I'm sure the Portis tweet has been discussed ad nausem

But the replies of the Arkansas faithful really irked me. Over and over: You're a legend here Bob. You'd just be another face in the crowd at Kentucky.

I can't respond individually, so I figured I'd go on a tirade here.

First and foremost, they're ALL legends at Kentucky. Fans are nuts for players on and off campus. 3 Years later, and we're still talking about Doron Lamb's sock game. People are STILL trying to convince the masses that Darius Miller or Marquis Teague REALLY won the title. When Ohio State rolls around, you can bet your @$$ all the talk is going to be about Brandon Knight burying them, and Josh Harrelson teaching them dodgeball.

Second--your legend...You won a game in the NCAA tournament. One. No titles. No final fours. 1 NCAA tournament win qualifies you for the title. That's like telling the first girl that let you get to second base that you love her. Have some respect for the word. Malik Monk does. That's why he's coming to earn the title. Legends at Kentucky play in Final 4's.

Lastly, if we DID have "just another face," Those guys are in the NBA. How about a guy like Archie Goodwin? He's a 6'5 guard, averaging more rebounds than Portis right now. But, that's just just another face in the crowd at Kentucky. Can you imagine the most legendary? John Wall, Anthony Davis, Demarcus Cousins...those guys are NBA stars. They don't play 10 minutes a game. That's why you didn't get Malik Monk.

I really don't have a problem with him having pride in his school and arky fans loving him..he is home grown. But to his tweet...we didn't recruit him, we recruited Julius Randle. Sorry Bob.

Pretty sure a lot of posters on here said the same thing about Damien Harris this past year.

To be fair, it's a little different of an argument in football. He'd have been the face of the team at UK, while at Bama, he's one of 80+ guys. Not saying he can't stand out and do great there - but in terms of being remembered forever like the Arkansas fans are saying, it's tough to do when you have a roster that big filled with former All Americans.

With basketball, it's a bit harder to be overlooked, since you only have 10-12 guys on scholarship per year.

But even still I was shouting down the UK fans who wanted to bash Damien - it's poor form regardless.

I think it's comical how these people have reacted.

I'm really excited we got Monk and I'm damn sure he's not going to be "another face in the crowd".

The former UK guys are just another face in the crowd. It's true.

Except "the crowd" is amongst some of the world's richest individuals under the age of 25. I think Monk preferred that (and winning) over being verbally revered by the cashier the next time he went to the Fayetteville Piggly Wiggly.

Is he the guy who run his mouth when he got gut stomped by UK last year?

On this site last night there was mention of Arkansas losing early in the second half against Akron. Later I wondered what the outcome was and went to ESPN, USA Today, and couldn't find anything about the game. There were articles and highlights about other major teams such as UNC's game last night, and of course a recap of Kentucky/Duke, but zero about the Arkansas game or score. So, I then had to specifically search for this game through Google to learn that Arkansas lost.

My point is Kentucky basketball is all over the news, internet, television, and Arkansas is non existent. That is why Monk is coming to Kentucky. Arkansas fans need to get into reality. Kentucky is a major Elite program and Arkansas isn't. If Monk went to Arkansas, I am sure he would have had a good season with a marginal team, not get to ever play in the NCAA tourney, and no one know the first thing about him other than the Arkansas fans and one or maybe two games that they would get featured nationally on t.v. (and probably that would be when they played Kentucky).

That's okay.

One of the biggest misconceptions of the current UK era is that we don't remember our players. It's crazy. People just don't realize how many NBA fans this era of UK players has produced and just how active these guys are still with UK and in Lexington.

I don't feel the need to jump in and defend the OAD model and all that jazz, because it's the system we have. However, when people make the generalization that UK players just use the school and they don't care at all, it's a joke. It's actually the opposite. I see more of a close-knit bond and family-like atmosphere between former UK players than I do with almost any other place.

Monk picking Arky would be like turning American Pharoah over to Poncho the stall shoveler instead of Bob Baffert.

Think about this. I have told all my Ark fans last year that Portis would not have even started on our team and he was SEC POY. He would not have started over Lyle, KAT, WCS. They can't understand how much better we were.

Read it and weep hawgs...seriously have to be told why no elite
recruit wants to play for hot garbage. :flush:

btw - I'm wondering; has BP been back to support his school, his coach's basketball camps, built a Razorback basketball court in his yard, - given money to charity, or in any way, shape or form represented Arkansas in a favorable way?

There are apparently quite a few bad apple's in those barrels they have down in Arkansas. I'm not surprised their disappointed, but some have taken it too far for sure. But let's think about the situation reversed. A kid from say Lexington who's a 5 star, top 10 recruit signs with Arkansas, or any other school. I fear a few UK fans would act the same way. I think the kid who went to Alabama to play football took some grief from a few fans. As for me, well I've already forgotten his name. I'm sure that wouldn't be the case if he signed with UK.

while it was no where near as nasty - what about Malik Newman? Granted, he wasn't from Kentucky, but I recall several of our fans getting rather rude about his choice.
