I found my self going down the Randolph Morris fax rabbit hole last night and the more I read about 2006 the more it reminded me of this squad. Crazy talent and deep bench, weird eligibility issues with big man stretch into the new year, exciting PG rondo, white kid from Kentucky that can shoot the lights out, 3 game losing streaks, playing on Thursday in the SECT etc etc.
That team should have been monsters out for revenge after the way 2005 ended, it just never seemed to click. They blew out a great UL team after Christmas but lost pretty much every other big game until they ruined Tennessees senior night. I will always remember Rondo getting to the rim at will. At the end they gave #1 UConn all they wanted in the second round but it wasn’t enough. Feels like that’s about where we’re headed again. Tubby lasted 12 more months in the big chair.
