Briscoe has double digit shot attempts last three games

No, I don't. And frankly, I'm not particularly blown away by his man D. He takes too long to set up on his man in my opinion. When he gets back down court, he has this annoying thing that he does. He pauses as he turns around while the other team's offense is getting their first look at the 1/2 court. He let his hands go floppy, lets them dangle in front of his shoulders. This is a waste of time. It's a stupid look in my opinion. It's always a precious couple of seconds wasted when he should have been more deliberate.

your self-important/inane posts are a waste of everyone's time

One puppy goes outside and pisses and shits in the lawn a good distance from the house. The other puppy goes outside and pisses and shits on the porch and driveway. Both are young and have done a good job in that they didn't piss all over my den. Only one puppy gets my praise. You are the other puppy. I think you get it now.
Exactly what I thought. Just as long as we both know that your opinion about Briscoe doing nothing very well except for handling the basketball couldn't be more wrong. I accept your defeat.

Nope. As I said above, us losing a game won't be all Briscoe's fault as that's nonsense to blame a loss all on one player, but him shooting double digits will be a large contributor to it. It's already been proven true vs. A & M.

Again, you are ignoring the fact that A&M got tons of offensive rebounds, and that Poy did not play, and that Lee fouled out, and that Willis got hurt in the first half, yet you are blaming Briscoe for taking 11 shots and hitting 4? What if Briscoe takes 11 shots and hits 7 of them and we still lose, will it be his fault?

Bingo. We ain't gonna be playing teams at or below the level of Tennessee in the tournament, so every possession must be maximized. Cal knows this and so does Briscoe, so it will get worked out. I tell ya right now, A & M was begging him to shoot, and he shot a bunch of jumpers EARLY in the shot clock. He was 4 of 11 and we lost in OT....

You've said it twice, but he was 5 for 12 vs. aTm, not 4 for 11.

Also had 6 rebounds and 3 assists.

Someone has to take shots.
Several last night were with 15+ seconds on the shot clock. He has to be smarter than that.

As far as the "all mental" argument, his form is very stiff and mechanical. Nothing smooth about it. That is why his misses bounce off so hard and lead to fast breaks.

I imagine that, as with his FTs, Briscoe formerly made jump shots with regularity and Calipari is hoping that repetition will knock away whatever "mind-forged manacles" are responsible for his poor %.

Many others here agree with me that Briscoe shooting double digit shots is a concern. I really don't care if your opinion is different and you're not going to bait me by trying to say I said things I didn't. Take the last word, I won't read it.

I'll say it as many times as people want to debate it. You are free to put me on Ignore, pal. I've given Brisco props several times in this thread, so I'm not concerned with those trying to bait/pile on.

I agree with this. He caught a couple of balls wide open with plenty of time on the clock. You don't HAVE to shoot in that spot.

If I'm Briscoe in that spot, I probably drive with the intention of passing. Make the defense move and they won't get those fast breaks.

And they, like you, evidently don't know squat ABOUT BASKETBALL.

So you're going to keep saying he was 4 for 11 when he was really 5 for 12? Why would you do that?

I'll say his shooting alot and shooting poorly is a concern as many times as people want to debate it. Here's your trophy for correcting me and pointing out that he still shot awful.

Murray was 6 for 16 that night.

5 for 12 isn't awful for Briscoe. It's fine, especially considering the other things he gives us.

That is 42%, not that bad, IMO. Last night , Ulis was 5-16, Murray was 9-19. Not sure what the op's point is.

5 for 12 isn't awful, but Briscoe shooting 12 times a game is too many unless almost all are layups. Had a good dialouge with several other posters last night, but now the people are showing up that aren't bothering to read the entire thread so it's time to go play golf. LOL, see ya.

i don't think he took any jumpers in the first 15 seconds of the shot clock until the game was out of hand

once the game is out of hand, why shouldn't he take open shots?

I read the whole thread. I agree that he has been taking a couple of unwise shots per game here lately.

Considering our offensive efficiency is 6th in the country and climbing, I don't agree that Briscoe's offense is the killer you think it is.

briscoe is a better player than andrew

not even that close

Well Johnny, you can have your opinion and I will have mine.

Guards can win a title for you.

If we have to play 3 of them then I'll take 3 with over 35% from 3 point land and over 75% from the line.

Briscoe's offense has been reduced to driving in the lane, but as Cal has said, "make it and dont get fouled".

That is contrary to every basketball teaching out there.

Cal tells Murray to take the foul, he told the Harrisons over and over to take the foul. They hit their FT's and caused foul trouble for the opponent.

Now we have a kid that can only take sure things because he is that bad at the line.

The fact the defense sags so far off of him is a bit embarassing and only clogs the lane for others.

Defense.... Briscoe > Andrew
Rebounding.... Briscoe > Andrew

3pt shooting.... Andrew >>>>>>>>Briscoe
FT ....... Andrew >>>>>> Briscoe

I'd bet most coaches would take a guard that can actually offer guard attributes over a tough kid who is a solid defender but more of a 6'2 PF that has less than 4 in 10 chance of hitting a FT or a 2 in 10 chance of making a 3.

Not even close for me. Especially if Tyler is running the point, which is were Andrew had most of his issues.

But, it does no good comparing players, we have Briscoe right now.

If for some reason he starts hitting shots, then we will have a great chance to go far this year assuming we stay healthy.

It's not an offensiver killer, and I never directly said that. I said I'd like to see every possession maximized and I don't think it is with him shooting 12 times. One or two possessions is what sends you home in March. As I also said at least 4 times, I have a feeling everything will work itself out, but I won't be surprised at all if he shoots double digits one game in the tournament and misses many of them, and we lose by a few points. It won't be all his fault at all, but it will be a part of us losing. Have a nice day.

I am quite sure he took 3-4 like that before 5-6 min mark but agree if out of hand it is not a bid deal.

When Willis is also on the floor, Briscoe's problems don't matter much.

We have gone from 28th to 6th in offensive efficiency since before the Kansas game. Briscoe has played a lot of minutes in all those games. But for the most part so has Willis.

One last thing and I have to run.....how many of the 5 shots that he hit against A & M were jump shots?

Something bad usually happens when you lose. Multiple things.

I just thought you were trying so hard to prove your point that you were ignoring the facts.

You highlighted the last three games. Well, the 2 games where Briscoe shot worst, we won handily. The night he shot best, we lost in OT.

So I just think Briscoe's shooting is one small piece. Not going to lie and say I don't cringe at some of his jumpers. I do.

If Briscoe gives us 5 for 12 I'm taking it every night of the week.

He is a career 47% shooter from 2.

Basically he just needs to stop taking 3s.

I think everyone cringes when he shoots. But if he is wide open, he has to take the shot, IMO. He shoots pretty decent from foul line in. But, I agree, in a close game,, he don't need to handle the ball much as his freethrow shooting is horrible. I just took exception to blaming our loss at A&M on Briscoe taking 12 shots.

guard things like handling the ball, penetrating, passing, and finishing on drives, all of which briscoe does significantly better than andrew?

and other than the free throw shooting, andrew wasn't a good shooter

Thing is someone has to shoot.
In the A&M game

Murray 16 (and that's with having to work very hard to get open to get shots off)
Ulis 12
Briscoe 12
Lee 5
Willis 4 (only played 20 mins)
Issac 2
Hawkins 1
Skal 1
Matthews 1

I'm looking at that and thinking well yeah.......Briscoe HAS to take those shots. Without Willis half the game, without Poy the entire game.......what did you want him to do. Who did you want to take those shots?

Nobody said it was his fault we lost. Stop trying to turn the twist the thread to support your argument.

Just talking here. You are staking your claim to Briscoe's poor shooting night knocking us out of the tourney.

I don't think Briscoe's poor shooting has as much impact on wins and losses as you do.

Of course if he is hitting, we are going to be nearly impossible to beat. When he misses, we still are very efficient offensively.

2 for 10
5 for 12
4 for 11

He can't take double digit shots and us make a deep run. That's the one thing I hope gets cleaned up. Love his attitude, effort and ability other than taking jump shots.
some people on this thread are trying to put lipstick on a pig. He can't shoot a lick. Face it. Cal is going to play him even to the point of losing in the tournament (like what happened last year with Ulis on the bench while Andrew played in the final game). his taking the low position on the lane when the other team is shooting free throws while one our bigs is standing above the circle is just another attempt to pad his pathetic stats.

Pathetic stats? Not as pathetic as your 2nd post. Maybe wait another 9 years and try again...?

Cal has had a ton of success in the tournament. He didn't do it by putting out sub optimal lineups.

We can talk about the platoon system last year and whether we would have benefited from more Ulis/Brooker and less Harrison Twins but that same system won us 38 straight games.

I don't think anyone is forgetting his HS stats, his AAU and big tourney stats were much worse than HS.

I have no doubt Cal wants him to shoot out of this.

But come tourney time HS stats mean nothing.

Not only is he giving possessions away he is making it harder on other players by not being defended.

Disagree. Andrew struggled grasping his role as a pg.

No similarities whatsoever in regards to shooting.

Andrew shot twice as good as Briscoe on 3s and 76% from the line.

What you would expect from a D1 guard at UK.

Intangibles such as rebounding and finishing around the rim are great...for an unskilled big man.

Guards need to be able to spread the floor, keep the defense honest and hit free throws.

I'll apologize to Andrew on your behalf for the comparison.

I would sacrifice Briscoes rebounding and bit better defense in a heartbeat, for Andrew hitting 1 out of 3 3s and 3/4 FTs, especially in the tournament.
Fair enough...

Briscoe is definitely not significantly better than Andrew handing the ball, passing or driving. He is a much better finisher.

Andrew was overrated coming out of his but never had "beyond excessive" shooting issues.

Briscoe shoots 15% from 3, Andrew shot 35% his freshman year, that is > 100% better.

We didnt wince on EVERY shot Andrew took.

I'll just assume you are another Harrison hater instead of critiquing your questionable scouting skills.
