I was HOPING for a winning season, then well…20 wins…. Then a first round win to get that monkey off Popes back and the 6 years since the team was only 1 win….now the sweet 16. So fantastic.

That’s why my posts are few and far between these days. Too much reactionary clutter for my enjoyment.

Yeah, and if Cal was coach and the team would have had a 19-12 regular season and under .500 8-11 SEC record this Sweet 16 run would not have made up for that bad performance.

We were 21-10 (10-8) in a conference that had 14 teams make the NCAAT. Several of those teams were ranked in the top 15 at one time or another. And, we set the school record with 8 wins over top 15 teams. Probably set the school record for injuries in a season, too. But, Pope adapted & kept winning, anyway.

We’ve hovered around the top 10-15 all year, ourselves. Not to mention that our roster consisted of only Travis Perry when MP was hired. Personally, I don’t see that as a bad performance. If Calipari’s hypothetical resume included qualifiers like those listed, he would get more rope, too. Not being a massive prick might help him, as well.

I didn’t have the best feeling but a poster earlier said I feel confident and that brought me back. I felt a real sense of calm about halfway thru the game. I was going insane at the end, I wanted the win so bad but I felt like we would win at halftime. We have won about every game we have lead at half this year.

Now I know mostly we struggled this year against physical teams. Illinois are also soft and we win easily

Personally, I couldn’t be happier with Pope. When he had a full roster we were arguably a top 5 team, and certainly a top 10 team. Injuries have fairly ravaged us, and we are still playing. Not sure how you could call his first season anything other than a complete success

Great win and great team, I love watching these guys. Pope is great and will achieve incredible results at UK. This win will also put the boosters in a good mood.
Butler is a beast and must have an incredible pain tolerance, Carr didn't score much but his defense and court awareness was also key to this win. Now they have a decent break to get a bit healthier.
