the PPV. They suck at doing other things to stir a rivalry up as a lead in to the actual match.

What would be really nice is if Private Party scored another upset victory over Lucha Bros, preferably with SCU waiting to give their receipt until that match, so that you could have Young Bucks/LAX, Lucha Bros/SCU and then the finals of the Tag Title Tournament, all with good, sensible booking.

Here's fat Jericho.

Last night was the first time I’ve seen that Marko Stunt guy, I sincerely hope it’s the last time.

First AEW show that I, overall, didn’t enjoy as much but they did a good job of moving a long with some stories and fueds. Moxley/Omega should be a fun match when it happens.

Since I'm learning these guys...

I'll be damned - Luke Perry's son is a wrestler? I mean he looks like he should be in a late 80's speed metal band instead, but...

I LOVE the Lucha Bros. Their look, their skillset. I know they speak English - are they good on the mic?

Scorpio Sky - love him too. I like Kazarian and Daniel's (familiar with them already).

Britt Baker - ok. I need to see more. I feel no titles are swapping yet - too soon.

I haven't watched Darby Allin yet. Will get there sometime soon. I may have seen him on MLW.

I'd rather see MJF every week than Page.

On WHW Tony compared Page to Barry Windham. I think he meant Kendall.

I enjoy watching Darby Allin do wrestling matches. He's a tiny man and has that prime Jack Evans flexibility, which means he can take some killer bumps. Jack Evans still has that prime Jack Evans flexibility fwiw. We need to see more of him and Angelico on the TV show.

I cannot take Darby Allin seriously as a character as long he keeps that face paint, ever since one of you guys compared him to the "I like turtles" kid.

Britt Baker is Adam Cole's wife. DID YOU KNOW SHE IS DENTIST

I am kind of meh on Allin, but he may not be for me. Which is fine. Private Party, on the other hand, is my jam. I'm usually not into the flippedy-doo stuff, but those guys are crazy.

I do like the fact that AEW doesn't trot out all of the same people every week. So when MJF or whoever finally pops back up, it will be a treat.

Ratings come out yet?

agree with krazy they need some talent depth with these weekly shows or same guys gonna come out week after week

I think it’s good Omega took some time off bc I felt like he had to live up to this 6 star stigma and only 45-60 minute matches would continue him living up to his billing - now he can go back to what he did before the Okada series

Adam Page is Adam Page but every company has their workhorses

Speaking of ratings guess Bischoff got fired because of the SD ratings dip.

Also NXT is trying to launch in Japan - in order to jumpstart they offered to buy a promotion supposedly NOAH was one.

I mean he ain’t *that* fat. Can still see the outline of his abs and stuff.

Jericho doesn’t need to be lean or the fittest guy in the room anymore. Dude is the best on the mic and sells a match with his story telling. I mean he acted like he barely escaped Allin after tying the cat up. That is selling for your opponent and is the best way to put a guy over.

So what do you think? Is this Hall of Fame job guy's real name Ken Raper, or did some promoter pull off a world class rib?

Either way, I have questions.

How many different guys is Corey Graves gonna refer to as a “lethal striker?”

When he called Shane one of the most lethal strikers in the industry it lost a lot of cache.
