Brad White and Matt House are two of the best defensive coordinators ever at UK. Coach White's defense couldn't stop them last year and Coach House (LSU) couldn't stop them this year. Can Cats effectively gameplan or does it boil down to matchups? I'm hoping those of you who have football knowledge can give me reasons to think it can be done.

Do what we have been doing all season.
UK #14 in passing yards allowed.
UK #14 in total defense.

UT loves to throw the football; UK limits passing yds. Just ask Will “Buck” Rogers of Miss. St.

Long drives on offense. Have to convert in the red zone. Minimize drive killing penalties.

Don’t sit back in a soft zone all day. Disguise/mix up blitzes and hopefully force a couple of turnovers. Probably will have to put corners on islands at times and hope they can perform in order to bring pressure on Hooker. Have to win turnover battle (probably need to be +2 to have a shot).

It’s not going to be easy.

I want to believe you but Bama is #16 in overall defense and LSU is #30. Didn't seem to matter.
We have different schemes than both and Bama shot themselves in the foot all day with a school record 20 penalties.
We have the revenge factor and the Vols are our arch rivals. We will have had 2 weeks to prepare and get healthy as well and are coming off our 2nd best win o the season and CRod has hit 2nd or 3rd gear now after the 4 gm suspension.

UK dominated time of possession last year 46 min to 13 min. We couldn't defend against their receivers. Are we better this year?

In sure TN has their own revenge factor after what happened in Knoxville 2 years ago.

Offense has to help the defense this week. Long drives, burn clock and score points. Defense can’t allow quick points and limit possessions. Last year they scored all their points in like 7 mins. Best defense this week is going to consist of cox, burton, and manning in front of Crod.

I think TN will move the ball pretty easily between the 20’s. The key will be making them settle for FG’s. Keeping them to 2 TD’s would be a great recipe for a win and possibly even 3 if we can turn them over 2-3 times. Have to be able to move the ball on the ground as well and have 5-6 minute (or more) scoring drives. Not an easy task but can be done. Will need to play a complete game. Can’t lay an egg for a half in this game or it will be over.

Yeah, gotta have some long drives and keep their offense off the field. White will play a soft zone and keep everything in front of us hoping to make them drive and hoping for a turnover or two. You’re not going to stop their offense, just hope you can slow it down enough to give yourself a shot.

Let them play fast, only to increase the chance of an interception. I don't believe they play fast just because the clock is ticking....its to catch us not ready to make plays.

It’s fast to stress communication and make coverages have to be simple. People thinks it’s about fatiguing the defense. But, it’s all about communication. The spacing makes it tough to disguise your coverage. The speed makes it tough to communicate. When Heupel and Alex use motion with that, it causes a lot of issues.

Hendon has 1 pick on the year and 4 in 2 years.

Miss State is the only true passing offense UK has faced this year. Tennessee gets more yards with less attempts and runs with tempo at various paces.

Tennessee hasn't been perfect, but they've hit their stride the last 3 games. Stopping them completely is such an improbable thing. Out scoring them might be the best bet. Similar to last year, 40 minimum. Might take 50.

No

Why does Hendon Hooker care an ounce for something that didn't happen to him, why does a coaching staff care for a loss they didn't lose?

Their minds are 99% on playing Georgia the next Saturday
Y’all are convincing yourselves that UT is going to be looking past us next weekend … I wouldn’t count on that

UK must pressure Hooker. If we sit back in soft zones he will run for 1st downs.
This is the game where Wright and Weaver need to be blitzing regularly.
Even send corners and safeties to pressure him and keep him off balance.

Zone to take away deep balls. Come up and tackle. Make them snap it over and over. Can't have someone pull a dort and be scared to hit, giving up easy tds on rac.

I don't think we'll win but I do think we'll show teams how to counter the UT offense.

(not sure why it wouldn’t let me reply directly)

Probably not better this year but my point is if the TOP is even UT probably wins by 3+ scores.

Speed. Either you have the speed to play one on one with a helper roving or you have d line speed to pressure Hooker. Problem with this is Hooker is their best running back as well. If he sits back and throws slants and posts it will be over in the first quarter. Stat wise we’ve held teams but no team, not even Alabama, has the speed they have at the skill position. Offense is a plow horse vs a thoroughbred. Most days the thoroughbred wins, it just depends on the task at hand. Will this become a day where you need the plow horse more? Bottom line is we need to play penalty free, score first, have a solid game from our special teams and give Levis time to throw. A turnover or two would be nice. It’s not impossible but we would to play our best game of the year, a complete game, which we are capable of playing. For sure nobody is going to pick us to win. The spread may be 14+

Our corner & secondary play is miles better than last year. Will it be improved against Knoxville, who knows. Biggest challenge coming off a bye week is a defense a step slow and poor tackling. Glad we are going in with a strong healthy D line, last yr we BADLY missed Ox & McCall.

We blitz about 7% of the time. I wouldn't expect that to change too much. Rushing with 3 down lineman and bringing a 4th rusher from the LB pos is not a blitz, but simulates one because the offense doesn't know where the 4th rusher is coming from. Expect to see that a lot, just as you did against MSU.

You said it better than me. Disguise/delay rush from a LB, or corner blitz. If timed right could catch them off guard. But if they expect it could open UK up to a big play. Going to be interesting to watch.

Long sustained drives and hold them to FGs.

I don’t think they will overlook us. It’s a black out game and they will be loud and ready. Heupel also seems like a grounded guy that keeps his group grounded as well. I also think he may be the best play caller in the business.

Its two coaches with diametrically opposed styles. I think it’ll be a better game than UT fans think, and an excellent rehearsal for the UGA game for them. I just don’t think we leave with a W.

I say UT 35 UK 24 and both teams leave with heads held high and also could’ve should’ve talking points.

Will feel better if I knew we would score more tha 17-20.

Don't leave guys WIDE open running down the sidelines and all over the field.

Stoops needs to go full blown "Hal Mummy" on Saturday.

Surprise the crap out of UT. They come in expecting Mr. Conservative to try and slow the game down to limit their possessions......and whammo!!!

Hit em with fake punts on 4th down.
Throw 70 yard bombs out of your own end zone on every down you have.
Get the ball with 15 seconds in the half, throw 4 straight hail Marys in the endzone.
Have a db or lb "cramp up" on every UT first down and 3rd down to sub in players.
Get the crowd all riled up like Lane Kiffen.
Have them cussing and throwing crap by halftime.
Late hit their QB on every pass play. (You know they are going to blast WL with no penalties.)

Bring your ugliest old mangy cur dog to hump Old Smokie at mid field.
Ask their sister to marry you instead.
Streak through the Power T ahead of the Vols.

We can win this thing IF we play by THEIR rules.

Feel free to add any other creative ideas you might have that will pi$$ them all off.

Go Big Blue!!!
Make it a day to remember

Don't celebrate, get lined up,.limit explosive plays. Force them to put drives together, have a cramp after every first down.
Agree here

1. UK Dbs have been tackling a ton better then last year. Lovett and Valentines are a ton better then last year. Keidron is a ton better than Dort. Ajian was terrible in last year…hope he’s better at tackling. You have to drop the YAC stuff wjtb them Make them catch it down field va short stuff wjtb YAC
2. Uk has the DLine and Lber to make Tennessee one dimensional and take the run game way less a weapon.

I don’t think UK will generate a ton of pressure and Hooker will have time to pick it apart. But making him sustain drives on his arm I think is our best bet

Agree. One more thing I should have added, UT has exploded at the start of games, trying to score on explosive plays, get teams down a couple scores. Be focused at the start. O lyrics play 1 S and 4 CB if you have the depth. Vol receivers are fast. But they are beating S because of scheme for explosive plays.

Really needs to show up. I know dort was awful last year and made fits tougher, but he absolutely should've made some of those tackles. If he can't, let's get childress in because we know he's been very good tackling this year.

Last year after giving up 2 or 3 scores on short throws (because dort refused to come up) they subbed in Mosely and Geiger and our D more or less shut them down from then on.

Got to have 110% effort n focus for the entire game on EVERY play. Can’t let up. Ball control n keep their offense off the field as has been said many times above and don’t let their defense score or set up any type field position.
Make good/strong tackles n don’t MISS! We won’t stop their offense but got to control it by time of possession/scoring and solid prevent D. Won’t be easy but it can be done!
