Bill Self blasts NCAA on Diallo situation

He's not the only one blasting the NCAA. Bilas blasts them every chance he gets and I've seen several ESPNU analysts do the same.
The NCAA is screwing this up in a big way. Make a dam decision. The kid should play. Who cares what happened in 6th grade.

Seriously. They've done Kansas plenty of favors by not digging any further than they did with MacLemore and Alexander.

Yeah it sucks that the kid has to pay but Self's outrage is hilarious to me because when it's someone else's players he's probably one of the ones screaming foul the loudest off the record.

This situation reminds me a lot of the Kanter stuff a few years back. Yes, the specifics are different, but they both boil down to: an international kid who is a solid student, but the NCAA is stuck in their fuddy-duddy ways. I hate Kansas, but I really hope Diallo gets to play just because it's the right thing. Besides, I don't want any excuses when we beat up on them later in the year.

I wish teams, coaches or schools would start playing the UNC card against the NCAA.I don't feel sorry for KU at all they have skated by in several previous situation in the past few years.I hope Self is so mad that he misplaces his hair over this.

I agree completely with what Self said in that article.

However, I seem to think there's another side to this story.
The same thought crossed my mind,I venture to say there is a Paul Harvey rest of the story here somewhere.Even the NCAA isn't this stupid or corrupt unless UK is involved.

He's right to be mad. Whatever you think of Self and Kansas, the NCAA being ridiculous and more people should be publicly calling them out.
Being ridiculous for not allowing someone to play that doesn't have the core classes to be eligible? How dare they follow the rules readily available for everyone to see that are easily attainable.

Because he does have his core classes. Read up a little. Catch up with the rest of the class.
No he doesn't, the NCAA isn't accepting many of the classes from Our Saviour Mew American, his bogus HS just like they did with Prime Prep. Why do you think he hasn't been cleared if he has his core classes? Lol Why do you think other OSNA players either haven't been cleared or had eligibility delayed? Is the NCAA just a big meanie? Lol....

And another thing, we were told by our moderators on both this House of Blue and on the 247 board well before he announced his college decision that Diallo was going to have issues getting cleared.

You're taking Self's word on his classes. There is also a question about his attendance. Kansas did an investigation and "concluded" he had attended at least 85% of his classes. I bet he is right on the edge.

Self and KU know that without Diallo, they are the same team as last season. Another first weekend loser. Self is getting negative press over recruiting sucking so far and mishandling minutes with players, leading to the blow up with Greene.
Diallo decision can impact Self's and KU's fortunes years down the road.

No way in hell the NCAA would have let UK and Calipari skirt the McLemore and Alexander situations without vacating games and penalties.
McLemore had a runner turn agent pay Ben's AAU coach 10k we know if to funnel to the family. Big birthday parties were paid for with many attending from Bens hometown. Expense paid. Airline tickets bought for BM and his uncle to LA. BM comped AFH tickets to runner/agent.
Alexander, ineligible. Family took a loan on future earnings.etc.
Self has got away with a lot, Kansas needs Diallo a helluva lot more than Diallo needs KU.

The NCAA was never going to allow Kanter to play. They weren't stuck on anything. He wasn't suiting up in college and most everyone around the school knew it was a long shot for him to get eligible. He was worth it though. They weren't losing anything if he wasn't and gained a hell available player if he somehow was granted eligibility.

NCAA is a joke - by the same standard, Little Brothel and UNC**** shouldn't even be fielding teams.
Be patient, they are going to get theirs, it takes time for these matters to play out, especially when you have 20 years of academic illegal benefits to sift through. There is a lot of red tape still left before the rulings are made.

I don't know enough about Diallo's situation to comment on it,but what irks me is the NCAA's inconsistent enforcement. They hammer Georgia under Jim Harrick for far less than what UNC has done for 60 years, yet they are still hem-hawing around over some bogus defense of the sickening corruption in Chapel Hill,If they don't hang Little Brothel by their stripper chasing nads,I'll start a drive to disband the corrupt NCAA and every school ever punished should be reimbursed for lost revenue from the selective enforcement

Weird and off base to even mention the two together.

Weird

Guilt or innocence is not the NCAA issue here. It's the process...and on that we all can agree is consistently more messed up than the IRS. And that's saying alot!

One of those internet rumor proved wrong.
http://www.kansascity.com/sports/college/big-12/university-of-kansas/article44828220.html

It is hardly an 'internet rumor.' It is something said by a lawyer directly involved in the case to the largest regional newspaper. And nothing I can find in a Google search indicates that the lawyer or the newspaper has changed or amended the statement.

For Diallo's sake, I'd like to see him play. But from Darrel Arthur to Ben McLemore to Cliff Alexander and on and on, Kansas is willing to look the other way and then hope it all works out. And the NCAA has been exceptionally 'flexible' in distributing after-the-fact wrist slaps to the Jayhawks. Maybe this is the moment KU gets held to the same standard as most programs.

Kansas and Self preaching about the poor African kid who came to America to chase his dreams angle and that they are doing what is in "his best interest" is pure bullsh*t. They are doing what is in their best interest. Self could care less otherwise. Diallo is still getting drafted and in fact could lose spots in the draft by playing. Diallo will reach his dreams, would KU spend close to or over 6 digits for your kid to reach theirs?
