I’m sort of shocked to see those numberslast year the championship game vs 20 years ago the viewership is basically the same. 18.1M vs 18.5M
This year was 14.6M. So no, not way less. CBB is doing just fine.

College basketball is more popular than ever. Calling it a dying sport is hilarious.
Looking more and more like a football school. 😉
Exactly ... we need an in-depth investigation to determine whatever could it possibly be ... yes, indeed. A big mystery ... not.Kansas and Duke don't seem to have a problem. Hmm, maybe it is something particular now with Kentucky.....what?
... and Kovach has gone on to a very successful career beyond his doctoral studies in medicine to law and then business. Kovach is an example of what college athletics is all about and should be heralded for his success and affiliation with UK. I couldn't agree more with your post. An interesting side note is that Kovach was the linebacker who tackled Walter Payton on the play that Payton broke Jim Brown's rushing record.Yes, the NIL and the transfer rules killed college sports. There is not even the illusion anymore that these are legitimate college students. You cannot be serious about getting a degree when you transfer 3-4 times during your college career. UK had a middle linebacker in the mid-70s (Jim Kovach) that was a pre-med student, iirc.
You have several valid points that seem to really concern you. On the other hand, my point is pointed more towards the product on the floor and the level the game is currently being played at. Thus, the enjoyment that I get out of watching these great players that work extremely hard at their craft and the crazy things that they can do on the basketball court. A game that I was a pretty good player at when I was young. But, I can only dream of playing like these players of today. People have been complaining about officials since the beginning of sports so why think it is any worst now. If anything, it is much better with the use of replay. You can go back as far as the beginning of sport to find cheating. Posters on this board constantly bring up Wooden cheating in the 60s, Zion's house, and my favorite UNCheat. The difference is I more making FUN of them than being so serious about it. Again, there has been cheating going on since back in the good ol' days of sport. They use to call them "Bringing in a Ringer" . College basketball is just fine. College kids will keep filling small gyms at small schools and the big boys will still bring in large crowds to cheer for their teams. If you think basketball in general is going to get less popular as a sport< I don't know what to tell you. I think you sound more like the old man than me.@shockey4064
Fwiw, I'm not an old man and I am the OP. If you cannot see that CBB is a mess I don't know what to tell you.
1. CBB still has a waiver process which can be taken advantage of and was happening pre-covid for transfers. There are guys who are playing at 4 different schools in 4 years.
2. It is a bidding war for NIL which is absolute insanity. That is why there are collective bargaining agreements and salary caps in professional sports.
3. Officiating is a disgrace in CBB.
4. There is no control whatsoever. In a sport that used to be monitored and (some) teams punished for the past 10-15 years the NCAA has turned a blind eye to anything and everything.
I won't debate about the NBA. I don't watch it that often. I can tell you MLS pulls larger crowds than the NBA (I know arenas are slightly larger)....that should tell you all you need to know about the sport- in America.
Facts are facts regarding ratings. I think we were both correct to an extent.
Pushing back on what idea?Sad but true. And there is no turning back now. Anybody pushing back on the idea just hasn’t thought through all of the consequences and ramifications.
Pushing back on what idea?
Sorry, yes you are correct. We have people here who have zero conscience, they want their basketball and wins, ethics be damned.CBB is a dying sport
You're right---But don't you enjoy watching these great players do what you wish you could do. By the way. the extremely ethical PGA (LOL) just showed you what moral and ethics are worth. I may watch the $hitty sport of golf even less than before now. But I don't like golf. I love basketball so I will continue to watch. That is the bottom line.Sorry, yes you are correct. We have people here who have zero conscience, they want their basketball and wins, ethics be damned.
