Cal's Double Standard

Same for Labissiere. Give these guys some game experience playing through mistakes.

Cal is playing Willis quite a bit this half. Willis playing well...OP is just clueless. There are 40 mins in a bball game and Willis is like the 7th-8th man so he is getting a fair amount of run.

Simple as this: Cal has expectations for Willis on offense and defense. While Willis often fulfills expectations on offense, he very often falls well short of expectations on defense. Cal is trying to make Willis a better player, wants him to do well, and it is (you are) absolutely beyond all reason to think (much less express that insanity by posting) otherwise.

that play is exactly why Cal doesn't like playing Willis. He should know better.

Cal has made it clear, he doesn't need to be fancy with the ball. Why did he try to do there? Cal has said since the very beginning, shoot the ball.

Willis doesn't turn the ball over as much as Murray. Also, according to Cal, he pulled Willis because he allowed a 3 point basket as if he was the only one to do so.

Bingo. If you have way more positives than negatives, you will play. You will play.

That is a poor excuse. Cal is all about the stars. Players will soon learn that if you don't have the stars, you should look another home because you will not get an even chance at UK.

It's not really a double standard. Its because Murray and company are one and done and has fewer college floor to make mistakes. That's why they are allowed to play though their mistakes. Cal knows Willis will be back next season, and there isn't a hurry up effect like Cal has talked about.

Plus, cal knows how to motivate. Maybe Willis responds better to public criticism. He played better in the 2nd half.

Great strategy. Stars win games. No one can argue with the success of Cal and UK. I could care less if lower ranked guys do not come here. UK will be in Final Fours and competing for titles and they can go play for irrelevant programs like EKU, WKU, Murray ST, etc.

it's not the TO that coach Cal cares about. Coach Cal doesn't care about missed shots either.

It's the process before that he cares about. Willis is instructed to not do what he did, which lead to TO.

Ulis has TO also, but it doesn't matter. His TO is within his role. Which isn't a big of a deal.

While I agree, Murray needs to cut down on his TO. His TO is more related to lack of his experience in college and being stronger with the ball. He'll be fine.

I'll also add, Tubby played lower ranked guys more...UK never went to a Final Four post 98. So if Cal played Willis and Hawkins starter minutes fans would bitch because we never go to Final Fours anymore.

OP must be Derek's pissed relative or something. Good grief guy get a grip, Cal doesn't have it out for the kid. He plays good and shoots well but he can be a huge defensive liability at times.

Your excuse for the double standard is ridiculous. However many games that Murray has to play through his mistakes is his choice.

It seems like the OP posts the exact same message every game? Am I wrong?
Of course - it's his/her right; just curious.

Willis gets pulled after each (in Cal's mind) mistake while Murray and Briscoe are allowed free rein to make turnovers and miss shots.
It seems to me that Cal hates to see Willis succeed so he looks for any reason to pull him.
Meanwhile, the Cats have played great defense in the first half. And Cal made sure to criticize Derek for allowing ONE 3-pt FG during half-time interview. Way to throw Willis under the bus, Coach. Guess none of the other guys had any break downs in defense.

Willis is white. Murray and Briscoe are black. Cal hates white people. Pretty simple really.

Cal runs the team. He has done a good job based on our winning percentage and trophy case. He is with the team everyday and I am not there so he has a whole lot more info to go on I trust his decision making more than mine when it comes to the UK basketball team. Until his teams start losing on a consistent basis I won't question his personnel decisions.

I can remember some family members moaning about this with Joe B. Hall and his players. Funny to hear this 30-40 years later.

Murray is a much better basketball player than Willis on both end's of the floor. Again, better players are needed in the game more so they can get away with making more mistakes. Pay attention, it is not a hard concept. This literally goes on EVERYWHERE, not just at UK with Cal.

So if Willis' pros outweighed his cons he still wouldn't play more because the "stars" are ahead of him?

As if Willis brings the same game as Murray... you have hated Cal since he got here, why do you put yourself through this every year?

When you don't have a reasonable response, you are left with trying to put someone on the defensive by pulling out the usual tired "you have hated Cal since he got here." cry. You should be willing to discuss the issue with something of substance or simply shutup. You can cry "you hate Cal" until you turn blue in the face but it won't change what any fair minded person can obviously see. If Cal isn't going to play the non-five stars, he should not accept them on the team.

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts oh what a wonderful world this would be.

11,971 trolling posts...amazing.

I guess you think we can sign 13 5 stars? Is that how dumb you are? Because that is what you just said.

You make yourself look really stupid more and more each year.

I hope Cal stays until he is 90 just to piss you off.

It has nothing to do with race. It is all about the number of stars associated with the name. He called out Willis at half-time as if Briscoe had been doing lots of great things.
[laughing] Yep, it's all about the stars and has absolutely nothing to do with what a player does and does not contribute to the team.

If that's the case, and it truly is all about the number of stars, then would you mind explaining to me why 5* players such as Lee and Wiltjer went through the same thing?

Noticed that and thought the same ...Briscoe and Murray both bad games ...where it is going to kill us is when he has to play them in tight games and neither of them can handle the ball and Briscoe is horrible on the offensive end...can't have him shooting and is the worst ft shooter on the team

What is amazing is that you have no real logical defense for the obvious so you are left making posts of personal attacks.

Good point. What about 5 star Orton? He didnt get much run during his time here.

You think it is intelligent to suggest that we only sign 5 star players and not let any others on the team? That was dumb in my opinion.

You have cried and complained about Cal since 2010, that is a fact.

You tell us who should be our coach.

They went though those things because there were other 5 stars to play over them. There was nothing spectacular about Briscoe's game but you didn't hear Cal tell him that he had one more chance. Amazing, he told Briscoe that he needed to shoot the ball. Are you kidding me? Briscoe is not a shooter. He needs to spend a lot more time in the gym developing a shot before he starts jacking up too many jumpers.
