Zion May be forced to testify on whether he took money from Duke

Everyone who thinks Duke will be proven guilty in this case is going to be sorely disappointed. All the lawyer wants is money. They will meet behind a closed door, put their cards on the table, and negotiate a settlement based on who has the strongest case. Non Disclosure Agreements will be signed and that will be the end of it,
Duke will proclaim its innocence, the media will back them up and the case will be closed never to be mentioned again.

“Do I think that Mike Krzyzewski or his assistants were actually involved in any kind of payments for Zion Williamson? No, absolutely not. Frankly, that’s downright idiocy. What is true is Williamson picking Duke was a stunner … There have been plenty of instances where high profile players have gone to schools and it’s been a surprise.”

This quote from Matt Norlander from CBS is my point. I don't think Cal and K are paying players or asking people to. But I think people, whether its shoe people or boosters, are paying them. No way a guy could get $200k to go to another school goes to our school for free. I know you say Cal gets them to the league. He's had more players projected high that failed than have succeeded. No condemnation of him, its pure numbers. But if they're getting paid to go elsewhere, they are getting paid to come here.

“Downright idiocy”? lol okay CHAD.

I guess K had no idea about Bagleys million $ house nor did he know about Zions million $ house? He also didn’t know Duval and Bagley, despite all the experts saying they’d never play college basketball, would have no trouble getting admitted to Duke. He ALSO had no idea that bagleys family went from poverty/bankruptcy to not once committed to Duke.

I can maybe buy K doesn’t go buy the players himself but to say those who think K has knowledge is “absolute idiocy” is ignorant.

Also, you should learn a bit about recruiting, especially for your own school. EJ Montgomery choose Kentucky late in the process because he didn't gel with Zion, RJ and company on his visits. There was also a bit of a log jam with 3 elite SFs along with Bolden and Javin. He was probably a Dukie if not for the chemistry issues.

Beyond the Duke situation, Kentucky just had a lot of frontcourt playing time open up:

EJ committed to Kentucky on April 9, 2018, the same day Sasha Killeya-Jones decided to transfer and a little less than a week after PJ Washington declared for the draft and a little over a week before both Wenyen Gabriel and Jarred Vanderbilt declared for the draft. Reid Travis committed months later to pick up the slack from those departures.

In EJ's mind, it was probably him and Nick Richards at the 4 and 5 going into the 2018/19 season when he committed while Duke was pretty well set with Williamson and Bolden entrenched at the 4 and 5 prior to Montgomery's commitment.

From a purely business decision, I absolutely think there is a $200k difference in going to a school like DePaul compared to going to a UK, KU, UNC, or Duke. Davis wasn't nearly hyped as much as Zion coming out of high school either, but obviously was the real deal. If another top recruit, like Skal Labissiere, had gone to DePaul, I'm certain he wouldn't have been drafted where he was, which is the business case a player like Davis would have to make if choosing between UK and DePaul + $200k

Do people still not understand that Duke can admit whoever they want and it not be an NCAA violation?
The player submits paperwork to be approved for NCAA play, not for a particular school or anything. There is a set of criteria to meet that is actually very easy these days with online classes and such.

This is Dook's version of the "Carolina Way "

Disagree with this. Skal would've averaged 20/10 if he had went to DePaul.

Coach K probably helping with the lawyer fees with this one.

Zion's lawyers file protective order over inquiry into alleged Duke benefits

Lawyers for Ford have indicated they will attempt to depose Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski as part of the case.

Williamson's lawyers have argued that the inquiry is "invasive," "legally irrelevant," and "nothing more than a fishing expedition aimed at tarnishing Williamson's reputation", according to Wallach.

He knows that if he has to testify, he will throw Dook under the bus. They are doing anything and everything they can to not have him testify. He is essentially acknowledging that they were given benefits, but we all already knew that.

Files a protective order in attempt to prevent the need to testify? There's your answer.

If the answer was no benefits taken, then he would be publicly saying that and that he would be glad to testify as such.

I would love to see Duke and K get tarnished for this.

As a Duke fan, I will say that it is fairly obvious all high tier College basketball programs are dirty in some fashion. I don't doubt that Duke has offered benefits to players. I think we all agree that it should not have to come to this as they should be paid within the rules by the NCAA. Take a player like EJ Montgomery, who Duke was in on and recruiting him hard, why would he turn down Dukes "offer" of benefits and go to Kentucky with no "offer" of benefits.

There you have it. Admission of guilt. Now they are attempting to hide among the filth like NC, U6, Auburn, Kansas, Mempiss Arizona and the rest. We all knew it. The fans admit it. Their defense is: We thought it would be ok, cause we think everyone does it.

I guess when you are covered in pond scum all you can see is pond scum.

Wouldn't you love to see the Rat Face Bastard have to take the stand lol Of course he would say were a private school so I don't have to talk about it , and that will be the end of that. Hell the NCAA would most likely have an attorney there and provide that information to the hearing for the Rat .

Well sure, Coach K is a pioneer. The first to pay these kids the money the deserve. A true leader of men.
A Dukie claiming a Duke education is so worthless they should pay players to attend there school.
Anyway to justify, seems like classic coach K

No it’s not ignorance. It’s blind stupidity and obvious agenda trolling... he wants to circle back later and say if K knows then Cal knows and turn the discussion to Cal.

Serious question.. let’s say this is all true and Zion did accept money from Duke, Nike, Adidas, etc. ...

How/Why would a marketing agent that Zion signed after his Duke season know? That’s not information his agent would need to know.. If this was coming from a friend that has been involved with the family for years, ok.. but this is an agent who (I’m guessing) never spoke to Zion while or before he was at Duke.. I’m not saying the accusations are correct or not (but innocent until proven guilty), I’m just curious how/why this agent (that presumably missed out on +$100m) would be the one exposing it..

How could deposing Krzyzewski tarnish Zion's reputation unless they are afraid Krzyzewski might be forced to admit that some of the allegations are true. If neither him nor his family got improper benefits in exchange for for Zion signing with Duke then they would have nothing to worry about. Even if they did, Krzyzewski would have to have knowledge of improper benefits before he could implicate Zion.

It seems reasonable to believe that if Zion and Duke are innocent they would welcome the chance to clear their name. By fighting to keep Coach K from testifying it gives the appearance that Zion and his family are truly guilty and that Krzyzewski and Duke are aware of the wrongdoing.

Shhhhhhh

It must be that those rascally attorneys may trip up the poor, elderly coach K.
He would enter court room in a wheel chair and claim he just had a stroke the night before, but by gosh he won’t let his good name be tarnished.

Lol. You’re channeling @Nooneputsbabyinacorner in dumbassery.

Cmon dude. We both know deep down you know Duke has paid players. Bagley, Zion etc. Not to mention Bagley and Duval, who all the sports writers and journalists said they’d have trouble even getting admitted to play at ANY school much less a prestigious school like Duke.

You know it, but for some reason you feel the need to come here and act contrary on a rivals message board. If this was Cal/UK i would admit it. It’s okay to admit it. You’re not the only school that has been caught cheating.

We’d take you more seriously if you weren’t being daft on purpose. For some reason you need our acceptance and validation. It’s why you post here so much.

Duke's guilty. You owe me a signature. @FrankUnderwood

This will turn out to be a lotta smoke, but we'll never get to see the fire.

Coach K isn't going to say a word. He will go "Sargent Schultz" when pressed by the media. Zion isn't going to admit anything.

Even the basis of the inquiry is shaky. But settlement will happen.

Maybe someone has some evidence that it occurred and Zion or K lying would end up as perjury. That would definitely tarnish a legacy. I don't think either wants to go to prison. There will probably be some kind of settlement reached to keep that from happening for sure. Nike will open up their pocketbook and pay that.

K has already been caught lying. Remember the post game verbal altercation with the guard from ( cant rember school) and he said that he didnt say anything only to have video proving otherwise. I think was a tourney game.

It was Oregon guard Dillon Brooks after eliminating Duke from the tournament. You don't go to jail for being a prick though. Now perjury in court is a different story. That's why I doubt they let it get to that point. Nike will be like here you go.
