Just drove down the newly opened Alumni around CWS and they have done an impressive job over there. The new road is completely different than the last, and the traffic circles are only a small part of the change.

What is most impressive though is how it shows off our athletic facilities. All the work being done on Commenwealth, along with what has already been done at the softball, soccer, and other facilities is outstanding. I can only imagine the massive new football facility they are building will enhance the wow factor. BBN is really in for a treat with the new work over there, looks top notch.

As for CWS, it really looks good. It has a much more imposing look from the road, sort of losing that oversized hs stadium feel and moving more toward an NFL stadium feel.

Can't wait to finally see it in person in less than 3 week!
I heard they did work to Alumni - glad it is helping showcase the improvements.

This video just got posted. Looks great. Can't wait to see this project completed. Will be amazing.

A bit surprised that it's still one lane each way. Seems there is some heavy traffic on that road and not just for games. But that also is another concern...how will that be used for game traffic. The aesthetic is awesome, though. Beautiful.

when I started UK in 1988 I thought it was an awful campus. Now it's night and day and a campus to be proud of with all the great changes.

I wonder if they will ever make it 4 lanes on Alumni out to new circle road. Seems like there is room to do so in 80% of that 3 or 4 mile stretch. I know it gets backed up on game days.

It gets backed up during rush hours as well.

Am a little surprised they didn't make it 2 lanes each way. Regardless, just glad it's back open and detours are over with.

Initially i would agree, however, two lanes would have everyone jockeying for position which normally slows people down more than if everyone would get in line and drive the appropriate speed. The roundabouts will help traffic flow vastly differently than it did before, you don't have to slow down much and they even had "off ramps" for right turns where you don't even approach the roundabout and instead have a separate lane to merge into and then back into traffic with ease. It will take folks a few trips to learn it and not hesitate, but after that, I think it will be night and day different, for the better.

In the middle of the round-a-bouts, they need to put something "UK" in it. Like a polished aluminum 3D U of K statue.

Drove through today and wondered the exact same thing.

Why they didn't make it 4 lanes from Tates Creek to Nicholasville Rd is beyond me.

Funny you mentioned one lane I wondered about that but then I thought for what a few home football games a year ?

I'm guessing the traffic study didn't find the need for it. It's safer for pedestrians and cyclists for it to be two-lanes as that will slow traffic down and single lane roundabouts are much simpler for people to drive thru. This road is supposed to function as a gateway to campus, so making it a gaudy four-lane highway would look terrible.

I get that there are only a few home games a year. I don't even go that way coming to/from games--doesn't impact me personally. So while that's of minor concern, the road is pretty heavily used at other times. I'm sure someone thought about it and made a founded decision...I'm not a traffic engineer, so I defer. And I love that it made a visually very pleasing entry to campus.

It want be to long till they see, that they have to make it a 2 or 3 lane each way.

I think it will flow much better with the traffic circles now than it did before. Even if it was four lanes, they would hit a bottleneck at the stop light on Nicholasville so I'm not sure it would make a huge difference.

I'm sure there was a good amount of thought put into the decision, and the good thing is that there is plenty of room to put in another lane each way if they do need to at a later date.
