Aaron thinks Duke and louisville are still the ones to beat . He does think Kentucky has definitely got into the mix and nate would be a great fit. Also stated slimeball cal trying to get in on his recruitment. good informative information about nate ament

Whenever I think of Cal and him trying to get in on everything that Pope does:

Whatever happens, happens.
If aaron is right about nate holding out until April to see how the teams recruiting him shake out . I have to think it benefits Kentucky with our need for a big wing . I think Kentucky is right dead in the mix for this kid and if it lingers to April this has to be a good sign for us . Come on down nate feel the love

I think it favors Duke.
"Seeing how things shake out" is basically him waiting on stay/go decisions.
UK and UL really don't have any early entry players on their roster.
Waiting on those decisions tells me he wants to go to Duke as long as it's not too crowded.

Of course it would be good if UK had some continuity with at least 7-8 returning players every year but I'm not sure you can do that with 5-star recruits. Most 5 star recruits expect to start and are NBA players a year later if they do start(and maybe if they don't start). At least the ones from out of state that don't start and aren't draft picks are now more likely to transfer than return.

In my opinion, UK shouldn't recruit five stars not from Kentucky unless our coaches expect them to start. I'm thinking if UK doesn't sign any more five star recruits they'll still have 1 or 2 freshman starters. I really don't want to go back to seeing 3 or more freshmen starting. Maybe I'll change my mind if Duke wins it all this year to "it don't matter at all" but for now I'd rather sign a big time portal player at the wing instead of another freshman.

The only way he makes an immediate impact here is if we have other greats around him to take the weight off of his shoulders. After fifteen years I have learned that, unless the guy is a once a generation type player, depending upon freshmen is a recipe for failure.

We haven’t landed a guy like this in 10 years. Kentucky won’t/ and doesn’t do what it takes to get elite players. Thank your AD. He doesn’t go all in to help. Gotta check with the NCAA and compliance with……F it….. Dudes gone to Duke.

I don't think he's a difference maker his freshman year that's my problem with Ament.

Last thing we need is fringe 5 star players treating UK like a stepping stone again.... Pope cannot let that be the reputation.

“Fringe 5 star?” Isn’t he ranked #4 in the class? You don’t just turn that kind of talent away if you can’t get him. And I hear some say “let’s get three portal player for the money “. Nobody really knows how the money divides. And the search for portal players is going to be brutally competitive this year without the 5th year rule.

I get being burnt out by freshman because of cal, but we can’t sit here and say we don’t want a top 5 player because he is skinny. Ament is a good player, and will impact whatever school he goes to next year.
Agreed. I want him. I think he is legit. Won’t cry in my pillow either way but sign me up for sure if he wants to wear the color blue

Portal players is just a big a risk as a top talent in high school in my opinion, it’s what the coach does with the talent once they get to campus that matters

High school recruiting is its own industry unmoored to winning CBB games. College coaches who might not be able to draw up an out-of-bounds play can become hot commodities demanding big $$$ based on how many “5-stars” they can convince to come to the school they’re coaching at, regardless of how that player performs once he arrives. In a chicken-and-the-egg scenario with that you have fans that become excited by the recruiting ranking of their school’s latest class of high schoolers, the hype machine gets in gear and the donations, ticket sales, and merchandise, etc. starts flowing in anticipation. The team is a disappointment to those fans because the thought was “just ship us the title,” but through amnesia or inability to correlate cause and effect, the fans convince themselves the next super class is the one. So, out goes the recruiters again to battle, and rinse and repeat over and over.

Seriously doubt he's a better HS player than Murray, Monk, or Bam.
He'll even Sharpe was higher rated.
BS that UK doesn't do what it takes.
How much are you willing to pay him?
Only so much money to go around.
Look at Rutgers, they have Harper and Ace and basically a div 2 team around them.
We have other spots to fill other than what Nate provides
He's not Flagg, Zion, or AD.

247 - "The bottom line on Ament is that there may be some five-star prospects who are more capable of dominating a game today, but he has as high a long-term upside as potentially anyone in the class."

Everything about Ament is based on potential... that isn't going to come to fruition in his freshman year. He's a great long term prospect but he isn't a freshman that is going to come in and dominate. I would rather take a stab on a portal player personally.

The only benefit in my eyes to grabbing Ament is that it shows Pope has what it takes to get a top 5 player. I meant fringe as in not ready I don't really care about where they rank these guys. As we have seen in the Cal era they are often wrong.
