Barrett Duke visit

Ha, ha, you're safe from Capel unless you look like a donut.

There are plenty of hot chicks at Duke.

Hahaha. Duke is a great school for a basketball player to go to for many reasons. This is NOT one of them.

And let's not think that Duke isn't 'paying' their players via their students. Find a student with alumni parents, have him become lab partners then friends with an athlete. Funnel money to the athlete via his friend. That happens ALL THE TIME at Duke.

Yeah - like Okafor's infamous rich kid roommate.

I do think Duke has appeal for certain types of kid's and parents. There are kids like Carter and Tatum from very ambitious and upwardly mobile families who I think see going to Duke and hanging with rich kids, along with Duke's prestigious rep, as a sign that they've made it, or confers some kind of upper class status on them. Absolutely nothing wrong with that - and usually kids like that are still great kids.

But kids who find all that appealing can also tend to be spoiled, selfish, cocky, not particularly fond of hard work, or possessing of a certain sense of entitlement - general douchbaggery - and Duke has had their fair share of those as well. Many would say one or more of those adjectives pretty much sum up the prototypical hateable Duke player.

Kids who come to UK tend to be more regular kids, who want hang around with other regular kids in a school populated by regular kids. Under Cal, I think the adjective that most sums up the kids he has recruited is hard-working. Cal has made sure that kids who come here know they are goin to work hard, and they can't be afraid of competition. Those traits serve kids very well in the NBA, and is one reason I think our guys do so well.

Duke appeals to the pretentious, entitled kids whose parents know their social stature will be elevated by their child attending Duke.

K and Capel don't have to "negative recruit"......they've got plenty of positive things.....5 rings, acc banners, olympic gold.. top draft picks, NBA all stars.......what's not to like?
Maybe recruiting against other programs

Wrong, that's exactly what they do in head to head recruiting battles against Kentucky. We are the gold standard of college basketball. Cal is the greatest college basketball recruiter to ever coach the game. Cal is the originator of one and done. The only way Duke can out recruit Cal is with negative recruiting, example just ask Marquis Bolden's mom.

Good points but that's a whole lot of assumptions...

It's a good thing recruits don't pick schools bygone looking women or Arizona would be ranked top 3 every year year with a lot of number one rankings. UCLA, UNC and Howard university would be up there as well

From what I've heard , Duke basketball players get their ho's up the road in Chapel Hill. It's a thing to have a blonde wearing UNC stuff hanging on your arm on Dukes campus.

Well that shoots down the theory that ul was only asked to join the ACC to furnish the 'ho's.
