Willis gets pulled after each (in Cal's mind) mistake while Murray and Briscoe are allowed free rein to make turnovers and miss shots.
It seems to me that Cal hates to see Willis succeed so he looks for any reason to pull him.
Meanwhile, the Cats have played great defense in the first half. And Cal made sure to criticize Derek for allowing ONE 3-pt FG during half-time interview. Way to throw Willis under the bus, Coach. Guess none of the other guys had any break downs in defense.

Derek, who I really like, must play with more focus on the defensive end. He gives up rebounds and shots because he falls out of position.

He's just challenging him. Willis gives up a lot of wide open shots. Plus his defense is lacking on occasions. He loves Willis, doesn't want him to second guess himself.

It's because of his defense. Cal even said it during the halftime interview. Quit being a blind Willis lover.

I hate the use of amirite. Gets on my nerves for some reason.

Because only tools say it, just like only tools look for a reason to make a Willis complaint in a game where the Cats have played arguably their best half of the season.

I think it's clear you're the one with the double standard. He went over with Willis what he was supposed to do for 3 straight days (they showed him telling him that on TV) and what did he do in the first 10 seconds? Exactly opposite of what he was instructed to do. He gave up five of Ole Miss' 12 points for most of the half. You don't reward kids that don't do as asked. This isn't about just playing good or bad it's about doing what's asked and Cal made it no secret that one player isn't doing that.

(Don't call people names please)

And considering that Ole Miss is shooting 6/26, no, not a lot of other guys had breakdowns on defense.

MdWildcat is right- you need to find a new team.

Yeah, he was mad because he makes no attempt to box out and that is an automatic out for Cal. It does seem the most obvious ones stick out when DW is around, the ball finds it's way into the opponent nearest him :)

Willis gave up 5 points in like 15 seconds, and left open guys for 3 a couple more times when in the game...did not box out a couple of times leading to offensive rebounds, etc. He did have a nice putback jam that was nice. The problem is, if you think Willis deserved more run in that half you have an agenda and are putting a player ahead of the program.

And did the OP compare Willis to Murray? Of course the Lebron James of the team is gonna get to play through more mistakes. This happens on every NBA and bigtime college teams...your key best players are gonna get more minutes and thus get to play through more mistakes. Murray has 11 points and is our only real 3 point threat.

Also, why no similar threads about Hawkins? Because he is black? Note: I'm being facetious here but sometimes I do have to wonder...Hawkins didnt play well either but no one is complaining in the game thread or this one that he should get more run or there is a double standard.

As you saw Cal at halftime, they had been working on that for 3 days this week. And Willis came in and immediately fell off his guy, who hit a 3. Willis is a "borderline rotation" guy. He will get minutes, IF he does certain things. Willis is there to hold his own, while subbing for someone else. And not to hurt us. If we get a positive set of minutes from him, that is almost a bonus.

Murray and Briscoe are solid starters, and do make mistakes. But they make up for it, by a factor of 2-1 or 3-1.

Relax, he seems to know what he's doing.

Not a name, an accurate description.

This is why wew lost one of our best 3 point shooters to Gonzaga Kyle Wiltjer and he has done awesome with Mark Few and Gonzaga. Cal hated how he played defense and was pulled plenty of times because of his lack of Defense at Kentucky. Derek Willis reminds me of Wiltjer and that Wiltjer was an oustanding shooter and 3 point shooter but his defense got him on the Bench too many times at Kentucky. That is why he transferred to Gonzaga and the last 2 years has nearly averaged 20ppg. and is still drilling the 3!

I wish you guys would shut up about Willis..He's not very good and will play 2-3mpg next year...

You need to think that YOU are the racist

Huh?

Two shitty comebacks to the same post and that's all you come with?

Seriously, you had to reply twice to an obviously tongue and cheek comment making fun of the OP for finding a reason to bitch after the Cats played their best half of the season.

In an irrelevant conference and still playing no D. Wiltjer is also a much better shooter and player than Willis. No real comparison.

And UK has done just fine without Wiltjer. Even better than Gonzaga has with Wiltjer. So there's that...

Give me a call when your Wiltjer led Gonzaga is a legitimate title threat or even a final four contender. I won't hold my breath.

I look at it like this. Willis is a Jr., who has been in the program for three years and should know better. Willis' positives and negatives kind of even out. UK can manage without major contributions from Willis.

On the other hand, Murray and Briscoe are Fr., who are playing in their 13th college game and don't know any better yet. Murray's and Briscoe's positives far outweigh their negatives. UK won't be able to manage as well without major contributions from either or both.

Bingo. If you have way more positives than negatives, you will play. You will play.
