Down to the PAC-2.

It was thought the PAC might absorb some of the WAC or MWC schools to remain viable. Now, it's probably the other way around...

ESPN 10:30 pm est game scheduling lives beyond 2023. Instead of Pac 12 after dark it will be ACC 17 after dark. They can alternate Cal & Stanford homegames weekly. And didn't have to pay the old Pac 12 $30M per team, the offer they gave them last yr that was stupidity foolishly turned down.

This isn't gonna prevent Clemson and unc and fsu from leaving. It will keep the ACC alive though I suppose.

The GOR will keep each from leaving until 2036 unless they find some legal loophole that I’m not aware of. It seems pretty air tight.
You may think that and many are saying that BUT if some entity really wants to leave, they will leave.

UNC, Clemson, and FSU voted against adding schools. They will all be gone before 2036.

It would cost each school at least $500 Million, if not more. The ACC has zero incentive to negotiate anything. Moreover, they need now at least nine schools to break the GOR and that’s not happening.

Personally, I think this entire mega conference model is going to fall flat on its face. Kill the regional rivalries and you kill the golden goose. Over time, the networks are going to re-negotiate the media deals or, at the very least, discard the deadwood (Vandy, MSU, IU, Purdue, Rutgers..possibly others).

The ACC had to do this. If their membership drops below 15, ESPN could renegotiate it's contract with the ACC, which would have resulted in less money. When FSU and Clemson leave the ACC will still meet the 15 team minimum

No question, they now need to modify the 12-team CFP rules for 2024. As it currently stands, 6 automatic bids go to the top conference champions, then 6 bids go to the remaining highest ranked teams. It's very likely two of those automatic bids for conference champions will go to fairly low ranked teams -- maybe not even top 25.

They are. It should be top 12 top ranked IMO.

Pretty good haul for them.

They're bicoastal now and have pretty much every time zone and demographic covered.

Got some west coast exposure, got some Texas, got the east coast, got the south...not bad.

Will be interesting to see how that pans out with ratings and money. Same for B10...They have the traditional middle America fan bases/markets and now they're going to get some prime time 9:00/10:00 est but 6-7:00 west coast/LA

First OSU USC prime time night game should be bonkers and a ratings jack pot.

Need a name change from Atlantic Coast Conference to the BOTH Coast Conference. So dumb Cal and Standford playing in anything Atlantic named. Also, the Big Can't Count conference needs to be changed. BIG19 BIG 20. They will be 20 before they are done. Lol PAC 12 is now what ? The PAC 2 ? Sad days with all the conferences folding, Disney and Charter getting more greedy by the day. The better be careful, NCAA football will be like NASCAR and MLB. People will get tired of all the BS.

So now we have 4 mega conferences. Big 10, SEC, ACC. BIG 12. Throw in the Big East.(basketball is stout) Now who steps into the big dog status ? I would say MWC. MAC could really strengthen if they play it smart. I lnow WKU talked about possibly joining. Those Wednesday night MACtion games may get popular. I really hate seeing the nostalgia of the PAC12 ending. Man tailback U (USC) and UCLA had some great battles back in the day. They still will but just not the same.

Forget costs of travel. What are they going to do when VA Tech is playing Cal on a Tuesday and it’s volleyball or something. That’s A TON of travel.
This is where it falls apart. A sport where you only play once a week is one thing…. But basketball etc where you have multiple games a week are going to be a huge adjustment…much less the non revenue sports. It’ll turn into “series” to play the same team multiple times in the same week and that isn’t good for the sport imo.

All Coast Conference
Other than Louisville…. Unless you count the Ohio river as a coast instead of a river bank.

It’s basically the all American rejects conference now once a combo of UNC, VT, UVA, Duke, FSU, Clemson leaves

Big 10 and SEC are taking their pick and thriving…everyone else is scrambling to stay afloat. Doggy paddling at best

Enough added revenue for each school will cover travel costs. SMU has a rich donor base. Same with Stanford and UCB. This is a win for the ACC.
So they will get to spend the extra money on travel?

There sure has been a lot of tradition fly out the window lately.
