Calipari In-Home with De'Aaron Fox Today

Would love to see this young man playing for the Cats next year...he is a great talent!

I feel better about our chances with Fox than any player in the class. He looks like a Cal pg. I wish the kid would just go ahead and give his verbal. The waiting game is the most annoying part of recruiting.

I'm confused. Does he take the spot from Ulis? Or are you all convinced Ulis is bound for the NBA?

I think Ulis is a very good, insanely quick player, but don't see him jumping until he becomes a better overall shooter.

Dudes in the League shoot. Tyler, while very good, isn't in that class yet.

Or is Coach Calipari recruiting over Ulis? I doubt this, as the Kentucky Nation has pretty much agreed that Ulis is one of, if not the best, point guard(s) in the game.

I'm not being disrespectful at all. But Fox seems a hard sell if you have Ulis.

Whether he will go pro after this coming season has been very much a source of debate around here. However his shooting has most decidedly not been. He hit 43% from long-range last year. He just didn't have to shoot very often with as many ridiculous weapons as we had last year.

Personally I find it pretty likely that this is Ulis' last season. But even if it's not, if Cal can sell Tyler, Briscoe, and Murray on playing together at the same time, he should have no problem convincing Fox to play with Tyler.

How many PG's not named Curry shoot 43% in the league?

Cal recruiting over another player is not a concern of his. He simply recruits the best players possible - as it shoudl be.

I didn't realize he shot that well from deep. My bad.

He might as well go after this year. He isn't likely to get any taller and his skill set is, well, set.

Kentucky turns over a ton of players (to the League), I just think they would be better served to have a multi-year player at the helm.

You're right. Those multi-year pgs are working wonders for Kansas. Too bad we will have to keep suffering with our freshman.

Ulis is an incredible scorer from anywhere on the court. When he's open, he's money. He also has a very good floater. He just had so many talented options last year that he wasn't relied on to score. But he is a very good shooter. I doubt he'll ring up giant numbers in the points column night in and night out this season, but the guy can take over, like in the Louisville game.

I come in peace. I like Mason over Ulis, but I'm a KU homer.

I was simply saying that, with UK's high turnover (due to multiple players going to the NBA) it would be good for your program to have a multiple year floor General.

No offense intended man.

None taken from me. I agree, it would be great for Ulis to come back his junior season. Who knows how it'll play out and how much NBA people like him during and after this season. And you should believe that about Mason, because he's on your favorite team. But we will see how they match up this January.

We just signed possibly the #1&2 PGs in the class to play alongside Ulis this year.

It's best to accept that Ulis is better than Mason. Ulis is probably 2-3 tiers above Mason, they aren't really in the same ball park.

I don't know if you come in peace or not, but you seem like you're trying to stir the pot.

You say you're confused, talk about Cal recruiting over guys, take shots at one and done.

You don't seem to realize that Cal brought in 2 more lead guards to play beside Ulis this year. How would bringing in Fox be different? Unless you think Briscoe and Murray are both staying too.

Talk incorrectly about Ulis needing to improve his shooting...google it. Easy.

So maybe you are just confused like you say, but you seem like a snickering little rival fan taking as many veiled shots as you can think of.

And yeah, I guess a multiple year floor general would be nice. But we've gotten to the Final Four basically every year with a freshman running the show. Poor John Wall only made it to the Elite Eight.

So it seems like a shot at our program more than your genuine concern for our well-being. Maybe I'm just reading you all wrong.

Edit to add: probably just wishful thinking on your part since you're trying to convince yourself that Fox will come to Kansas. Can't say I blame you for that.

No. I didn't google his shot %. My bad.

And make no mistake, I am a Kansas homer who honestly thinks Mason is better than Ulis. Better at scoring and certainly better at rebounding.

Ulis is better at distributing the ball and he breaks down defenses with his quickness.

Frank can break down a defense as well, but still needs to learn to pass after his drive.

Ulis had an incredible luxury last year, having so many truly talented bigs to whom to pass.

This year, he has fewer options and will need to score more. Is all I'm saying. Your backcourt is truly bad ass. Murray is a scorer, Briscoe is a so so shooter. So Ulis will need to fill in the numbers.

Briscoe did win an All Star 3pt contest:

And he makes shots like this:

Cal has said several times Ulis is in the NBA next year. Most expect Murray and Briscoe to be there too.

Why are there so many Kansas and Duke fans over here constantly commenting on our team as if we asked for their advice?

We have had multi year pgs the past two years.. Harrison last year and Ulis this year.. If we want em any longer,, Cal would have to recruit 3-4* pgs (Frank Mason types) and non of the top 1-4 ones.. What sense would that make? We're doing pretty good as is with 4 final fours in 5 years.. What else would you want? Lol..

Mason is better than Ulis. Hahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Get it together man its not even close! Ulis is better in every phase of the game, except the fact Mason is stronger.

Your argument for ulis's good freshmen year was due to multiple bigs to go to is weak. He has more guys to run along side him this year along with poythress, Lee and skal to throw lobs to.

Cats!

I've posted several times about this--nothing has changed--UK for Fox and Cal visited Jared Vanderbilt today as well. Still hearing Vanderbilt could end up attending BBM with Fox--only his visit would be an unofficial.

I thought it was a lil funny the KU fan saying Ulis needs to become a better shooter to turn pro. Shooting is not the kids problem turning pro. This kid is money from 3. Every time he sets up to shoot from deep, I'm at the point that I expect it to go in. His only problem of going pro is something he can't improve on and that's his height. If you can't improve on your only weakness, why not declare early to turn pro? I think he's going to lead this team to a title and then go pro. It shouldn't be too hard to convince Fox playing with Ulis even if he doesn't go pro after this year. I mean we just talked 2 Pure point guards into playing with the kid just this year. When you have a pg as good as this kid, other great players want to play with him. It also helps when he's a pass first type of pg. I'm not even going to comment on KU's pgs being better than Ulis. To me that's just silly and not worth Arguing about. After our game this year, I think you'll see what we're talking about and think it was a silly thing to say/think.

Rebounding? They are point guards. That is hardly a main thing for them. Ulis is a very good point guard. Mason is a solid scoring guard. Ulis is better at getting into a defense and finding the open man. Better defensively, much better at running the team, you know a point guards main job.

ep.

Yep. We've made 3 FF with freshmen PGs (Knight, Teague, Harrison).

Would I love to have an elite PG who stays 3 or 4 years? Obviously. But that isn't the way the world works any more.

Ralph -- could Vanderbilt reclass?
Vanderbilt doesn't turn 17 until April. That makes a reclassification highly, highly unlikely. He's young for his grade, and reclassifying would mean he'd have to play 2 years of college basketball, because he won't be eligible for the 2017 draft regardless.

I take it you never heard of Wall and Bledsoe?

so can anyone answer my question? Was the handicapped kid a friend of Fox's, like he knew he was a UK fan and just asked if he wanted to come over while Cal was there visiting? What's the story there?
I'm also curious about how this happened.
Regardless, really cool of Fox to let that happen. I'll be a fan no matter where he goes.
