Boley looked good

I’d give him a handful of plays against Texas and UL.

I’d be shocked if we return both GW and BV. Just the nature of the new era. You’re not going to have QB rooms with multiple upper classmen anymore.

For the sake of his development and future as well as depth for next year the staff needs to play him not only the next two games but come up with some sort of Arch Manning plan to get him some run next season as well.

Vandergriff looked good against Southern Miss too. I wouldn’t put much into it. The bottom line is we have 3 horrible QBs on the roster.
The bottom line is we have a horrible offensive line and offensive line coach....and 1 horrible QB -wimsatt

He seems to find the open receivers better and gets rid of the ball quicker than BV. He also runs the option pretty well as he did a couple times yesterday. He might not fare as well against better defenses, but I’d give him the reins and prepare for next year.
I don’t think starting him at Texas in that environment would do him any favors. Only play him when that game gets out of hand and try to preserve his redshirt. There’s a very remote chance we could still get a bowl at 5-7 if there doesn’t end up being enough 6-6 teams. We’d obviously need to beat Louisville for that to be a chance, So I would avoid playing him against Texas if possible. Maybe give him more run against Louisville and see if he can win it for us.

Boley was at least able to come off the first read and go through the route tree. Thats an improvement over BV. Problem is, BV is tough as nails and can get some yards when the play goes bust (and that’s often with the horrid o-line). I’ve said it all year and will continue to bang the drum, Hamdan sucks. He’s done nothing to adjust his “system” to help BV and the offense. Literally no screen game. Continues to roll him left. Three and four options when BV is clearly one read and the line can’t hold long enough to get through the routes anyway. On drop backs he needs to have one read, a check down, and then get the hell out of dodge. Some simple RPO concepts and for the love of all things holy, implement a damned screen game. The offense, with the current “talent”, is never going to be great but could certainly be better. Hamadan hasn’t done a damn thing schematically to help that.

The bowl game, not that we're likely to get one, won't cost the redshirt. It doesn't count.

I know this was Murray St, but Boley had some nice zip and touch on his throws. His pocket awareness wasn't great, but the Oline failed a couple of times too. He's my QB2 going forward.
Stoops will go down the Titanic with bvg at the helm no kentuckians will tell him who to start sounds very reminisce of the cal years

Why is he a coward? That should be were he wants to start if he’s a football player. In fact, he should have been starting as a true freshman from day one. It’s the OL that needs fixing for UK to succeed not the QB. If we magically became the best OL in the country we would only run the ball more. Unless Stoops attitude leaves, it doesn’t matter who is our QB or what kind of line we have.

I realize we were “only” playing Murray State, but there is no question that Boley looked good.

His secret: he actually made “easy” throws of 5-15 yards look easy. He was under pressure at least twice, and flipped quick tosses or even under-handed passes to prevent a sack, and even gain a few yards.

And I was a tad surprised by his mobility. He looked comfortable running a little option . . . I found myself thinking, “heady play by Boley” a half-a-dozen times, where in the last 4 years I have seen our QB’s absorb losses that could have been avoided.

He's the best looking FR QB we've had in a long time.

A good trivia question: who was the last True Frosh to throw a TD pass at UK??

Jarod L. occurred to me, but he redshirted his True Frosh season, then prohibiting all play.

Is Couch the last True Frosh to complete a TD pass, (against U of L, August 31, 1996, 40 yard bomb to Issac Curtiss III in a 38-14 home loss.).

I think despite a couple of sacks when guys were unblocked he did as good as Brock in the pocket. He didn't rush to bail and took time to go through his progressions instead of locking onto a receiver and waiting so long for them to come open that he took a sack.

Anthony Brown -Stephen’s thinks Cutter is the best qb on the squad.
It is interesting that ABS has hardly gotten any targets all season, and then he breaks out for two TDs as soon as Boley gets some extended PT.

Looks like that's new this year, I wasn't aware of that. I do stand by my remarks that he shouldn't be thrown into a starting role at Texas in that environment. just play him once the game inevitably gets out of hand.

I noticed that Boley, when in the pocket against MS, stood flat-footed at times and brought the ball down around his waist. Why the coaches haven't corrected that is a mystery. But, do that against TX and UofL and we'll see multiple strip sacks. He looked good against a pitiful FCS team. That does NOT translate to success against the next two opponents. I'm not saying I didn't see some good things but you have to realize that the team we were playing Saturday was horribly overmatched and a very bad FCS team. Saturday was barely more than Blue/White Game 2.0 in my mind.

Woodson I know played as a true freshman, I was at the Auburn game he started that year. He threw 2 as a true freshman.

I remember the 2005 home game against Auburn. Big loss, but a lot of points. We went to Vandy and won a score-fest the next week, 48-43. I attended both games.

Woodson is shown as a 2003 recruit.

I think he redshirted in 2003, maybe played sparingly in 2004, and then started as a redshirt Sophomore in 2005. He did not leave early for the NFL, and his final season was 2007, so 2003 was his true frosh season, 2004 his redshirt freshman season, etc.

Lorenzen redshirted his true freshman season.

I think Boley is the first since Couch to do it as a true Freshman.

Towles against Miss State in 2012.

Edited to add that Jalen Whitlow also had three as a true freshman in 2012. Morgan Newton had a few in 2009. Don’t recall off the top of my head if Maxwell Smith was a true freshman in 2011 when he had a few as well.
