Yale

Here's his GO Kitty zone being drawn up...

I almost choked. Lmfao

Sadly I ‘know’ this is the type of game where we’d beat the holy hell out of Yale (or any like opponent). Thanks to Triple C these are truly 50-50 games now and everybody knows it. So sad how far that man has taken our program down over the past six years or so.
Cal deserves a lot of criticism over the last few seasons in particular, but anyone who spams that cringey nickname is just an automatic "ignore" for me.
If you wanna call him "Can't Coach Cal" then just say it.
CCC/Triple C is L1C4 or "Calimari" levels of lame.

Whatever the spread is i’d take Yale tbh. Think we struggle mightily in this one.

Yale returned all 5 starters from their NCAA Tournament team last year. They are good and experienced. Dangerous shooting the ball (they have 2 kids shooting near 50% from 3), and have a versatile stud forward (Matt Knowling).

Won't be a cake walk.
And if they are 4.0 smart will pack in a zone guard the one shooter on the floor and dare KY to hit some 3’s

Triple C or CCC just flows better.

This is a YOU problem. You're the one that needs to deal with it. You can't just tell a guy he needs to spell the entire phrase out when everybody, including you, knows what CCC means.

And no, it's nothing like "L1C4" or "Calimari", the fact that you lump CCC in with those two, says more about you than everyone else.

We have to deal with you Cal thumpers talking about "Swaggy Cal", which is incredibly dumb, so you can just deal with CCC.

Unless you did something stupid while incredibly drunk and your friends never let you forget it or you’re three years old…nicknames are dumb.

Yale is a game I expect to be ugly and why I expect UK to ultimately win by 15 to 20 it is another game where no good can come of it but a lot of bad if it is close for an extended period of time.
Kinda like the fighting Jimmy Chitwoods of Bellarmine?

Not exactly.

Bellarmine is all motion and cutting, very little dribbling, and runs the shot clock down on every possession.

Yale loves dribble handoffs, screens, and perimeter shots (they have 2 near-50% 3-point shooters). They also play at a somewhat slow pace, but not like Bellarmine.

Yale is also significantly more talented. All 5 starters back from NCAA Tourney team from last year.

If Yale is hitting shots, something they didn't do last night against Butler, it could be a dicey game.

I’ve got it at Cats -14.

Would be a very similar spread to the St. Peter’s game if it were on a neutral court. Decent team.

I hope they do zone us. With the way Cason and Reeves have shot the ball as of late, and how good CJ has been at Rupp, it won't end well for them.

CJ is shooting around 44% from 3 at Rupp, and in the low 30's away from Rupp. Not playing basketball for a year and a half has really hurt CJ's confidence, but I still think he will snap out of his funk.

If I'm Yale, I'm playing a quasi pack-line and sagging off when Wheeler or Toppin touch the ball outside the arc. Until Toppin starts taking advantage of those looks (which he can do, we've seen it before) that's the best way to defend this UK team.

Yale also has to concede the defensive glass and get back in transition. None of the above matters if Wheeler/Cason are consistently able to fly down the court with numbers.

Went to the game, sat close, here are some thoughts:

-It's a striking difference between how Cal and his staff coach games compared to Thad Matta and his staff, for example. Thad has a guy instructing defense and a guy instructing offense. They collaborate during timeouts like a pro staff, then go back to the huddle - it isn't always Thad drawing things up, either. (Incidentally, it's still odd seeing Jon Diebler and Greg Oden on Butler's coaching staff ....). Generally speaking, both Matta and the Yale coach let their teams play. They don't micro-manage and scream instructions at players during every possession, telling them where to stand or where to go like Cal does. (I've often cited this as why UK players are so disjointed and tight ... they're waiting for Cal to tell them where to effing stand, which is absurd.)

-Yale does some nice things on offense - they're always moving, and they run back-door cuts. But they don't have enough talent or weapons for UK. That said, they missed a LOT of easy shots and couldn't finish at the rim against Manny Bates. This is a game where someone like Ugonna should flourish due to his length.

-Yale's big isn't afraid to take jumpers ... he did, however, airball two of them. Ha.

-If UK attacks the rim and doesn't rely on 20-ft shots, UK should win by double digits.

-It was refreshing to see teams that make free throws comfortably; they walk up to the line and just look in rhythm.

It’s weird seeing Greg oden coach, when you know if his knees were bad he atleast be a backup big in the league

Great, our scouting report will be to leave to two shooters open.

Their best shooter is August Mahoney. Looks like and has the name of a kid that goes off at Rupp, regardless of how well we defend.

I can already hear Leach sounding like a broken-record (Mahoney hits another one).

The walking embodiment of Beer Muscles.
