West Chester (Ohio) Lakota West cornerback Alex Afari told Cats Illustrated two weeks ago that he's 100% solid and had shut his recruitment down.
But if you thought his official visit to Kentucky over the weekend would be unimportant, you'd be wrong.
It was the first, best opportunity for Afari to rub shoulders with new cornerbacks coach Chris Collins.
"Going over film with the corners coach, Coach Collins, that was probably one of the highlights of the trip," the 6'2 cornerback told Cats Illustrated early Sunday afternoon as he was traveling back home after the conclusion of the official visit. "We were watching film and he taught me a lot in a small amount of time. That really stood out to me."
Afari's lead recruiter has been Vince Marrow so that relationship has not changed.
But until recently Afari believed that Steve Clinkscale would be his position coach.
"They're very similar," he said of Clinkscale and Collins. "They're both competitive. They're both good coaches. Coach Collins is very patient. He's very patient. He teaches you patiently and that's probably what's a little different now."
Afari, a four-star prospect ranked the No. 12 rising senior in Ohio by Rivals.com, was hosted by Carrington Valentine over the weekend. That made sense given that Valentine is a younger corner from Ohio in the program. They also knew one another going into the trip.
Another highlight of the trip: Kentucky offered his younger brother, Sam Afari, a 6'0, 155-pound cornerback from the Class of 2025. Because of his brother's plan to attend Kentucky and also Lakota West's pipeline to Lexington he figures to be a major target for the Wildcats down the road.
"They saw how long and tall he was and he's a track star also, so they offered," Afari told CI. "Overall it went great. They showed me a really good time. They showed me and my family a great time. My mom, my little brother, my older brother, we all enjoyed it."
