Boogie Fland enters portal

I don't remember great BBQ in Tucson either - and that city has like international awards for food / eateries I think

California had Tri-Tip -- awfully good beef but not REALLY BBQ like southerners would consider it (still damn good though)

+ Fat Matts in ATL

Hallelujah'!!
Where is the best Hot Brown in Lexington?

So you’re telling me that in an era where players are openly paid millions, you guys have more money than anyone not named BYU, a hall of fame coach who is paid 8 mil a year, and you’d be happy with a S16 in year two? After you ran a dude off who made 4 million a year, got you to 2 elite eights, and wasn’t even allowed to pay players?

Make this make sense.
Everyone wants to win as much as possible in the tournament but every year there’s more and more proof that it’s a crapshoot that doesn’t always determine how good a team or coach is. I mean Cal beat Bill Self and Rick Pitino to get to the S16. It took a miracle comeback by Florida to make it past Texas Tech before they won it all when they were clearly the best team all year. Duke with Zion and Coach K didn’t make a F4.

We get frustrated with Dave Van Horn the last few years for flaming out in regionals with one of the most talented rosters in college baseball but we still recognize he’s one of the best out there.

Assist to hunter dickinson for throwing the kansas game, but yes fairly true....its a crapshoot..i do like the idea we have a coach now who if a guy is pacing to hit 10 3s against us and the season is on the line, we might mix it up in the 2nd half now.....or if a rob dillingham comes in and hits 4 straight 3s and everyone else is struggling...maybe we dont bench him at that moment

😂

I have only had it twice because i had no idea what it was when I moved here

Halls in Winchester and Ramseys were the places i went to try it - I would recommend Ramseys since the menu is better overall and its not flooded out by the kentucky river

I THINK HotBrown may be widely different depending on where you get it?

PS - best sandwich is "Dads Favorite's" -- and if yall haven't been there you really need to listen up and drop in on them -- don't let the location scare you off ;)

Cal with NIL getting players to come back is a better version than we had the last few years plus he actually seems to care now. Late in the year looked like old Memphis bully ball. Knox is the key to have a chance to be in the top tier with the other caveat of getting those ball-dominant guards to share.

I think this is the real answer... I'm not sure Cal really changed all that much, but the environment did in a way that feeds into his mindset of "players first"...even though I think his actions displayed it was more often a sales pitch than truly "players first".

That’s just wrong, too. I’m really, really glad we have Pope now. Perfect choice. But I liked Cal and didn’t want him to leave. Those two things can be possible at the same time. People who liked and cared for Cal and his family are a quiet bunch. Why? Because a vocal group impose their will and turn any reasonable conversation sideways. At least that’s my opinion. I rarely post, but I’ve been a message board reader since Prodigy and Compuserve - living and dying with Othella Harrington, Jarod Ward, Ron Mercer and Darius Rice….among a bunch of others. As a great UK coach, Cal did what he should do and that’s give us a championship about once a decade. Would he have produced the second in the second decade of his stint? I don’t know. He didn’t stay and I’m not a fortune teller. But Cal cared for the kids and cared for the state. I wasn’t sure about him in the beginning, but I believe he and Ellen are good people. They represented us well. That matters. I wish him well and Arkansas will be better off because he took their job. I think the Arky fans are right, Cal is changing. He HAS to. The landscape is changing by the minute and at an ever increasing rate. If you can’t change, you need to quit. Some great coaches have and I bet some others jump if things don’t stabilize soon. Will Cal change enough? I don’t know, but he hasn’t ran from the challenge, so he must have some juice left. It will be interesting to see.

See my reply to quote just above yours. I am not certain Cal has really changed all that much, but we will see.

Aidoo wasnt right until the last ten-15 games. He could not jump. Nelly was injured until half way thru the season. Brazille and Z missed games. They had no preseason practices. One game we had 6 players that could play. Many with 7. Our O ran much better the very game, Georgia, DJ took over point. This season will be so different with the retention. Unless we get hit hard with injuries. That could be said for any team. I know KY was rocked also. Cal will have more playable depth this year. He has to.

Just b/c he has more bodies, doesn't mean he will play them...one of the main complaints UK fans had over the last 5+ years of Cal's tenure in Lexington was his stubbornness/unwillingness to have depth.

Other than the title team in 2012, his best team in Lexington in 2015 was loaded, dominated everyone almost all the way to an undefeated season. After that, he completed ditched having that kind of depth saying everyone couldn't be happy. If he EVER plays more than 7-8 guys significant minutes again, then he truly has changed...I'll believe it when I see it

He won’t, he will love having 6-7 guys only. That’s why they played well at the end. He had no choice to but to play 7 guys and he loved it. To his credit he’s teams play better like that when he has 7 guys that are pretty elite athletes.

Cal went to the Final Four in 2011 with essentially 6 guys, then turned around and won a title with 6 guys playing most of the minutes, so he doesn’t like going real deep. He likes playing the best players the whole game because that’s when he has had his most success.

I think with all the great defense that the 25-26 Cats will play it's going to create some great offense. So to be honest I'm not all that concerned with shooting especially when or defense is going to be suffocating.
I agree and think we will be just fine shooting the ball and we are so much more athletic with guys who can create and get to the basket. Agree our defense will create a lot of easy fastbreak /transition opportunities .

Good memory. I remember not a lot of guys playing but I didn’t remember it being that thin. I guess Vargas and Poole would have been the 7th and 8th options so he didn’t have a whole lot to turn to.

Dad’s is fantastic. Best hot browns I’ve had have come from the restaurants at Kentucky state parks or from Bardstown Tavern.

Oh good grief that was probably the most injured Kentucky team I seen my whole life
That was their whole season and they deserved the win. For all the chest puffing we had a better overall season, 8 wins against top 15 teams and we also made the sweet 16 as a 3 seed . They had a worse year than us so we came out way better.

Personally I am sick of talking about Calipari. I am grateful for the first 8 years and horrified at the last 5 as he ran our program into the ground with mediocrity.

Why argue with guys from an irrelevant program like Arkansas. Their on here because their message boards are dormant because their program isn't relevant.

IIRC, 2011 was basically Knight, Lamb, Liggins, Miller, Jones, and Harrellson with Vargas playing sparingly.

2012 was basically Teague, Lamb, Kidd-Gilchrist, Miller, Jones, and Davis with Vargas and Wiltjer playing only when those guys needed a break.

Pretty much all year for both squads.

They're going to need to learn the hard way.

Cal's best coaching happened from 95-2017 and from 2009-2024, he had the most talent any coach has ever had and he has 1 title and that was because he had a generational talent + an NBA lockout.

He also has the 2 worst NCAAT losses in UK history, the worst season in UK history and the worst home losses in UK history and he had NBA talent on all those rosters.

He’s a shit coach and a narcissist, that's a bad combination.

Haha we will be using two freshmen next year. Both top ten in a loaded class. This aint your grandpappies Cal.

Lol just wait.

We had 3 of the top 10, including the number 1 PG, the number 1 SF, and the number 1 PF, along with 2 others in the class who wound up being Top-10 picks (Reed & Rob), plus multiple returners (including a returner who was a consensus All-American), PLUS a super-senior transfer in Tre Mitchell.

And we lost to Oakland in the first round.

Plus, didn't you guys go into the year expecting to start only one freshman (Boogie)? It was supposed to be Boogie/Wagner/Davis/Thiero or Brazille/Aidoo

And you were one loss away from the NIT.

Yeah, my grandpappies Cal used to coach at Kentucky and be in Final Fours and have top-10 teams all year, so you're right, this certainly aint my grandpappies Cal.

I had you Accidentally blocked and apologize - felt like the moral imperative to tell you

Also found two nephews blocked on my phone yesterday

So unblocking you led to me seeing an invite to my nephews officer "pin on" ceremony

So I apologize AND thank you

If you want to say a few words about your powers to the board -- nows the time.....

All good and thanks.

No need. I'll have friendly debate/banner with the real ones and continue to speak the truth to those that want to embellish and move the goal posts.

Y'all have a nice class. Our rivalry from the nineties feels rekindled. We hadn't held our end up in the last two decades.

Yikes. You appear to be upset.

When i get upset, i take a deep breath through my nose and blow it out through a small pin hole in my mouth. It really helps.

Have a great day Sky Guy!!!!
What makes you think I’m upset? We are here to talk are we not? You can’t handle a little banter boomer?

Wale, you resorted to name calling and Grammar so that's usually a good indicator that someone is mad or their jimmies are rustled.

But what do i know. i've been wrong before.

Tell me what?. Im not saying we will win a game next year, Im not saying we will be KY like we did this year. All I am saying is Cal is not going to be relying on a bunch of freshmen. He wanted retention and got it. Transfers experienced.
That is all I have ever said on here. Surely you guys can see that is what he has done.

I live in the northeast but found this place on a trip back to Kentucky.

They have elite sandwiches, their pimento cheese is next level.

But the location is like going back to the 70s.

Im in wait and see mode. You may be right but it’s highly suspicious to me. I think it’s more likely he got caught with a few guys he thought was one and done and couldn’t get rid of them such as Wagner and Z. I’m not sure he is all in on what he says vs he was stuck with some guys more than a year. It hurts his sales pitch if he isn’t turning out NBA players every year so the whole I like older guys may or may not be true.

He could have pushed Knox,Billy,Wag and Brazille out if he had chosen to. He said from the gitgo retention was his goal. Im not sure Thiero is gone. he has been posting a bunch of hog stuff lately. We will see. But having 4-5 fresh in top 8-9 is not happening this coming year anyway. Dont suspect it will again.
