A Serious Proposal That Should Be Considered

IF, the Big Ten pays out more than the SEC, why not make the switch.

I’m 59 years old, and have spent decades watching us shorted on penalties, like the B. Brown knockdown that cost us 15 yards.

What the Heck, it’s all about the money, so why not the the Southern most Big Ten School?
No. Cost us lots more. Ever heard of TV rights? Big Ten, whether football, basketball, women’s sports, track, for that matter badminton… will be in second place. I choose to run with the big dogs instead of a losers pack. I might not eat first but the leftovers of the king are better than what the peasant puts on the table.

More I think about… Hell, let’s join in a conference with New Mexico State, Montana, and UNLV. Start a club. That’s what happens anymore. Lots of respect with that crap.

No. Cost us lots more.
We are making less than the Big Ten, right now, and for at least the last 3 seasons.

We will see where the dust settles soon, when both get new contracts with their new members, but might never exceed their revenue with the number of large markets they are adding.

“Which college conference has the biggest TV deal?

Big Ten

Topping $1 Billion a Year, Big Ten Signs Record TV Deal for College Conference. The agreement splits the Big Ten's sports among Fox, NBC and CBS, and is the richest annual deal for any college sports league.Aug 18, 2022.”

Love you much Hack but you know that’s not true in the long run. Lordy.
I sure hope so, but being the best in football will not affect the bottom line.

The number of eyes watching will tell-the-take, and even with Texas, they may well out do us with a significant population advantage.

It was, it is, it will be the SEC with the others coming. You know that. I’ll eat in the same trough while others wait their turn. Eyes on the SEC will just keep growing. Not sure for the rest of them. Big Ten will turn into the PAC 10 in time… maybe.

Do you seriously think a southern state where most of the people are ancestrally related to Virginia, north Carolina, and tenneessee. Would fit in well in the big ten?
But many of us have cousins living there who’s parents and grandparents moved north to find work years ago.

This!

Hell and half of Harlan county don’t empty out to visit cousins near the shuttered Steel and auto plants of Virginia, and North Carolina!!

Considering our entire recruiting pitch to northern and Midwest recruits is stay close to home and still get to play in the SEC. I’d say moving conferences wouldn’t be smart

We damn near left because of segregation . . . it came down to a close vote with 7 schools voting that they would play Kentucky if they played an African American football player. Another vote or two and we could not have formed a schedule in ‘66-67 and we were headed North.
Not going to wade into the segregation / social justice angle, but I thought I remember that former UK president Dr. Otis Singletary was secretly and seriously considering moving UK to the Big Ten back in the 1970s(?)(?). I think it was driven by both athletic and academic considerations.

Yeah that ain’t happening

Yes, the SEC absolutely got screwed in the latest TV deals. The BIg 10 will be on CBS, NBC, FOX, and BTN.

The SEC signed their soul to Disney for less money (ESPN, SECN, ABC).

I HATE losing the featured CBS 3:30 pm game to the Big 10. HELL, they are even stealing the SEC theme music in their promos:

Why do people think the Big 10 is better than the SEC in basketball?

In the last 30 years:

National Titles: SEC 4, Big Ten 1.
Final Four Appearances: SEC 19, Big Ten 19
Each conference has been represented by 6 teams in those FFs.

Except for a few conference schools, basketball attendace draws flys.
Basketball interest is about the same. Average conference attendance per game:

1 Big Ten (12,197)
2. Southeastern (11,628)
3. Atlantic Coast (10,773)

I just wish you could get UK games without having to get a cable/dish/streaming service that forces you to pay for a bunch of channels I never watch. If the Big 10 network could pull that off for $10-20 bucks a month, I’d be all for moving to Big 10.

I would go to the Big 10 in a heartbeat. We would be a legit upper tier team (or at least on par with Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan State). I'd rather face Ohio State and Michigan and Penn State than Alabama, Georgia, and LSU (the latter three are better and get better talent, save for OSU).

UK will never do it, b/c so many of our fans have a love affair with the SEC, but I'd love to see them make the move. Also, it would be great for the university as the BIG ten schools have much better academic pedigrees

I was responding to a factual allegation that was incorrect: that Kentucky would never consider leaving the SEC.

They strongly considered it, and very narrowly remained.

There were also reports in the 90s that CM Newton and Co. were considering a move to the Big 10 or ACC. I'm not sure how advanced the discussions were, but this move has been considered by the school (or those associated with the school) from time to time over the years.

B1G wouldn't take us. UK not a member of the AAC&U.

This is not exactly true. Nebraska is not an AAU school. Also, its true that this is a preference for the BIG ten but not a requirement - they would crawl on hands and knees to get Notre Dame and ND is not an AAU school
