Caleb Wilson

I'm starting to cool on him a bit. Part because of the rumored NIL cost and the dragging of the decision.. but I also think Pope is going to be right there with Dan Hurleyn and a few others as most desirable to play for and we're going to have our pick of transfer players AND recruits.

Top program that players want to play for.
Top coach and system that players want to play in.
A coach that doesn't lose his shit.

Only one program satisfies all those..

Pope has to be very attractive to those in the transfer portal! I honestly would rather have a experience portal PF! Someone with a developed 3 points shot, and strong enough to defend and rebound in the SEC!
If Wilson comes I welcome him, but I'm not sure he is ready for the hammering he will endure this time next year! Cousins, randle ect had the body. Wilson to my eyes appears to to slight built to be the starting PF. JMO

Honestly I’m not sure if I even care about getting any 1 and done type players anymore. Maybe JJ will be but he’s a ky boy so that’s different. Not sure we should be paying millions for 1 high school player. Spend that on a talented portal player instead if you decide you’re willing to spend that on 1 player.

The only players who would not be attracted to this system are those who put getting to the next level above all else. Ones who want to be individually showcased, not saying Williams is that type of player. I think Pope can identify those players and make a good call as to how/if they will work in his system

Could care less. I honestly can’t imagine why any coach in the ncaa with a platform and a too 10 team would want a freshman/one and done.

11 to 12 points per game.

6 to 7 rebounds per game.

We can find that kind of production in the first week of the portal.

I'm not sure Wilson is worth the hype. He'd be a nice additional "Pope is an elite recruiter" feather from a PR standpoint, but from a practical standpoint, Wilson looks like a less skilled, skinnier version of Terrence Jones.

He's basically Jonathan Isaac at the same stage.

I'm not sure Wilson is worth the hype. In fact, I'm certain he's not. He'd be a nice additional "Pope is an elite recruiter" feather from a PR standpoint, but from a practical standpoint, Wilson looks like a middle class version of Terrence Jones.
Been saying this for awhile. Pope is winning too much on the court to need any “PR” wins. Let the kid get the bag from UNC and let’s go build around our freshmen with proven portal pieces

I’m with you now, if we get him great if not me get somebody from the portal

I'm leaning that way. We'll already be loaded with finesse guys in the front court next year (Garrison and Moreno). I'm not sure adding another skinny guy who can't shoot is the ultimate answer to the riddle. He's be a fine complimentary fourth option, but I don't see him as a primary top three scoring option next year.

I get what you’re saying. But there are a TON more top 10 kids that turn out closer to Justin Edwards. And Cooper Flagg hasn’t won anything yet. Look up how many lottery picks have played in the final four lately.

I want him but honestly don't care that much. Would be just as happy with a top level transfer like an Oweh, Carr etc.

I mean, he’s 6’9 and 195 . How “grown ass man “ can he be ? And why do you have Buzz Williams as your avatar?
I thought one of the videos had him around 215. He is one of these kids that has multiple tutors, including weight training. Notice ament, lewis, Johnson and others speak glowingly of wilson. To them he is a stud, and I hope so because the tea leaves are more and more saying kentucky.

A player I like is Rasheer Fleming from St joes. He has been playing very well this year, and if he transfers would be somebody I hope Kentucky goes after

The one thing I really appreciate about the transfer portal is that freshmen aren't nearly as important as they used to be. Don't get me wrong, I would love to get Wilson. However these long, drawn out recruiting announcements don't interest me at all anymore. There will be plenty of options to fill that position. Let me know when the decision is made. Until then I couldnt care less about top 5 lists and what schools they are going to visit.

Yea I'm getting to be the same way. I don't have any issues hitting the portal hard. That's the way it's just gonna be from now on. I'd love to get the blue chippers, but it's just not mandatory anymore.

I want Wilson too, but we are also going to have to have another Amari type player from the portal to battle all of the other muggers in the SEC next year.

I agree unless you can get a top 3 kid that Coach Pope really wants. To be honest, I trust his evaluating ability MORE than Cal's at this point in both of their careers.

I trust that Coach Pope with an entire year to go after who he wants in the transfer portal, to get game changing players for his system. Heck, look what he did in about 2 months!!!!

I feel like the future is bright no matter WHO we get!!! With the system Coach Pope runs why in the world wouldn't a kid want to play here now????!!!!

It's like Coach Rupp used to say, "You can take a boy to Memorial Coliseum, sit him down for 5 minutes and if he doesn't want to play for Kentucky after just looking at the place, he may be too dumb to go to college anyway".

😁 😁 😁 😁

Is Wilson looking at the competition in the SEC and shying away from that competition, if he goes to UNC?

That’s the thing; there are absolutely freshmen worth having on a roster. Most recent national champions have at least one or two in their starting lineups. If there’s a Flagg or an AD, or even a SGA, Jamal Murray, Reed Shepherd, Rob Dillingham etc. I’m totally good with adding those kids.

The difference is, Pope isn’t going to hang the success of the team on all freshmen every year. They’ll be complimentary pieces. So even if they are a bust, you’re still going to have a solid veteran team to go about the season.

I will add that I don’t know enough about Wilson to form an opinion on what kind of impact he’d have. I’ve been wrong enough in the past on dudes I HAVE watched a ton of video on not to bull crap on guys I haven’t 😁

I know nothing about him as I never follow recruiting. Once they pick UK then I find info on them.
But I am already sick of seeing his name pop up on threads.
Wish he would pick a school. Stop dragging it out.

My concern is all the highlight reels including full games are mainly that he is dunking or put backs. I don't see post moves and it clearly appears he is going to have a learning curve. All those dunks won't happen in college ball. However, because he is highly sought after it would reflect positively for future recruits about wanting to be at Kentucky.

By most accounts, what most coaches love is his ability to compete on both ends of the floor. I have seen some vids with him making shots. The problem is we know they are only showing the makes. I don’t know what his efficiency numbers look like.
