Not awkward at all, sport.

Indiana had the world's most obnoxious fans when they were momentarily on top 40 years ago, or so. Even a regular season home win in 2012 (against a team that would knock IU out of the tournament on the way to a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP) brought out all the ugly, vile poison lurking in that fan base.

So, for those of us old enough to remember all that, seeing Indiana absolutely suck for 30 years is great schadenfreude, even during the rare and fleeting times when Kentucky is down.

The decades-long humbling of that wretched fan base has been great sport. Sport.

IU fans learned how to be obnoxious by the best ever, their Hoosier Daddy Bobby Knight.

IU truly sucks.

The difference is you're comparing unquestionably Archie's best roster at IU with his own players and unquestionably Calipari's worse UK team.

IU might be slightly better than Kentucky this year, but as an IU fan I'd give anything to see IU enjoy even a little bit of the success that Kentucky has had under Calipari, or hell even Tubby Smith.

I think, with IU, it's more a case of having to play in the 60's because we don't have any real scorers outside of TJD.

Armaan Franklin looks like he may have been rounding into another reliable scorer before he rolled his ankle and still may become a reliable scorer, but we'll see. I don't believe kids don't want to play in Archie's system. I simply think Archie lacks personality. He's not going to charm your ear off like Calipari and he isn't going to intimidate you into signing on the bottom line like Coach Knight did. Granted, he isn't DOWNRIGHT WEIRD like Clappy, Archie is just sort of there.

He desperately needs better assistant coaches to help sell IU, because Archie alone, the good coach he is, just lacks the personality to compete for elite talent.

This was their year - Trace Jackson-Davis back as an all-conference player and most everyone else - to at least make the NCAA tournament for the first time in FIVE YEARS and fifth time in 13 years.

If they blow that, I'm afraid Little Archie (Don't Call me Jughead) is gone. Through trial and error they might get a coach who can go beyond the Sweet 16 - a place they've been once since the year the FIRST Bush left the White House.

We got there in 1993 and 2002 so twice. But still embarrassing.

If I was a bettor, I'd say the odds are pretty good that 1. NCAA really wants IU in the tourney and 2. Really wants UK too; and will pair them together in some kind of play-in game (for TV of course).

I will say it puts the anxiety of Kentucky fans at losing in the Elite Eight in two out of the last three tournaments - once in Overtime and once on a desperation last second shot - in some perspective.

That's why all this "Cal has to go" after one bad year -- totally mitigated by COVID-19 - is so ridiculous. He has had more success in the last three years - including an outright SEC championship last year - than the Indiana program has had in the last 28 years.

Md, your insight comes to those of us in southern Indiana like radio free Europe gave hope to those in Prague and Warsaw during the Cold war. We know IU is bad, but your really shine the light on it.

The NCAA probably does want IU in the tournament. But at 8-11 in conference and maybe 11th place? To avoid that, they'd need to go at least 2-1 against Michigan, @ a resurgent Michigan State, and @ Purdue.

Otherwise, I think they'd have to win TWO games in the B-10 tournament, to get to maybe 10-12 in conference.

That could happen. At one time I suspected they'd suspend conference tournaments and just let EVERY team in, given the inequities in who played and who didn't.

You could get up to 256 teams (nearly eveyone who even played this year, given some conferences like the Ivies completely shut down) by just adding two games: 128 first round winners and 64 in the second round, then reseed as a regular tournament.

As a CBB fan that would be pretty awesome. But it's now Feb. 25 and if that was going to happen we'd probably have heard by now.
