Zion to Duke

But that’s the problem, can’t whiff on the top talent have and all your current talent leave.

I think I’m to the point where I’m just going to start expecting each season to be about the same as it was with Tubby. Just hope for a sweet sixteen and be surprised if we make a FF. Having the same expectations we used to have with Cal just doesn’t work anymore.

Cal definitely needs to change his recruiting strategy, but he’s needed to do that for years.

We’ve always had exceptional talent to overcome most of the issues that cause you to lose. That seems to be changing....

Don’t you get it man? We aren’t going to be loaded with returnees next year. We will lose Knox, Diallo, probably Vanderbilt, a good chance of SGA and Washington and there’s even rumors that Gabriel is leaving regardless due to money issues with his family.

Zion was the the one and only shot we had to even compete with Duke next year. Wiseman isn’t reclassifing and we only have 2 guys in our class. 2 guys that are just like our current players. Good but not great. Next year will be like this one at best.

I keep hearing (a couple ) people say Gabriel is considering leaving due to “money issues” is there any validity to that? Any quote / link etc ? I’m guessing not

These superstuds still have to play the game. College ain't high school Zion won't be bulldozing a 5'9 skinny kid everyone is his size or bigger

If most players return for Kentucky, which they should, I would take UK’s roster over Dukes next season no question. Old talent >>>>>young talent.
But who had the better talent? Also who do you expect to return? Vanderbilt needs to return.

K signed the 3 best players who all play the same position.

Cal hasn’t gotten a top 5 guy since 2015 with Skal.

K>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Cal and it’s not even close right now.

Yes K is killing it. We all realize it. You however seem to relish in saying the same thing over and over and over. You’ve literally said the above comments like 7x just since Zion announced (and many many more even before that)

Your Avatar and Screen name aren’t fooling anybody anymore. We all know what you’re really about.

You= fake fan

My sentiments exactly! WTF just happened here!!?

Not only is Duke going to be stacked next year, imagine how much coverage and blow jobbing they get from ESPN and everyone else next year.
Don't worry - they'll lose in the 2nd round next year!

At this point just have to hope we have our guys return. Our sophomores will trump their freshmen, just concerned we have too many leave.

Blue goggles off. I honestly have no idea how someone can look that ugly son of a bitch in the face and say yep, I wanna play for that guy.

I’ve thought about this for years and just don’t buy it.

If I’m a premier athlete, and I’m considering my fall back plan, I’m choosing the more passionate fans and larger alumni base.

If these kids have to move away from basketball, it’s going to be their contacts, and not the Duke degree itself, that will open doors for them.

The quality of the education is more critical for the kids who go in expecting to play 4 years.

They go back after their playing days are over. The scholly still pays. Then a Duke degree works anywhere...especially in ESPN or NYC etc.... much more than a UK degree.

In 2010-2012 Cal was sending 1-5 ranked guys to the first round. Now he's getting guys ranked 10-20 to the first round, then reloads with more guys ranked 10-20. Works great for his "players first" approach, but sucks for BBN that wants a championship. This year is another example.

Coach Cal has failed his main job.....keep Duke in check. He has failed big time. Gave em two championships and now they get the best players.

Fuk duke used to get white dudes and uncle toms before Cal. Now they get titles and top stars.

I wont watch this sport if I gotta watch Duke dominate. I will turn it off and ignore it until K is gone.

Does it suck. Yeah, but some folks have a lot of quit in them. Cal however does not. I'm not ready to concede anything before a season even starts. You don't seem like you do either. I like that.

Wow. Never saw this coming.

But K can't win with those guys ala the Twins and Randle class, he'll be on the shitter.
I was thinking that too, but one thing about our super classes was that we always missed on one big fish or a top player returning like with Wiggins in the Randle class and Meeks returning or landing Henry with the Wall/Cousins team.

Kentucky degrees work just fine.

I agree with the ESPN/media angle, but for just about anything else, the combination of brain power and the degree itself, is all they really need.

It’s not as if John Calipari doesn’t have contacts in New York.

These kids aren’t posting their resumes on Monster. They are getting introduced by coaches and alumni.

Duke has landed 11 top-three recruits since the ESPN recruiting database started in 2007. Kansas and Kentucky are next on the list, with four top-three recruits apiece.

What an absolutely idiotic thing to say.

I realize now, you’re not just dense, but you’re trolling. Well done sir, well done.

I love UK. In the state a UK degree is great. Anywhere in the country a Duke degree is great. Not sure why you would argue the point.

Lucky for us greatest recruiting classes ever don't always equal titles...we know that from first hand experience...

At this point the best recruits Cal can haul in for next season are already on the team. His priority needs to be retaining as many as possible.

If we have 4-6 key guys come back as opposed to leave, we will be more than fine...let K deal with the diapers and training wheels routine and then having to replace them and start from scratch the next season...

This is the same K that for years was praised for his integrity in not taking one and done players. He will have the weight of the world on his shoulders next year. I don't think his back can take it. Plus they've been known to fold under pressure. The sun will rise tomorrow and we will still have the coolest coach in the country.

Now that i've had an hour to think about it...I'm more upset that Duke is kicking our ass in recruiting then anything else....after K has been completely unable to teach the freshman how to play any defense this year I don't think he will be able to next year either.

I’m not saying the Duke degree isn’t valuable.

I’m saying it’s irrelevant if you are a basketball player who is well connected.

Those guys get the opportunities they want because they are basketball players.

If they keep their nose clean and get their degree, there are oodles of people willing to help them out. That’s true whether the degree is from UK, Duke, UCLA, etc.

Being a famous basketball player trumps where the actual degree comes from.

Who has the larger alumni base? UK or Duke?

The answer to that question explains why the UK degree carries significant value for the UK basketball player and they can carry that degree anywhere they want to go.

Your holding up New York as if it’s some impenetrable palace and a Duke degree means more. And, I’m saying, not if you played basketball for UK. There are plenty of connected people in New York who would jump at the opportunity to help out a UK basketball player.

I am from the middle of nowhere Kentucky. My parents were nobodies who came from nothing.

I graduated from UK. I work in DC and spend much of my time in Manahattan. Most would consider my job a very good one.

If I wanted to be in New York, all I have to do is wag a finger and it’s done.

I’m no one.

Now, imagine if I was a UK basketball alum?

All those people saying UK will be loaded with experience have their heads in the sand.

At a minimum Knox, Diallo and Vanderbilt are gone.

Chance that SGA, Washington, and Richards are as well
Again there isn't a pro team on the planet that would draft either Richards or PJ right now. Neither are even close to leaving. SGA isn't even a sure thing yet. And as for Vanderbilt he's played a total of 2 games.
