Wtf was that clock ruling on candy last possession

Talk about making up crap

He was cleanly sacked with 3:43 and we get the ball with 2:30
That was terrible. Clock should have started on the snap at 3:00 (was a punt). Instead, the clock operator ran the clock on the ready for play and we got 25 more seconds.

Absolutely terrible clock operating. Refs should have corrected that imho.
Only at UK would the clock operator screw the home team

Yeah I’m surprised that hasn’t been mentioned more.

I think it would be if UK just ran out of time down near the goal line. The fact that it ended on UK’s 40 or so with over a minute left is probably why it was t brought up more.

As a Vandy fan, I was very happy about the clock operator’s error. Very dumb.

Go beat Florida, Auburn and then get one at UTjr!

Will be pulling for the Cats the rest of the way.

Yeah the announcers never figured it out. I certainly didn’t. Weird end to a sometimes weirdly officiated game. In the end I don’t think it mattered, realistically it only meant one more play given how long it takes us to get to the line and hike it.

While watching it, I don't think it was the ckock operator, I think he did what the official told him to do. Which was set clock to 3 min and start on his arm. The 25 sec is what conf I see me. I dont know if there is a rule that states 25 sec or where it come from. I dont know the rules well enough. But i dont fault the clock operator, he was just following what the head official said to do.

It doesn't matter if stoops quit playing not to lose with every team and possession we play the clock would not have been a issue his grind it out mentality is a win killer stoops needs to resign or fired hell he can go promote his whiskey nobody else in the country wants him

The refs literally said for them to do that. They said ‘set the clock to 3:00 and run it on the ready for play’ to the crowd.

The clock operator screwed up stopping the clock after the sack for no reason at all. Now, where the refs got the idea that what should happen after that sack was end up running a full minute off the clock, I have no idea.

I pointed it out in the game thread, said I thought Stoops should have been questioning the refs about it at the 2 minute warning asking for a review but of course that never crossed any of the staffs minds

It would have done no good to question a ruling that happened ~1:30 in game time and ~5-6 plays earlier. They're not going to back up and correct that. Once a subsequent play commences, review is not an option. It was bizarre and took an additional 25 seconds or so off the clock. Didn't end up mattering but could have been a major deal.

He did question it. You could actually read his lips saying " 3 minutes 45 seconds" and on top of the refs about it.

Yeah I know he did at the time, but if it was a clear time mistake then ask for a challenge of it during the 2 minute break. Thats something I would think they could review anytime and correct if its an officiating time mistake.

I didnt understand what was happening at the time, don't think the announcers did either, I dont remember them explaining it. But the time keeper did what he was told. I understand the 25 sec clock once the ref wound the clock, but not the 30 sec or so that just disappeared.

You have almost 26 thousand posts here.. As a Vandy fan?

This is correct.

The refs would have stopped the game, again, and directly spoken to the clock operator had they not been in compliance with the directions provided.
The ref said to set game clock to 3:00 then start when whistle blows. They set it from 3:43(when it stopped) to 3:00. Then immediately start running it again almost 30 seconds before whistle blew. Complete screw up. I caught the error as soon as it happened. The coaches and refs should have as well. Also, is the play clock 40 seconds? Why did they run off 43 seconds?

The clock operater starts and stops the clock when he is told. He did exactly what the on field official told him to do. The mistake, if there was one, was by the on field official.

The mistake was on on both. On field official said to start clock when whistle blew. Instead clock operator started clock as soon as time was ran off to 3 minutes and was never corrected. Didn't really have an effect on outcome of the game but was very poor officiating

In college football, there are 40 and 25 second play clocks. The 40 second play clock starts at the end of the previous play. The 25 second clock is in place of the 40 second clock after things like an official timeout or inadvertent whistle.

The issue here is UK sacked Pavia with 3:50 left on the game clock. The 40 second clock started a few seconds after that (I believe at 3:43) and ran down. Vandy lines up to punt the ball. Something happened and the official stopped the clock with his whistle at around the 3:00 mark. Then the official told the clock operator to put up 25 seconds on the play clock and start both the game and play clock on his whistle. They punt the ball with 2:38 on the clock.

So, from the time UK sacked Pavia on 3rd down to the time Vandy punted the ball on 4th down took 1:12 of game clock.

No, i was trying to understand what was going on, clock didn't start until ref wound his arm with 3 min on game clock and 25 sec on play clock. Vandy didn't snap until under 2:40 left. Official told clock operater to put 3 min on clock and start on arm which is exactly what clock operator did.

Yes…it was the officials fault bc they had already run the 40 second play clock while the game clock was running and then followed it up with the 25 second play clock on the whistle when the game clock also started. So, they had 65 seconds of play and game clock to punt the ball.
