Archie Miller says

They've asked for the series to be in Indianapolis since knight. We offer that and they say no for publicity. It backfired on them and Archie just has to deal with that. He needs kentucky, it's not the other way around.

Screw it, don't even consider it

IU is what needs to be reignited. It's not worth UK's time to play them, Kentucky can have their pick of who they want to play. Indiana brings nothing to the table as a has been program.
This. It's a no win game for UK and a program redefining game for IU. It's the kind of game where, if you win, it was expected. But if you lose, well, the floor is rushed, your players are stomped, your fans are cursed, the crowd chants F*@! Kentucky, they make paintings, they put it on popcorn boxes, and ESPN replays it every chance they get. Why would UK want any of that?

I sure sent hell hope not. They need us, we don't need them.

I'm already starting to dislike Archie , if only bc he's an IU coach now and their fans are so absurd and ridiculous (soo many of them actually thought they had a chance at brad Stevens as their new coach )lol

I'm 23 years old and As I grew up a UK fan I always watched the IU v UK game and just thought it was another game on our schedule it wasn't until I started posting on message boards that I found out at one point they were a blue blood, because in my life I had never really seen them win anything.

Indiana was good and was gonna make the tournament right? Nope dumb posters on this board claimed Indiana was good, I still demand to know the poster that bet me Indiana would make the tournament.

Come out and own it loser.

I'd be welcome to a neutral site game that rotates between the YUM Center and Indy, but strongly doubt that could ever be arranged. Cal wants to play his non conference games in tournament like arenas to prepare, not true road games.

As we have seen in the SEC, playing road games only turns the team you're playing into the GS Warriors and hurts your seeding if they pull it off after losing to Missouri, Vanderbilt, and Texas AM in the following games.

Losing at Tennessee cost us a 1 seed just this last season....

It has potential to be the most high profile game on our schedule. It's a series that needs renewed. There is an organic vitriol between the schools and states that creates great theatre.

I would LOVE it. I wish we had more rivalry games, and at the very least games to get excited for in the non-conference.

A lot of you say "we don't need them." Well, ok we don't.

But we also don't need Stephen F Austin, Canisius, Cleveland St, Duquesne, UTM.

We don't have to "need" a team to play them.

Also, IU was very good in the early season. They beat Kansas and UNC. They had some injuries and some bad breaks.

We agreed before to play them on our terms, so why not now? Some foolish sense of hubris that we don't "need" you.

I read insidethehall all the time and their list possible replacements was ridiculous and why was even better. The rational fans said we get dane fife or maybe a guy like miller because of our history. The irrational posters, about 85%, were convinced that if a back door deal was out of the equation for Stevens even the day of the miller hire... wouldn't you know it duh duh duh Billy D was in Bloomington and his wife picked out a farm.

To add about 10% wanted and werw convinced they were getting chris mack who I could have seen. To be fair he had the support just fans couldn't get past the allure of Stevens and Donovan.

I could see that really as a kid I was watching 1993 where we had come.back from death and they were final four. It was a big deal in southern indiana with split houses. Mine was all UK but where I usially watched was Grandma of my friend and she was IU so upstairs was all Red. GRANDPA was blue to the core and downstairs was like UK heaven with a big blue christmas tree up every game. It was awesome because I got to glaot the majority of the time and when we beat them if they were great was like Christmas.

Hahaha

The behavior of IU fans was ludicrous and ended up being dangerous for some of the UK players. Miller, in particular. The treatment given to UK fans around Bloomington before, during and after the game by IU fans bordered on animalistic and should never have been allowed or accepted. The F@^$ Kentucky chants were never addressed by the IU coach, AD, or anyone else of any authority in the building. Little kids and elderly UK fans were spit on in the arena, IU fans surrounded UK fans at tables in restaurants and cussed and threatened them as they tried to eat, UK cars had rocks thrown at them as they drove down streets in Bloomington. Those are just a few examples of the known behavior shown by IU fans. Sure, we want to renew a series with those animals, right? Yet, Vitale and other media types never addressed those things or the fact that Cal offered a series at neutral sites which IU turned down. The media just came at UK as the bad guys, unbelievable. I say absolutely NO to renewing a series with them.

I think the point is whenever they play a blueblood like uk, on the national stage, it only helps them in their effort to regain relevance, publicizing their brand and aiding their recruiting. screw 'em, let's start a rivalry with somebody else.

Same with ucla, i hated it when we started playing them, the team we are chasing for most nc's.

UK gains nothing by renewing the iu game. Why should UK support iu in their efforts to become a real college basketball team again. As far as I am concerned I hope we never play them again.
The fact of the matter is that UK and IU have never stopped negotiating about a renewal. Both schools have their negotiating positions, and both will have to compromise. There will eventually be an agreement because of big TV money. This isn't about Archie Miller, and it isn't about emotion. When it happens, it will be a major TV event. My guess is that the deal will be struck as soon as IU agrees to play the game entirely on neutral courts.

Play in Indy and Louisville. No way we should ever step foot in that field house again after that last game.

And since Jurich won't let use the Yum Center, then Louisville is out.

Sorry about your luck IU. Go kiss a pig.

Is there another school that has sooo many other schools that call them "rival"? We play uofl, unc, duke, ku, iu, ucla, msu and it's never enough for us or them. Who else is in such demand and has to play this demanding type schedule early each year?

The emotional reactions on this thread are predictable. But TV money, not emotions, will drive renewal of the UK-IU basketball series.

I wish I could give this 100 likes!

Wouldn't mind playing them in Indy.

There are usually some big recruits in Indy. It doesn't hurt to be able to tell them that they get to play a game at home if they come here. Nice little recruiting morsel to throw their way.

Other than that, the IU game is completely worthless to UK.

We've got two big neutral site games in the early season already (Champions, CBS Sports) and the home and home with UofL, so it's not like we are in need of another big marquee type matchup.

I can see why IU wants to play us, though.

Crean screwed them over by demanding a home and home.

I just wonder if Cal throws Miller a bone and plays them in Indy?

If we agreed to play @ IU strictly to seal the deal with Romeo Langford, I'd be all for it next season, though. Ha ha.

Wouldn't play them at Assembly Hall, no way.

But a game in Indy would not be a bad idea.

But I think I would play ND, Butler, or Purdue if I wanted a local team.

The better move would be to play another big program from outside the state of Indiana.

Why give IU a boost to their program?

As for Langford, Lexington isn't very far from his hometown and we play @UofL, so his family will have tons of opportunities to see him play if he comes here.
