Caleb Wilson

If he wants to come welcome aboard, if not I couldn’t possibly care any less. I just don’t really care about freshmen after 15 years with Cal. Flagg the player of the century got the ball stripped and then had a turnover because the transfer from Drexel was more experienced.

It's liberating to not be dependent upon the whim of a high school kid.

I would love for the kid to commit but it’s hard to get a good read if he will or not. I think he would be a great fit for Pope’s system but if he decides to go elsewhere I don’t think it will impact our season next year.

I’m so glad that more and more people are warming up to the idea of assembling a good team of players with the right mindset, whether it be portal additions or high schoolers. The days of looking at the Rivals top 25 and trying to pick a bunch of skinny guys is over, at least by today’s rules. Go out and get some men who can and want to play who are mentally tough and can play physical basketball.

At this point I trust Pope's talent evaluations above all else. If Pope wants Caleb Wilson on the team, then I agree with Pope.

It's not like we don't have enough room for both a good portal class and a good freshman class. As it stands right now we have Perry, Noah, Chandler, Almanor, Oweh, and Garrison maybe, assuming nobody transfers out. Then 4 freshmen hopefully and that leaves room for up to 5 transfers.

why we have almanor next year, he is not covid year transfer and only has four years eligibility

I thought one of the videos had him around 215. He is one of these kids that has multiple tutors, including weight training. Notice ament, lewis, Johnson and others speak glowingly of wilson. To them he is a stud, and I hope so because the tea leaves are more and more saying kentucky.
Maybe he’s put on some weight .

Klutch kid in a bidding war with two blue bloods so it's safe to say there's a ton of NIL money involved. I want Wilson badly but spreading out the money via the portal after the season with proven talent might be the better move.

Pope cleaned up in the portal as a bit of an unknown. With a year at UK under his belt and players seeing his offense, he should have no problem plucking a few elite players to fill out the roster.

It's funny when so many people "cool" on a kid cause the playing doesn't commit fast enough. I hope he waits until July to just screw with people.
There’s a lot of logical reasons to prefer big money being committed to proven transfers instead.

But because this news was “an announcement of an announcement timeline” there’s an undoubted negative turn in perception to the kid. Remove Branham’s UNC positive article and change this to a “Caleb Wilson announcing January 25th” thread and the tone would be different.

That doesn’t mean any of the prefer Ament or prefer transfer folks are wrong in those beliefs.
