ok thanks for the advice and i will cut out the ramblings. maybe i am just not meant for this.No offense, but your ramblings would make more sense if you learned to post them in the original thread. You don't have to start a new one every time you have a thought.

Just be yourself finneyswharf. Don't try to make everybody happy or you will be the most miserable poster here. Welcome.
many years ago i was reading the main interview of the month in Playboy magazine and it was with Kareem. A long article. They ask him who was the toughest player he ever had to guard and his response was something like this: Big white guy named Dan Issel. Any of you see that? .
Welcome to the board. I doubt you will win over many of the younger crowd with your statements and the use of the word lame to describe last year's finish. But, I agree with you that Issel was something else and the younger crowd can't warm up to him very well since they never saw him play. Most probably never have even bothered seeing him play in videos and are mainly into the most recent players. I, myself, appreciate all eras of UK basketball and can't say I'm partial to the old days or what's going on now. I can say, though, I love what Cal has brought to the program and the excitement we all can enjoy every year, including what's coming up this season. I, like you, was very bummed to lose that last game last year but can't say it was lame at all. It was a remarkable run and a very good experienced team beat us in the Final Four. Hated it but still love that team and wouldn't have traded them for anything. I love all our past players and think they all have offered something special to the UK program in their own way but don't just get caught up in the good old days, enjoy what's happening now with as much passion as you did in Rupp's time. There were some disappointing finishes back in those days and earlier, I'm sure.
i appreciate what everyone has said. I will cool it. Hope everyone enjoys the season.finney I merged the threads. I agree with the poster advising keeping the same vein of thought in the original thread. Folks will appreciate that.
Welcome aboard and happy posting. Laying back and taking it all in is a good way to get a vibe and feeling for the boards. I've been around a long time and I still do this. Just my 2 cents.

Welcome Finney. I'm fairly new to posting also. Have been readingthis board for years. I remember the Issel/Pratt years very fondly. They were good enought to have been stars in any era. My first pro game to attend was the Kentucky Coronels at Freedom Hall when they had Issel, Pratt, Gilmore, and Dampier. They could have competed with any NBA team. Although they were fun to watch, the teams of the Cal era seem to be even more enjoyable. Win or lose(hope not) they are a credit to UK and Kentucky. Don't get upset if someone calls you a troll, because it will happen. Happend to me but I just laughed about it.i appreciate what everyone has said. I will cool it. Hope everyone enjoys the season.

Thanks for the definition. Since my intent is the opposite of being inflammatory or argumentative in any way i should be good. From Wikia: Internet Troll-
In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[3]
I wish i could have chosen a cool handle of some kind. I must have put something i could remember not really knowing it would be my handle on the Rafters. I am not so computer great. Actually Finney's Wharf is where I live. Or did. House recently burned down. Moved now.Yeah, I think that definition is a bit broad myself. To get a good feel for a troll, check out some of those posts by fans from other sites in regards to Helm's banners or cheating at UNC. Even though they are polite, in some cases, they are here solely to stir up trouble.
By the way, you might have missed my earlier question. What's the origin of your handle, if you don't mind my asking? It reminded me of a seafood restaurant I visited once in New England. Finley's wharf or something like that. Too many decades ago for me to recall exactly. Just thought there might be a story behind it. In my case, I'm a fan of both the wildcats and bass fishing so I just stuck them together.

Yea i am old for sure but not THAT old. I will be around awhile i think and will definitely keep on cheering for the cats. Actually am very excited about this year. It's always awesome when old people figure out how to use the internet. Most won't even attempt to try and learn. Don't go dying on us before the season starts and keep on cheering for the wildcats.
67 is not that old, just means i have watched cats from Rupp on up. Must say the Cal era is very exciting to say the least. Game has changed so much. From freshmen having their own team to OAD's.Yea i am old for sure but not THAT old. I will be around awhile i think and will definitely keep on cheering for the cats. I have been reading Rupp Rafters for years put never knew how to post. Have no idea if this will work. I attended Kentucky in late 60's. Calipari is great recruiter of course but the class of Isssel, Pratt, Casey, Moose, Busey, etc. was pretty damn good. Went to every freshman game and we were awesome. Dampier and Riley were seniors and we only went 13-13. Dont hear enough about Issel, Casey and Pratt on here. Would have won the title going away if Casey had not been hurt, he was great. Issel is arguably the most relevant player in history of UK basketball. I am having a ball watching Calipari's teams but was crushed this year. 4 lottery picks and not win the title is pretty lame.

Finney, you're not old at all and to have lived through the part of UK history you have just makes it much better. I also remember some of the later Rupp years so I can relate to your passion for those teams and for such greats at Issel. Some of the younger crowd feel those guys could not play with today's athletes but I beg to differ and feel Issel would have been a star in today's game too. The game, as you say, has changed, but give those guys the facilities and trainers, etc. that today's players have and they would shine through. On the other note, you are in no way a troll and never felt you were with anything you have posted in this thread. Keep on posting and let's all be excited about the upcoming season. Do you get to go to games at Rupp or just watch on TV?[/QUO
I live in Virginia so unfortunately i only watch on tv, but i never miss. During the season that is my main focus. Of course when I attended UK I never missed a game at Memorial Colosium and then later attended many Colonels games in Louisville and even in Miami Beach when The Colonels played the Floridians. Went to Denver once to watch some Nuggets games. I would love to come back to Lexington to experience a game at Rupp but most of my travel budget goes to visiting my folks and kids. Todays players are absolutely truly amazing by any standard but I think Issel, Dampier, and many others could have competed. The game and the players are certainly on a different level now but some of the old timers had skills too. VERY excited by our commitment today and hope for some other early so our 2016 class can be as many seem to think it will be.Finney, you're not old at all and to have lived through the part of UK history you have just makes it much better.
