Aberdeen is a perfect fit with a lot of intangibles

Such as winning a title and being a big contributor. Experience, toughness. We needed a proven player for that 2guard and as a back up point guard.

This guy is basically a championship winner, more experienced version of lewis. He takes that spot and any of us take that trade every day all day. Here something else to consider though. Aberdeen isn’t a star. He’s within striking distance for chandler or Johnson to beat him out for a starting spot. We really need a guy who can knock down threes at that spot. So what this does is give our backcourt an opportunity to compete for min, starting spots, etc

I don’t know if pope made any promises. Hopefully the money spoke for itself but I could see Aberdeen on this team in a similar 6th man role. I could also see him blowing up to claim the 2 guard starter. The great thing is we have three really good players who are going to compete for the starting 2 guard and backup pg back up 2g. The dude is a great fit in so many ways. Really impressed how pope has played the off-season. Really impressed!

Looking back now, I definitely prefer Aberdeen over Lewis.

I like the toughness we saw from him in March. I like that he's 6'5-190, strong, plays DEF. Obviously the F4/Championship pedigree that we had from Butler this year.

But earlier in the year, I honestly didn't see much from him.
His shooting % are ok, not great. Not a lot of steals, or rebounds, or assists, even after taking into account that he played 20mpg.
He's not the "Scorer" that we need. When we NEED a basket, who is going to put it on his own shoulders to go get us one? Oweh (assuming he returns) and who else? Lowe was forced to be that at Pitt, but I think that is why he was so inefficient.
Interesting that we've only had 1 out of 5 college transfers who averaged double digit scoring, and that one is the least efficient of them all.

But I could see him being a Liggins-like player for us next year.

I'm not sure why this is considered so positive. He is nowhere near the shooter of Brea.

But I guess we do have depth.

I personally don’t see him as a Liggins type of player at all. Much better at scoring the basketball.

Brea was about as pure a shooter as you will ever find. I doubt we will ever have a pure shooter like him again, nor will other teams. So, anyone complaining about not having a Brea like shooter is just kidding themselves. Besides, during the first half of the year Brea was so bad on D, we couldn’t keep him on the floor. When you get defense and penetration, sometimes you give up a little shooting. Wilkerson was going to be a defensive liability. Glad we got Aberdeen.

If this was baseball, Aberdeen is a utility player. He can play and guard 1-3 without issue. He can back up all 3 positions if we have injury, if we have foul trouble and so forth. That is what Pope went and done today. Got a guy that can help this team in more ways than most of the others.

Remember when Martin went down with injury, Aberdeen started, averaged 14ppg and 4 rebs per game. Nothing to sneeze at there, also his 3pt % was 41% for those games.

This is the player I hoped for to finish out the roster! If OO comes back and Jayden gets healthy we are gonna be good! We should have the defense we lacked last season!

Is the ST Johns vs Kentucky exhibition game still on this year? You think Pitino still wants to play this game? It is gonna be hard not being able to see this group of guys till the fall.

We had NOBODY last year who can do what Aberdeen does. I love his shake-n-bake stuff, his reverse layups, his COURT VISION.

His moves to get into the paint for the floater, oh my. Not crazy about his 3-pt shooting, but he sometimes (in the highlights) knocks them down.

I think you’re smoking a little crack if you think on day 1 Chandler is within striking distance to take his starting spot. Johnson probably isn’t either, we will see.

Pretty sure I heard that LJ Cryer this year was the first guy to make a final four on 2 different teams (Baylor ‘21 and Houston ‘25), and would have been the first to win a title with 2 different teams.
Thanks. I thought I heard that too.

Maybe Aberdeen can match what he did or even better, be the first to win a title at two different schools. In consecutive years to boot.

And I think Pope would make history with a title as well. I think he would be the first coach to win a title as a player and a coach at the same school.

Reminds me of deandre liggins let's goooooo
One outsider called Aberdeen a 'lockdown defender.' He must be pretty good on D. We play a lot of teams with three good starting guards. Now we can match up with those types of teams. When Oweh needs to go out, we now have a guy that can fill that spot and bring in a guy like Williams at the three. Just saw UL's projected lineup of Brown, Wooley, Conwell, Hadley and Aly F? We will match up nicely with a team like that. And, we should draw a lot more fouls with three effective penetrators in Lowe, Aberdeen and Oweh. Going to be a lot different.

Agreed. Yeah Only person we could rely on to do that last year consistently felt like Oweh so he'll have more freedom. I think Pope has got a pretty balanced team, excited for what's to come.

Good defender. Would not call him “lockdown”.

Not the first, Steve Krafscin did it back in the 70s, think a couple other guys as well.

This year had 3 kids do it all in the same year. LJ Cryer as you mentioned, plus the Gillis kid from Duke (Purdue '24, Duke '25) and Elijah Martin (FAU '23 and UF '25)

Thanks for that correction - apparently my wife is right, and I don’t hear so good! More seriously should’ve thought of Martin, that one was pretty obvious.

Definitely shuts the door on a recommitment from Lewis that some folks wanted. Definite upgrade. College experience. Championship experience. College body. Plays as part of a team.

Plus probably about the same price. If not, doubt it was much more.

I started thinking 🤔 Allen edwards is the only Florida native I can think of before Aberdeen's commitment yesterday to play for Kentucky. I know Florida had a center that transfered here but I don't think he was from Florida. I am sure there has probably been more ,but I can't think of one and I go back to the Pratt casey and issel years .

No, he’s not even the only in this year’s FF to do it. Mason Gillis played played in the last two final fours …24 at Purdue and 25 at Duke.

I also recall a guard named Bob Bender that played on both the 76 Indiana championship team and the 78 Duke team that reached the title game.
