My older brother and cousins worked in the coal mines back in the day as well…Love the above picture.
He’s always nailed number two for the most part. Got a little sassy the past couple of years with some comments towards the fans.In the end, honest, mature and fair Kentucky fans want two things from the basketball coach:
1. Give them a team that has a realistic shot at Final Fours and championships as many years as possible .
2. Understand the soul and the character of the people of this state.
John Calipari has provided those two things to an extraordinary degree, and deserves everyone's respect and appreciation.
To be fair, most of us get defensive and annoyed when others with little to no experience come tell us how to do our jobs. We would probably talk down to them too, after a certain point. My family stems from the coal mines in EKY. Calipari has always respected and appreciated what the state means to most fans.
He does have an arrogance about basketball that could be toned down. There is no doubt he has a condescending attitude when the fans question his coaching decisions.
I work with several ex coal miners up at the plant. Almost all of them from Louisa onward South were a coal miner at some point or another. Damn good people. He’s always nailed number two for the most part. Got a little sassy the past couple of years with some comments towards the fans.
Number one needs a little bit of tweaking. Good regular season last year but have to finish the job.
I want Cal to be here. But the energy and results have to come. And I like what I’ve seen in the past 4 months.
Rick always had number one. Number two got lost a lot of times with him. Cal (whether it’s sincere or not) is most warm and open with fans.
But I think he got a little lost but is now starting to remember what this program is about. Take the Blue White game on the road. Every year. Because it’s pictures like that that make our program very very special. That dude busts his ass in the dark and damp to keep the lights on for a lot of folks. And I guarantee you he was dog tired. But still made time for his kid to celebrate being a part of BBN. And I no he isn’t an alum. Or a huge donor. But his fandom is just as sincere (if not more) than the lower deck of Rupp.
I love this picture. THAT is the soul of our fine Commonwealth.
That’s why I want Cal here. I’ve said it so many times. Cal has the heart to be here. And embodies the PR aide of whag Kentuckys coach should be. We are the flagship school. When you are the coach of UK basketball you are pretty much equal to the governor in terms of influence. Yes, a figure head but still. If a good UK basketball coach overall asks for something, stuff will happen. Many times I have questioned Cal’s coaching decisions. But his kindness, caring and generosity can’t be questioned.
many people do NOT understand how hard and dirty that work is. Being the WKY boy I am, I’ve passed through the WKY Coalfields many a time. I’ve smelled the work of Paradise as it rolled. And while I hate that they have to go in Those mines to keep the lights on, I appreciate that they do. We have to do everything we can to keep them safe and happy until we find better options for energy.I work with several ex coal miners up at the plant. Almost all of them from Louisa onward South were a coal miner at some point or another.
Waiting for the usual posters to chime in and say this is just a cheap ploy to get those same posters to stop hating him.

Actually saw this guy during the blue white game in the background. Dude looked spent. Glad Cal brought this to everyone's attention.

Giving Cal all the props for this. Proud of Cal for this beyond words. So many of my family and friends lived or are living this life.Family found. Getting the VIP treatment.
You must not have been around during the Pitino years. I live a coach that’s so confident in his abilities that it comes off as arrogant, Pitino and Calipari both are the same way when it come to that aspect of basketball. Live by the three die by the three is what they said about Pitino, he didn’t cave to the criticism and I respected that about him.My family stems from the coal mines in EKY. Calipari has always respected and appreciated what the state means to most fans.

Boy it sure does! My dad worked in the underground mines here in western KY for thirty-five long years, I mean back in the day when the coal was brought out by mules and horses! He died of black lung disease in 1988. So yes, this hits really close to homeDamn, that hits home.

That's AWESOME!

I think they gave away tickets last year to teachers and nurses.Honestly I know Kentucky like most athletic departments is all about money but for some of these crap games they should let families like the coal minor and his son or families affected by the floods in the eastern Kentucky get seats to a game of two for some of these games against lower competition. There will be open seats anyways might as well give the chance to some people who wouldn’t get that chance otherwise
Yea they did, they should do it again for half those games the upper levels and some lower levels will be half empty, they might as well give some folks a chance who wouldn’t get to otherwiseI think they gave away tickets last year to teachers and nurses.
