Barker's best cant be as bad as Towles worst.

I'm not a "pro-Pat" or pro anyone...I'm a pro-team guy.
I know if a better option existed, it would be used. I know if fans knew as much as they thought they knew, they would all be getting paid to coach.

What would the "anti-Pat" guys say if the change was made and that option proved to be not as effective as Pat has been?
So you've never seen a time when the backup quarterback has come into a game because the starter was struggling or injured and gave the offense a spark it didn't have ? You must not watch much Ky football because it's happened to us about a thousand times . But the backup couldn't be better that night because the coaches are smart and didn't pick him as the starter . Good grief .

First, nobody said football coaches can never be wrong. That's nonsense. You are just bloviating since you don't have a valid point to make. Bill Curry's decision to play Billy Jack Haskins ahead of Tim Couch was part of the reason Curry was fired. It has been widely reported, and there is no doubt that CM Newton knew Couch would transfer if Curry wasn't sacked. So are you advocating that Stoops should be sacked? If you aren't, then you have gotten lost in your own confused rhetoric. And if you are, then defend it. No Kentucky coach in 30 years has recruited like Stoops is recruiting. Looking at the high quality of Stoops' recruiting, any reasonable person will want to give him time to develop these players. The people who question Stoops' development of Towles never mention Dupree, Za'Darius, Forrest, Lewis, Stamps, Boom, Badet, Juice, Toth, all of whom have become great players on Stoops' watch. Even Jo Jo, Henderson, and Huguenin have made enormous strides. Stoops is getting it done. Get on the bus with Stoops or else cheer for UL. Oh, wait.
Great Post !!!

This is not the week to be changing starting QBs. Missouri might have the best defense we face all year and we can ill afford any turnovers against them since their offense and QB are so terrible. I'd ride it out with Towles one more week (heck, he's "due" a good game at this point), pick up the W, and then name Barker the starter for the EKU game. That way we essentially have 3 weeks to get Barker ready for Auburn. However, Reese Phillips might actually be the best QB option. He can throw 5 to 10 yard passes on the money 90% of the time with his eyes closed.

You seem a little confused. Ill make this a little simpler for you.

1. you insinuated that because im not a football coach that I shouldn't have an opinion on Towles being benched.

2. You insinuated that the coaches know best.

3. You insinuated that if Stoops is making the wrong choice about his starting QB, that im somehow advocating him being fired.

I responded that unfortunately coaches don't always make the right decision, then provided proof of that fact.

I never said I wanted Stoops fired. Im not sure where you got that from....other than you were deflecting from the FACT that a major winning coach made a boneheaded decision about his starting QB. Something I believe our current coach is also doing.

If thats too hard for you to follow you obviously don't need to be using a computer or trying to breathe on your own. Its complicated work afterall :)

You can continue to nuthug Towles all you want. The fact is, he's not a quarterback that going to get us many wins in the SEC. All you have to do is look at his record.

I would say, we are building for the the future.

A QB needs time to throw. Saturday Patrick did not have it. It is not ALWAYS the QB that is the issue. Blocking and catching are a must to have a winning football team

Yeah it sucked when Towles dropped that perfect pass in the end zone in the first quarter.
Or when 2 weeks in a row he threw INTs that set up the other team's scoring on his opening drive. Look the guy has been horribly inaccurate. He's barely completing 50% of his throws as a starter and has twice as many INTs as TDs in his last 9 games. How many QBs keep their job while throwing more INTs than TDs at all. Let alone throwing twice as many INTs. Blaming receivers for dropping passes is one thing but that still doesn't answer why our QB is as bad as he is. No matter what it takes the struggles at QB have to stop now.

"A thousand times", really? Have people really not learned from the last time. No matter how incompetent you feel like the coach is, chances are he knows better than you. If that's not the case then he should be fired.

He wasn't put in a very good position last night, but it's getting to the point that I feel like it's safe to say he is what he is, and he's at least part of the reason for why we play the way we do. At the same time, I don't get why it's hard to believe a true freshman would struggle even more, especially when thrown into a less than optimal situation like this.

You can only play with the players on your team. The coaches see Pat, Drew and every other QB on the roster throw the ball every day. Perhaps there isn't an accurate QB on the team?
Some fans are never going to be happy unless we win. When Mike Hartline was QB fans bitched that he couldn't throw the ball downfield and we needed Morgan Newton to be the QB...then fans got to see Morgan Newton at QB. Then they needed to see Max, they need to see... always want to see the next guy. Coaching staffs change and the new staff picks the same QBs as the old staff...maybe, just maybe when you see the same players in practice daily it becomes easy to identify which one is better. Is it possible???

Mossakowski had a shoulder injury in high school that ruined him. He may have been a great quarterback had he never injured his shoulder.
That didn't stop fans for calling for him to play...after they had called for Morgan Newton to play...after they...

As one of the above posters said, "It's all speculation until he gets snaps." You know what he gets snaps in practice and if he isn't proving it there then what makes us think live game action is going to dramatically make him better than PT? The coaches know best.

I agree. Coaches aren't going to throw the players under the bus so they'll never say publicly that Moss' shoulder is spaghetti. The fans don't know anything other than the 4-star QB is riding the pine while the starter is struggling.

I think the fans see the struggle and want it fixed. The unknown (to the fans, anyway) is worth a shot rather than the failing happening on the field. I certainly get frustrated seeing it and when you're emotionally invested in the team, it's easy to let your emotions get the better of you.

With two days to cool off, I will say I trust our coaches and believe they have their good reasons for not making some changes. There are a lot of good players on this team, the program is heading in the right direction and the youthful mistakes will get fixed. This team will be a lot better by the end of the year. The defense has been a pleasant surprise and Boom has all the makings of an All-American. Towles may not be the long-term solution, but the coaches will solve that problem (and the offensive tackle problem) as soon as they can. It could be that Gunnar is the best fit for This offense and we won't see it properly executed until he arrives on campus. Maybe the coaches don't want to see Barker get physically abused by SEC defensive tackles and ends. It could be a lot of things. It's disappointing for sure, but the coaches and the QB (and tackles) have to be even more disappointed.

Don't worry. The way the o-line is blocking, Patrick is going to get dinged up in the next few games. Sometimes other teams have better players. I worked with a great offensive coach who once told me every now and then you run in to a defense you can't do anything with consistently because they have better athletes at key positions. You can win some of the battles and you hope you can surprise them enough to win. That happened Sat. with Florida's ends and CB's

Love his comments. That tells me all I need to know. This team/program is in great hands.

Agree. I was frustrated Saturday and Sunday, but am very happy to hear this. The coaches aren't dummies. I just have to remind myself in the heat of the moment that the coaches know what they're doing.
