CATS or NBA. Who are you for ?

Never watched the NBA before Cal, no need to change. Not into that brand of basketball, I am glad we have some guys that were former CATS making a good living playing in the pro's. My basketball fandom ends at the college level.

I agree. I can't understand the basketball fan who hates the NBA and only likes college ball. It baffles me not to want to watch the best players in the world. I don't know if it's not understanding the game or not wanting to many interests or what. But to each their own I guess
I dont care for the NBA Because i just like UK, i dont care for the NBA because players become uncoachable, same for any sport because they make millions and yet whine, some even want use their platform for political non sense. I dont watch the NBA because Kentucky does not have a pro team so who would be my favorite team? Miami? Golden state? Clevland? Non of the NBA teams share anything in common with me i guess id just have to randomly pick a team and it would akward because id have no intrest with the team.

I do wish our former players well but watching them play in any other uniform than UK Just doest intrest me. Just my feelings on it.

I'm UK all the way and could care less about the NBA, I wish our former players well but the NBA is full of million dollar babies who get coaches fired and think they run the show. When I was growing up I watched the NBA and kept up with it, team pictures meant something just like baseball, now it changes every year and makes it hard to follow any team. The college game is the only game in town for me, where the players have to do what the coaches say and they play for the name on the front of their jersey. However everyone has their opinions on things and who they like and what they watch, to each his on.

When March rolls around, I cheer for whoever is wearing a Kentucky uniform. Once they no longer wear that uniform, I don't particularly care who they play for or if they are even playing. As for the nba, I'd rather watch a 7th grade b-team game.

The only reason I watch an NBA game, is if there is a UK player involved. If the 7th game of the NBA championship was on at the same time as UK vs a D2 school, I'm watching the UK game.

A lot of posters have complained recently because so many of our good/great players leave after one year.

We haven't won as many championships recently as Duke and UConn.

In 2010 we went 19-0 and were the best team in the country because we had one-and-done Wall and Cousins.

In 2011 we lost by two in the Final Four to the eventual national champs, but not without Brandon Knight.

Do you think we would have won the 2012 title without those one-and-dones (AD and MKG)?

In 2014 we lost in the title game. Would we have gotten there without J Randle?

In 2015 we went 38-0 before losing in the Final Four. Would that have happened without KAT?

I don't want to think about 2016 without our having Jamal Murray.

We beat UNC on a neutral court by 3 this year (best college game of the season). We lost by 2 with less than a second remaining in the Elite Eight and they won the championship. How would we have done without Fox, Monk, and Bam?

With these great players, we are the envy of almost all of college basketball.

I loved Issel, Casey, and Pratt but we never got to a Final Four.

For the most part, the Kittens (Grevey, Conner, Flynn, Guyette) underperformed. We added some great frosh (Givens, Robey, Phillips) and we got to the title game.

We couldn't win the title with Bowie, Turpin, and KWalker.

So...like many of you, I've experienced a lot of disappointment as a UK fan...

...BUT...

I have really enjoyed the run with Coach Cal.

It has been really exciting and we know we're in the hunt for the title every year.

Imagine being such a UK fan that you obsess over the decisions of teenagers, criticize their every move and tweet and tattoo and hairstyle, get angry because they wait so long to commit, and then stop caring about them the second they declare.

Doesn't seem right to expect these kids to "play for the name on the front" and "bleed Blue" and then toss them to the side once they don't play for your amusement for free anymore. Especially when such an overwhelming majority are very publicly maintaining their interest and love and support of the program after they leave.

I do understand the lack of an interest in the NBA for those who feel like they don't have a team, but there are so many UK guys in the league now, you can just pick your favorite and keep up with his team, at least casually.

It's really great basketball, and I think there's an unfair perception that somehow those guys don't care or try or play defense or get coached. It's odd that we're this "basketball obsessed" state that seems to brag about our knowledge and love of the game, but have so many that don't care about or understand the game at its highest level.

I know it's nice to say that NBA star went here for one year and we have plenty to cheer for but me personally I only watch the conference finals in the NBA. I cheer for the Blue and White Jersey that says Kentucky across the chest and whoever wears it. After they leave I really don't follow them because I have a whole new team to follow. My point is so many posts reflect that one team doesn't develope talent and others do.

Do we really want to say we have 50 players in the league and only one title. I'm all for kids reaching their dreams but players in the league v/s NCAA titles will never compare in my book. Just seems like so many posters are caught up in how many players we have in league. Maybe we should start an ex-players in the league forum so they can focus on that since they are all about who's going to NBA.
I do not follow baseball that closely.

Some people contribute nothing to this board. You manage to contribute less than nothing. You can't even troll effectively.
But the sheer dumbassery level is off the charts! There is some fleeting humor in his attempts, no?

Really, this whole thing is so very stupid, it doesn't pass the "can you say it with a straight face test?" Let's see: We've won more games that any team in the country, have a better NCAA tournament record than any team in the country, have more final fours than any team in the country, ESPN is a freaking UK infomercial, but we're not happy because we've "only" won one title. Good Lord, I can't even type it in jest without going through an involuntary eye-roll. heh.

What blows the "we are not successful enough" peoples minds is HOW can we have achieved ALL that and NOT be winning titles.

What blows the "we are not successful enough" peoples minds is HOW can we have achieved ALL that and NOT be winning titles.

It's simple, it's perception versus reality. A title is only won by the best team in the country about 33% of the time, by a top 5 team about 50% of the time, and even throwing in the entire top 10, only accounts for about 75% of title winners. There is a perception that the gap between these great players we have had, and the college players not good enough to play in the league is huge. The problem is, it's not. Having all those great players increases your chances of winning a title, mainly because the odds are in your favor. But the gap isn't so big that lesser talented players can't have a better single game than the more talented players.

I've seen people reference needing a guy like AD in order for Cal to win another won. There is some truth to that. With AD, his bad games are still better than anybody else in college. Remember the championship game?? AD wasn't very good by AD standards, but was still better than anything Kansas had to bring at him. The more talent you have, the bigger the margin for error. Just so happens that some of our better teams had bigger errors than they had margins. But Cal has had the best team in the country 3 years, and has one title, good for 33%. Guess what. That is right in line with THE HISTORICAL AVERAGE FOR THAT KIND OF THING. Which means, no, there aren't programs doing it better, just programs doing it different.

Agree 100%.. That said, the arguement is that the historical average for this kinda thing doesnt apply when you take into acount the talent we bring in. To stay within the law of average we need to bring the big hardware home soon or we get behind the 33% even with our talent. Then some of these tools will actually have a leg to stand on.

I'm UK first but NBA >>>>>>> college basketball.

March Madness is a stupid title. It's not madness. Madness is people killing each other with machetes, hand grenades and lasers.

Brackets are dumb. You can't win them, and its usually effed up after the first round.

Referee whistles? Don't get me started.

"One shining moment"? Queer as a ping pong bat

there are two basic things that go into evaluating how much a coach has to work with, in assessing the players he has. And they are obvious. Talent and experience. When it comes to analyzing Cal, people nearly always mention the first, but very often leave out the second. It's like it doesn't matter, like there's no difference between a freshman and a senior. I know quite a few people believe that based on the standard comparison to Dean Smith that I see tossed around here. It took Dean Smith 22 years to win a title, and he had some of the best college basketball players ever, and they all played at least 3 years and the vast majority of them played 4. And yet Cal is somehow comparable.

That's why I don't really think many of these guys are really UK fans, they are just trolls trotting out the only argument they can come up with. I refuse to believe they are UK fans, because if they are, then some of us really are as dumb as what the UofL fans say. heh.......

Maybe we should start a league for entitled, self-important, spoiled, ungrateful, whiny little bitches. Or maybe you and your crew could save us the trouble and root for the whore house down by the river. You won't have to worry about being conflicted between college and the NBA.

My thoughts were he is a decent coach really gets after it on defense, horrendous recruiter, lazy to actually put in the work to be successful. Im not upset. This is not life and death for me. Im not a tubby supporter but Cal is only averaging 3-4 wins more a season. Cal, is a good tournament coach to a point.

Are you upset? Does me having a brain wich allows me to be an independent thinker offend you? Am i allowed to not like certain philosophies Cal lives by but still love him as a coach? Are you gonna be ok? Did you expect me to say give me back tubby? Life will go on, different perspectives help from having you have a closed mind.
What do you think is a normal improvement from a decent coach to a top coach?

"He only added 150 lbs to his bench press"
"They only own 8 houses"
"She only has a D cup"

Only, only, only.

And the "good tournament coach to a point" has won more tourney games than anybody else since he's been here, including K who has had just as many five stars per roster on average since 2010.

Of course you can disagree with Cal's philosophies.

But you're not gonna convince anybody but your own choir if you don't give credit where it's due.

Yes I choose you because he already made his case he is all for UK. Who are you for?
I'm for UK and lots of UK players in the NBA is good for UK. The fact that you and the OP can't see that make you both either trolls, U of L fans, or special needs. If you are 1 or 2, I hate you. If you are 3 I love you and would like you sponsor your trip the the "olympics".

This is a really stupid thread. Of course we all want UK to win titles first and foremost but that doesn't mean we can't cheer for our former players in the NBA. I know a lot of you don't watch much of the NBA but I do, and I thoroughly enjoy seeing our guys play well.

I'm perfectly fine with flooding the NBA with talent year after year. its setting UK up for future success when these guys are 40-50 years old and have their hands in the basketball cookie jar across america. Maybe then we might be handed titles the same UNCheat gets.
This. If the "mercenary" stuff that rival fans used to spout held up, it wouldn't matter. But when you listen to Wall Boogie Towns etc, they are deeply loyal to UK and it will pay off for generations.

How dare those grown men and women have political opinions that they publicly express! You are directly contradicting yourself by posting your political views to public message boards and then saying this is the reason you don't watch professional sports.

Exactly my point. It's like wishing old girlfriend good luck in life. I once loved and adored you but now I have moved on.
And you think it's fair to ask them to pass on millions of dollars to entertain you for free? You don't have a problem with people using others as long as you aren't the one being "used" right?

I'M A ONLA FIR THA UNIVERSITA OF KENTUCKAH BAH GAWD.

ANY PLAYER THAT AINT HUR FIR YEARS AINT NO TR0000 WILDCAYUT. I DON'T CARE 'BOUT NO STANKIN' PRE-MADONNAS IN THAT NBA.

(It also amazes me how many of you claim to love basketball, but seem to hate the game played at its absolute highest level while being head over heels for a game where teams play 2-3 zones and struggle to break 60 points in 40 minutes on a routine basis.)

slowly step away from the public library keyboard, and put down the pipe.
