Basketball season is back and this thread never dissapoints or dissapears. Thanks Indiana for continual suckage decade after decade. This thread appears to be going nowhere just like the Hoosiers.
Honestly, if you look back at their history they are a one coach wonder, much like UCLA .This thread is 9 years old and was made because they had sucked for so long then.
In reality they have sucked since Calbert Chaney graduated. That was 93 I think?
It was even being covered as a “return” in 02 when they went to the title game with that redhead kid.
I just hope we don’t become a history book someday.
Ole McCracken had some success, but yeah they haven't done much since Knight. Thinking of it, I guess it makes me more grateful for ole Joe B. Hall and what he maintained after Rupp here.Honestly, if you look back at their history they are a one coach wonder, much like UCLA .
Yeah guess if Sampson hadn't had those issues things may have turned out different for them. It's really amazing how many coaches Indiana has gone through since Bobby Knight. Like, whomever they hire usually can have 1-2 good seasons but they can't sustain it. Like when Crean got them that #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament but after that season was not able to replicate that success.
Dan Dakich? Think maybe he was the interim IU coach after the Sampson issues.Who was the ex-Hoosier announcer that shut down Jordan in college? Can’t think of his name . Always causing controversy. What ever happened to him ?
Before Knight, IU had 2 rather anomalous titles (40, 53) under McCracken, and not much else.Ole McCracken had some success, but yeah they haven't done much since Knight. Thinking of it, I guess it makes me more grateful for ole Joe B. Hall and what he maintained after Rupp here.
2 coach wonder, McCracken was good too.Honestly, if you look back at their history they are a one coach wonder, much like UCLA .
IU basketball will be good again when Nebraska football is relevant. Weird that Nebraska football was relevant more recently than IU basketball. This just in…..,,,Indiana basketball still sucks and everyone knows now thanks to national television.,,,,,,,That is all.
This is the right answer. The best way to demonstrate this is to look at seasons in which the team was a legitimate contender for a title —as measured by at least reaching a Regional Finals—the Elite Eight.IU was never a "power" program. Just a school that got lucky on a hire. They were basically U of San Fran before Knight.
Called it. Indiana continues to provide material for this legendary thread. It may never end. I’m 39 and I’d wager a lot of money that this thread makes it to 10,000 pages when in 59 before Indiana competes for another title.Jinx or not Indiana blows and they are gonna get blown out again.
They have not won a conference tournament title but clappy won the regular season title. This is the right answer. The best way to demonstrate this is to look at seasons in which the team was a legitimate contender for a title —as measured by at least reaching a Regional Finals—the Elite Eight.
In NCAA Tournament history Kentucky has reached that game THIRTY EIGHT times…
Indiana has reached the Elite Eight 11 times in that same time period.
They are somewhere between one fourth and one third as successful as Kentucky historically. The Hoosiers are on the level of programs like Oklahoma State and Arizona in terms of consistent tournament success and behind programs like Arkansas and even Louisville.
Tubby Smith went to four Elite Eights and won a national title. The last five Indiana coaches combined have made it as far as the Elite Eight once and haven’t even won a Conference title.
