So how does this work when 2 guys earning their way to lottery money continue to be snubbed for two guys who have played their way out of the lottery and maybe even the draft?

I’m not at all for Cal benching DJ and Edwards, but this has crossed over to insane. Reed and Dilly need to be THE guys with others backing them up. Period.

Cal is proving once again to be a total hypocrite. My frustration with him is hitting new heights as I, like most others, see the unbelievable potential with this team. They are legit good enough to steamroll to a title. Only their coach will never allow that to happen.

It’s insane. No matter how much Cal’s clan tries to spin it - there’s just no justification. As you’ve pointed out - two of these were projected lottery picks before the season, and have played their way into the second round or out of the draft. The other two have played their way into being lottery picks. And if Z were given 20mpg, he’d likely play his way into being a first round pick this year.

There’s just nothing to say except that Cal is, for whatever reason, not at all doing what is best for the team and our chances of winning.

Things are fine the way they are. Reed and Rob play better off the bench. Period.

OT but I know LeBron had the gall to tweet that about Bronny the other day. After he’s sucked he’s like everyone should let the kid be and develop in the time it takes. When this MF’er the whole time was talking about how he could play for the Lakers and help them right now all season long.

Cals fine, DJ and Edwards have to play so might as well start them. If you’ve watched lately, Dilly gets in foul trouble a lot. Someone has to get several of his minutes. Might as well take a few of those to start the game. Reed also will need a rest, might as well steal a few to start. Also they bring a certain energy off the bench that they don’t when they start. Yea, Reed started a game this year and ….we lost.

LeBron is such an ass. He truly thinks people are so enamored with his basketball skills that they don’t notice how completely FOS he is in practically every other department. One of the biggest hypocrites alive.

Nope. Don’t know how many times we’ve been over this - metrics unequivocally say Thiero is a part of the best lineup.
Our best lineup metric-wise is the Nuclear Five. Sheppard/Dillingham/Reeves/Edwards/Ivisic
ETA - You could swap Thiero in for Edwards and Bradshaw/Ugo for Z but Reed/Rob/Reeves need to be on the court as much as possible IMO

I trying my best to not defend Cal on this one, but is there any chance that he doesn't want it to look like favoritism by starting Reed just because his parents used to play for the school? Playing devil's advocate here, and maybe those actually close to the situation would say that "who he is" really doesn't factor into it.

This is the answer for a final four run

Typical ccc lover response
The entire universe ses that Sheppard and Dillingham are heads and shoulders above Wagner and Edwards....ccc and his cult.
How many games have Wagner and Edwards started that UK lost?

Of course he is playing favorites, Wagner and Edwards. The were promised starting spots.

Sheppard played 35 minutes last game. Dillingham was in foul trouble. If Sheppard starts he still plays 35 minutes.

If Dillingham starts he has 2 fouls by the first timeout.

The coaching staff knows what they are doing. And no players are complaining.
Coaching staff has no clue about anything

How do we know that? DJ went from injured to a starter again. We haven't really seen him come off the bench. Maybe it would spark him. He's been horrible 5 out of the last 6. I know he's getting back from injury but the last 2 games Cal couldn't hardly wait til the 17 min mark to get Reed in.

If, and it's a big if... If Call approached Reed and Rob and said "As a coach, I know you two have it, you should be starting. But I am trying g to get us as ready as I can for the tourney. As a team, we need DJ and Justin to be the versions of themselves we know they can be, to be the best version that we can be. I am going to keep pushing them and give them every opportunity we can to get them to that breakthrough. You guys are already there. We need the to get there as well. Do you two have any problems with me continuing to start them, in hopes they can become the players we all know they can be. "

Atleast that's how I hope it went like. We won't reach our full potential till those two have it click. You just don't give up on them. We saw Justin click the other night, and hopfully that's the start to him being who we thought he was. Hopfully DJ gets there as well.....

Starting DJ and Justin over Reed and Rob is such small potatoes over the other coaching malpractices done this year.

Why start Wagner what had he done to earn the spot over Shep?

And how do you know for sure? In the games Reed has started the team has started no better.
This keeps getting repeated like there’s some big validity to it. It’s not just Reed rather the combination that stupid ass cal throws onto the court. Reed/reeves/ugo/edwards/theiro while better is still not a great 5 on the floor. With Ugo on the floor you need at least 3 other guys who can really spread the floor. Edwards has improved but does he have enough consistency? Until we get a starting unit on the floor that is well balanced there’s not alot that can be really said. Reed/wagner/reeves/Z/theiro or Edwards would be a starting 5 combo that includes Wagner which I think would be great. Wagner seems to be better when paired with two other guards. While I would love to see Dilly start I think he is a better spark plug off the bench mainly due to his tendency to pick.

Every player that has ever played for Cal here says they were promised nothing but an opportunity to work hard and prove themselves. The whole "he promises kids playing time" is old, debunked and stupid. Does he stick with players that he thinks have bigger upsides too long, maybe. But the "he promises kids they will start and play the most minutes" is just a Cal hater agenda talking point that is not true. Reed is second on this team in minutes, behind only our best scorer.

Yeah…but it’s not. It’s not really debatable man. You know this, right? The realgm site lays it all out there.

How are they being snubbed?

They are both projected first round/lottery so clearly how they are used isn't hurting them. How much higher could either of them get?

(I can't believe I'm sort of defending Cal)

I agree with this argument, but if keeping the starters like they have been all year keeps team cohesion as good as it has been all year that is more important. Just look what happened last year. I have my case against Cal but this is not part of it. Its more important who ends the game than who starts it.

I’m of the thought it doesn’t matter too much who starts the game. But if we’re behind, and there is a combo that’s clicking in the first half—why not start the second half with the lineup that gives you the best chance to trim the deficit? I know it’s common practice to begin the second half with the starting 5. But as we’ve seen with this UK team—they are anything but common.

Oh that’s right, we are solely worried about their draft status and not winning games. Sorry, I forgot…
