Stoops and company has worked their asses off way too hard to let the basketball coach come in and run his suck like that. Do you guys know what that can do to recruiting? Now all these schools we are competing with for recruits will use that against us. “Why would you wanna go to UK? They’re a basketball school. Even the coach said so”. That shit doesn’t just get blown to the side between coaches and 18yr old recruits. Again, Cal’s ego cannot handle this. It’s Rupp and bear all over again.

I have been to several bowl wins/losses, getting 6 wins and getting into the Music City bowl and beating East Carolina is just not that impressive to me. I love it but cmon! - Now 10 wins and bowls like we have been getting are MUCH better and would be equal to getting to the say maybe the Sweet 16. But these things still are not anything significant in the grand scheme and they have 0 shot of winning the National Title.
Get us into the playoff picture and then we are talking, but as of now we have a long way to go.

You haven't missed anything. The first two games in the Bahamas were against teams that had less talent than a lot of high school teams.

Blowout wins got the sails at full mast for a lot of fans.

This is the kernel. "One and done" is not endearing to real college sports fans. I got sick of having to learn a 90% turned over roster annually VERY fast... and admittedly never cared as much about Naismith's game in the first place. The portal might do similar damage to fan love of college football, except transfer is not really equivalent to flight to the pros. It holds the charm of being potentially a net win thanks to transfers "in".

The football program still feels like part of the institution.

Cal obviously said something that he shouldn't have. But, he was correct. I love UK football, but not recognizing that UK is a basketball school is just stupid. Florida won 2 straight basketball championships and was still a football school. It is no dis-honor to be a basketball school and have a good, competing football team. If you ask anyone not on this board, they will tell you UK is a basketball school. Cal should not have said that in an interview, but denying that it is true is being dishonest.

I'm sure they will make up. Cal will say "I didn't mean that our football team isn't great, I just meant traditionally we are viewed as a blue blood basketball program and need the best facilities." He will be correct when he says that. Stoops will say "we have been doing great in the SEC and are predicted 2nd in the SEC East, so we need fans focusing on our football team and our recruits." He will be correct when he says that.

For some reason, we've become a society of picking sides. Stupid. Love them both, no reason to side with Cal or Stoops. Let two grown men resolve whatever issue they have over off handed comments. I'm super proud that both of them coach at the University that educated me, my kids and my grandkids, and that I love no matter who coaches.

Also josh Allen and Marcus camby are two totally different examples. One was clearly a 7 foot generational talent. The other was a 2 star wide receiver turned defensive player that virtually noone wanted.

Camby was not viewed as a generational talent. Schools like UK didn't even recruit him. He was ranked #46 in the '93 class by Hoop Scoop. Cal is not focused like was, I get that. But saying a Hall of Fame coach with a National title didn't earn what he has is silly. All coaches have success because of how they recruit. Cal is not unique in that. Nor is it the only reason he wins. Penny Hardaway is a great recruiter as well. How many titles does he have? Cal also has a history of developing over looked talent as well. Or is Emanuel Quickly also a generational talent?

It's one thing to be frustrated with how Cal has dropped off in recent years. I'm also getting tired of it. But you are badly over playing your hand by saying he can't coach. Cal when he's dialed in is one of the best to have coached at the college level.

Football funds itself, every other sport, and makes a bond payment on a new academic building constructed 5 yrs ago, and a yearly donations to the university in the millions.
