Better Call Saul

Fantastic show. Love seeing Michael McKean get a big role on this show. I knew I was going to like this but I am very excited about what I've seen so far. Loved seeing some old faces on the new show.

This show is either gonna be the GOAT...and by that I mean the greatest spin-off show of all time...or it is going to be outstanding for a season or 2 and then flame out quickly.

Either way it shall be a glorious ride.

BTW...That bargaining scene in the desert was priceless. Saul at his absolute best. Negotiating for two broken legs instead of death. "Now that's one broken leg each...a total of two broken legs."

You just don't get that sort of response from fictional creativity that often, where the masses are compelled with some urgency to express what it meant to them. Only the greatest works of literature do this, some movies, and the television series Breaking Bad.

There are too many out there suffering from BB withdrawals. Saul is therapy.

It's pretty damn good. I just hope that there isn't too much BB character crossover,as it will feel like a greatest hits album.

Look, I like the show a lot. I thought that scene was great. But, you laughed so hard you almost broke a rib, and you had to pause the show and walk around for 25 minutes to catch your breath?

How are we supposed to react to that? It's either nonsense, or you're a maniac. No middle ground.

I will confess that that particular scene did hit home on a personal level, so I am sure my reaction was atypical. I swear I caught myself laughing about that scene at various points over 3 days. It was the funniest thing I have seen on TV in a long time----which may be an indictment on my sense of humor or maybe I need to get out of the house more. I don't know. Just the right scene that hit me at the right time, I guess.

Hellaofa Start...really enjoyed seeing Tuco and his abuelita back, small world huh? MF is crazy as hell and is a great character, I hope they cont. with that story line and keep him and his crew on the show for a while, I mean we know he doesn't die until he meets Walt, so...

- did the 2 broken legged skaterats remind anybody else of Napoleon Dynamite?

- I read an article w/ Gilligan where he said he had 2 ideas 1) Saul and 2) a Gus prequel. Both sound incredible and I am just happy to be back in the BrBa universe so quick after it ended.

- Intelligent planning AMC.

I am curious as to how he is going to build the character of Mike from a parking lot attendant to what he becomes later on with Gus. Be interesting to see if he becomes a regular character or just has a cameo now and then as a nod to BB.

Loving the show so far and was surprised to see Tuco emerging as a storyline this early in the show. Of all the characters from BB he is one of the ones I least expected to transition over to Better Call Saul.

That's what makes this show so fun Altro...I'm not sure if that is even Mike do you?

Maybe its just a guest spot and that's it? In return for killing one of the coolest/best/finest characters on TV ever.

That is absolutely, 100% Mike. He will be a series regular. If you remember, he is a disgraced former police officer who then took on a gig as a PI and then later a hitman.

Most logical explanation is he gave up that lifestyle and has taken on a menial job as a parking attendant to be closer to his granddaughter. Throughout the series Saul probably draws him back into the game as he himself gets deeper and deeper into it. That's where the connection comes in

Granddaughter has got to be about 2 or maybe a newborn then. Check he rips up from the firm is dated 2002. The disgraced component comes into play pretty strong from the beginning - unsympathetic for Jimmy's sticker issues, consistently so.

Anybody read or heard if Hank is going to be on the show?

His character seems to me to be real easy to write into the show, just have him investigating or arresting some chump that Saul is defending or something of that nature.

I really hope it is Mike and I hope we get to see him become Mike again like he was in BB. I really hated the episode when he died, seemed to be a universally liked character. Mike also opens up the door to a lot of other characters to enter such as Gus.

Jonathan Banks gets second billing on the show behind Odenkirk. It's not a cameo.

Not this season.

And on Mike, yes it is Mike..,to that one poster. He may or may not be more than a parking lot attendant at this point in his career/life. He has barely been in either episode, yet he was great in both of them. "Thank you for restoring my faith in the judicial system."
laugh.r191677.gif
He just delivers that line so perfect, oh so Mike like.

I am happy to hear that you all think that Mike is back.

NOW, why would he playing the role of a parking-lot attendant? He left the police force and THEN immediately became a PI I thought?

UNLESS, he must be there on some other type of business, in another role, then.

Things are def. looking interesting...

Surprised that they're doing this show on Mondays instead of Sundays. Can't believe that they're not using TWD as a lead-in.

This show works exactly like Breaking Bad. Have some sort of flashback/flashforward attention grabber, and always end with a bang. And it does exactly that... Wonder what ole Jimmy did to get the charges of a sex offender... Obviously we are going back down that road in the future. But love how they give us snippets as the season rolls on, keeping you engaged and wondering.

Really hope we see when Saul convinced a girl he's Kevin Costner that he talked about in Breaking Bad.

I thought the same thing initially. Then I learned that Talking Dead reels in huge ratings. I guess it wouldn't make sense to cannibalize their own ratings. Especially considering its very likely anyone who watches the show, will likely watch it regardless of its time/day slot.

after watching last episode, can safely say this is gonna be a huge hit. The money shot at the end, literally, was gold. Still interested to see how he becomes Saul Goodman

Can you imagine if the shot had been figuratively gold?

I think whatever Jimmy did, he is obviously indebted to his brother in a huge way which to me is why he is now basically watching over him. I'm not exactly certain what his brothers ailment is, but I'm banking on some sort of schizophrenia or mental illness, he doesn't appear to be immobile or anything, I'm sure we will find out the roots of the illness in bits and pieces as the season wears on, either way, Jimmy seems to know that there isn't going to be a recovery so that's why he's trying to work that buyout angle, and he obviously isn't out to pilfer his brother or else he wouldn't have torn up the 26K check (made out to him no less) amidst his mounting debt. My guess is that check was bait to see if he would turn on his brother.

Wow...I missed that. Did Jimmy finally hook up with that chick from his brother's firm? And how can they show a money shot on regular TV?

Another good episode. This is going to be an outstanding season. Was expecting a letdown on this series because of all the hype and because my expectations were so high...but it has definitely delivered thus far.

We already know. It was him not capping the wife beater, back when he was a beat cop.

He he let the guy live and then 2 weeks later, the guy bashed his wife to death with a blender.

Ah. Your memory is definitely better than mine. And a good indicator that I need to watch BB again, start to finish.

Thanks for the recap Clown, I had forgotten the details of that. This show looks like the real deal. Acting by Saul and Mike is off the charts. Looking forward to seeing how all of this shakes out for Saul.

I was thinking about this a bit. There has to be some kind of finite timeline for this show, right? Let's say the show is wildly successful and just keeps extending on and on. Is it possible, hypothetically that they could go parallel timeline with Breaking Bad?

I wondered that too. Would they parallel with breaking bad? Focus on his current life? Mixture of both? Or will the show end with Walt walking into the office for the first time?

Seeing how Gilligan chose to end BB as it was getting it's highest ratings ever I doubt this show goes past 4 or 5 seasons no matter how good it is or what the ratings are.

Can't really name anything on TV better right now. I was iffy on this series, I thought Saul was a bit too one note to really carry a show. It's looking like I was wrong, though I still wonder if it has a good 5 seasons in it. I could easily see 3 masterful seasons. In Vince we trust I guess.

And I don't know why I didn't expect this, but it is shot beautifully... as good if not better than Breaking Bad. Truly spectacular.

I think it would be cool if it paralleled with BB but just on the fringes. Like you only see Walt walking out of Saul's office from time to time but the episode is about whatever else Saul is working on. You would be able to follow the timeline based on Walt's appearance and his attitude. Think about some of his meetings with Saul in BB and you can see what I mean.

I think brief cameos from Walt would be best. That...and some cameos of Walt Jr eating cereal.

Yeah as much as I like the idea of the parallel timeline, I'm hoping BCS doesn't lean too much on the gratuitous cameos. I fee the same way about lame prequels where we see a character and the whole idea of it seems to be self-obsessed to me.

"Acting by Saul and mike is off the charts"

I mean they have done a great job but how the hell can you even say that about the actor that plays Mike? He's been on the screen for maybe 4 total minutes. I really am enjoying the show but some of yall act like it's the greatest show of all time three episodes in.

Hahaha, agree. I've enjoyed it to a certain extent, but I can probably name 10 shows off the top of my head that had a better opening three shows. It's been good not great, in my opinion.

The show has grabbed me already and I'm loving it.

However, something I can see myself getting tired of - Jimmy/Saul's constant squirming when he's yet again in a position of risk of bodily harm or death. I know it's part of making him who he becomes, but for now it's pretty much the majority of his persona - the flashback to his brother getting him out of jail (I assume the "I'll do whatever you want if you help me out of this" was "go to school...be a laywer, I'll pay for it") and his whining there, the Tuco whining, Nacho whining, and then the whining with Mike the parking attendant.

It's not rubbed me the wrong way yet, but it is something that I hope to see less of, much like the evolution of Walt throughout BB.

But please, please don't insert a character like Skyler or Walt Jr - they never changed and were annoying as hell the entire series.

Vince Gilligan should be convicted of selling drugs. His television work is better than cocaine from Escobar
