Bagley already officially CLEARED by NCAA

Tempted to make another topic on this as it's kind of an aside.

but should Cal/Sandy/Mitch start loosening the recruiting restrictions? I think we all would agree earlier on that Cal/UK shouldn't even sniff a recruit if he has any signs of trouble, and we've done a great job at that. Kentucky has been the cleanest blue-blood since Cal has been here.

But it does seem the NCAA is being a little loose with eligibility lately. I know some will say, "Well, it's Duke", and I would agree 110%, but do we maybe start taking a few leaps? If we're starting to (potentially) lose the recruiting battle to Duke, do we make some changes? It's not like Cal is perceived in any better light over the past 8 seasons..

I find it hilarious when rival fans make fun of kentuckians for nothing more than living in rural areas....... so I think to myself, I live in St. Louis.... and the massive odds are that STL is a bigger city than where these duke fans live..... so does that give me the right to trash them like retarded ants ??? I mean by their logic it would right?

The typical Duke parent.

I would say it's less of the NCAA being looser and more of players/parents/handlers have figured out how to meet the requirements. As far as I know the NCAAs eligibility requirements haven't changed lately so I'm not sure what would constitute as them loosening up.

My guess is there are enough online/non-traditional classes out there now and enough players have been through it that there's a pretty reasonable blueprint to what a player needs to get eligible. As long as the player has someone who knows what it takes guiding them it's not that hard.

I gotta ask; anyone remember the last basketball player that could not get into Duke under K?

I did a brief review and apparently there isn't a recruit that would not qualify that K could not get in school.

When you choose someone other than Duke, really isn't it because K didn't think he could get you qualified?

I'm sure someone can find one recruit, right?

Duke only requires NCAA minimum. Applications for entrance into Duke are reviewed by a committee and that committee makes the determination on who gains admittance based on whatever criteria they want to use. I am thinking one of the criteria is "Are you really good at basketball?"

Notice how any talk of Duke or UNC's great academics by the sports talking heads has disappeared. I guess your generic fan lives with the illusion that Duke and UNC are some bastions of academia for their ball players. Being a sheep is easy.

who knows what all goes on in getting a recruit in for ANY school....i'm sure it's an impermissible benefit (lol)......regardless, if you think duke isn't highly regarded in academia, you've only been paying attention to sports....

You people have heard of twitter, right?

Not what it says here.

From the article:

"If you're curious as to how someone could decide to reclassify and make up a year's worth of schoolwork over the course of a 3-4 months, Bagley's father has spoken publicly on a couple of occasions about how his son's path was always going to track this way. The endgame was getting Bagley eligible for the 2018 Draft, college eligibility be damned. But because Duke was in early when it came to recruiting Bagley as a 2017 prospect, the family and Duke worked carefully and quickly in order to get Bagley's coursework finished."

I know that doesn't fit your narrative, but . . .

I just wonder what BBN would be saying had Bagley committed to UK. Perhaps, just perhaps, the kid did the work and his family kept him focused and organized. Regardless, there has not been anything close to the Bledsoe situation and the changing of grades - which is what led to Thamel digging into what has transpired.
The BBN would be saying, "damn, it sure would be nice if the NCAA would clear him to play for UK." Dude would be on the bench in street clothes the entire season had he come to UK. Bet on it.
