Hate to feel compelled to post this...but this morning Jay Bilas tweeted:

Bilas is a smart dude. He's right on a lot of things when it comes to the NCAA. But he uses his enormous public platform as a spokesman for college basketball to defend powerful people and programs who have broken rules and acted unethically 100% of the time, and he uses popular outrage against the NCAA as his unspoken pretext.

Bilas is a one trick pony now. He obviously is very intelligent because his opinion now is so slighted now he would have to be an idiot to believe everything he says

The guy will defend every point anyone makes about unc like it's a game. It's as if he doesn't care if he's wrong or right and only wants to argue everything people say about unc. At this point, every single thing people accuse unc of, jay defends. So basically, according to jay, unc has done nothing wrong.....at all. That's pretty much what I gather from his opinions. It's as if unc is the victim being bullied by the big bad NCAA. Come on.

Does anyone remember the post on this message board a few months ago talking about Jay Bilas' relationship with someone at unc and how he was paid to give speeches at unc or by someone affiliated with unc? Doesn't mean there's anything wrong with that, but it seems as though it would be a conflict of interest as well.

I believe in calling it like it is and admit Jay was one of the best. He had me waiting for the day he rose to the top and a new era of covering the game looked bright. That said his taking the lead from Vitale couldn't have turned into a bigger disaster. He has become as fake, and controlled as anyone we have seen in the media. Like/hate Vitale but at least he kept some form of originality, Billas is nothing more than a puppet playing out someone's agenda.

Don't understand the point Bilas is making. Sankey says the 30 for 30 should have included something about the emphasis UK puts on the academics of its basketball players. He has also been critical of the academic scandal at UNC.

What is the supposed conflict?

Exactly. If UNCheat has nothing to hide as Jay seems to believe, what does it matter that Sankey is a big academics guy? If there is nothing to the charges, Sankey can't just make stuff up and hammer them. Bilas is the biggest fraud in CBB.

I'd like to see a link.

I don't think he's a puppet. But he is a lawyer, and it shows in the way he approaches a lot of things. He takes a position on something, and then he sticks to it 100%, evidence or argument to the contrary be damned. The wholesale lobbying for Duke as a 1 seed, and the way he wouldn't let it drop, was a great example, and with UNC he picked his side and is sticking with it.

He needs to realize that people don't want to listen to him play defense attorney on every subject, especially when there seems to be motivation for the argument beyond an objective opinion.

I mean Jay, everyone knows you played for and coached under Mike Krzyzewski at Duke. If you're going to spend 2 days vehemently arguing that Duke's 8 loss, 5th place ACC team deserves a 1 seed, guess what? People are going to think you're being a homer. At least admit that you might be a little biased.

What exactly is Sankey's power here? Is there a committee that makes a finding whether they committed violations and Sankey decides the punishment? Does he just recommend the punishment? Anyone know?

The conflict, they say, is that the Commish of another power conference will be a judge on UNC. Might have some credence but the most disturbing part is that Bilas and his ilk still think they did nothing wrong.

So, they are supposed to let the ACC be the judge, jury and executioner for one of their two huge cash cows? They've shown so much integrity in the past, I'm sure they would be completely impartial.

If it wasn't for my love of UK, I would've been done with college athletics awhile ago. It's just a joke. No one is willing to call out the BS and everyone wants to toe the company line and stay with the cash cow, ethics and morals be damned. People like Bilas defend UNC/ACC at every turn no matter what. Then you got Vitale saying UL shouldn't face any punishment and just pay a fine. Really? Fake classes and sex parties are all good nowadays, just don't let the NCAA know you gave a recruit an extra bagel and cream cheese.

The problem is that it has been this way since the committee's inception. Now it is a problem since UNC is the guilty party.

I guess I do not understand the issue here. Anyone care to elaborate.

So a kid from Beverly Hills, who goes to Duke, is a lawyer and works for network whose president is a UNC grad is a royal a-hole and we're surprised?

Can anyone name a telecast in last 5 years Bilas hasn't pushed an agenda of some sort instead of you know--calling the game? Be it rules, NCAA regulations, shots at NCAA, his thoughts of how the game should improve as if he's "Commissioner of CBB", and it's hard to hear the point because of the pompous manner he delivers the message. Don't disagree with a lot of his points, just don't care for his know it all delivery.

Anyone who defends UNC in this case is biased. It's academic fraud. Minnesota and Clem Haskins got caught and their program was destroyed--including the loss to UK in '97 Final Four. Then to interject the comment Sankey made which has no correlation whatsoever with what's going on at UNC. Agenda? lol

Also, very sanctimonious of Jay that his alma mater is about to get a commitment from a guard that had red flags all over the place but UNC got #6* so time to up the talent level to match them! If there is one example of what Bilas truly is--it was during this year's Selection Show when Cal took a fun jab at his "sermon" and Duke stuff and look how quickly he had to respond. Laughable. Guy tries to be "Cool" and Cal outed him as the dickhead he truly is. Can't hide what you are and he's been exposed. But hey--he did defend Cheick Diallo "injustice" when in reality Cheick had reading level of a 4th grader--but it fit his anti NCAA agenda--so low and behold time to pretend to fight the good fight--because you never know when Duke will need a PG bad enough they need to squirm through the rules with the rest of the "bad guys".

Stay Breezy BRA and Quit quoting Jeezy--you ain't that type, poser.

Jay Bilas lost my respect a long time ago. I know his niece and nephew attended UK. I respect them more than I do him.

There is no reason to believe that Sankey would be a biased judge in the case and it's pretty outrageous for them to even suggest that. Whatever someone thinks of Sankey he is a professional and you don't become SEC commissioner if you are going to obviously be petty and lack objectivity in a huge case in the spotlight. This is posturing and attacking somebody to try and control a narrative.

Bilas will almost for sure guest-host the KSR show again this year when Matt goes on vacation. I hope no UK fans challenge him on this because he is a lawyer who will be able to out-argue the average UK fan on this issue, even though he's so wrong about it. Lawyers have to be very skilled at debating an issue, even if they don't believe it.

A conflict has always been there, not sure why it's an issue now. Miami's AD, where there was rampant cheating, sat in judgment of USC's football case. USC's chief rival, Notre Dame, also had a seat at the table. I don't remember any tweets about the unfairness then. Bilas can stfu.

Bilas seems to have fallen into the same pit that Vitale is in. They both love coaches and flip out when the coaches face any sort of sanctions or even public opprobrium. Clearly Jay loves Roy Williams and doesn't want to see him punished. Vitale defends UL because he worships Rick Pitino.
