Coaching has been atrocious. Just because I play devils advocate that doesn't mean that I'm giving stoops a pass. at all. we are at the mercy of his contract and he has been terrible since the day he picked up the call from TAM.

Be that as it may, we are way behind on NIL and recruiting compared to the rest of the conference. This is not in debate.

Do you think the coaching, and as a result, the effect of poor performance has dampened a willingness to "pony up"?

It happened with Cal, I'm sure there were a lot of donors irked to hear a coach making top 10 money for 5 to 8 wins a year questioning support of the program.

If there is a guy Stoops wanted, and could get, that didn't come here because we couldn't afford them, that would be news to me.

Cal's biggest gaffe to me was when he claimed publicly that we are a "basketball school". Even though if it's true it was counterproductive and tone deaf. Stoops made his biggest gaffe when he said "pony up" and it was also tone deaf. Both remarks did damage to the football progam. But I think it struck a much bigger negative chord with the general fanbase. It's always been said that stoops has a great relationship with out big donors and they are very supportive of him. They actually chose stoops over cal by in large. But his pony up remark really dinged his repour with the fanbase. At the very least, it put the pitchforks within reach. At most, it could have turned fans away from donating all together. It was certainly a dumb thing to say

Transfers are not included in recruiting rankings. There are independent ranking for the portal. Our NIL money shows up for big positions like QB and a few others, but it sure would be nice to be able to buy an O Line and not just a single player.

People don't like to have their parade rained on and that makes sense. Take this thread for example, it's a thread about Sumrall. Sumrall would do well here and it's exciting to think about it. I'm all for it. But how exactly do people think it comes to fruition? We can't fire stoops so what's next? Will he leave on his own? Possible but probably not. So all roads lead to Stoops in 2025. All that stuff aside, now we can talk. So Mitch hated Cal. Like those two hated each other. Cal's buyout was 33mil or so and Stoops buyout is a whopping 44mil. Mitch wasn't willing to eat 33mil to fire Cal and he really didn't have the money for it anyways. Ok so lets look at Stoops. Mitch really digs stoops. They actually like each other. Now we have to ask ourselves if Mitch wasn't willing to fire his enemy for 33mil, then what makes you think he would pay 44 mil to fire his friend? The athletic department does not have 44mil to fire stoops. They just don't. stoops is also the all time winningest coach in program history and has two 10 win seasons here recently. It may have run its course but Mitch still wont feel he has grounds to terminate at such a heavy price tag.

Now here is a scenario for you that could deliver a new coach. Actually a couple scenarios. Stoops decided to make like Bob and just retire and walk away from everything. Seems unlikely but possible. The other is another team swoops in and hires him away. The new team would not have to pay the 44.

To me if Stoops were to be out next year then it would require he and Mitch to sit down and negotiate a fair separation agreement. Stoops would have to be contrite and accept the fact that it isn't working and/or he isn't' happy and Mitch would be compelled to seek a smaller buyout so that all parties can come together since they all want the same thing. Stoops is within his rights to tell mitch to kiss his ass and either pay his salary or pay his buyout. But I don't see stoops doing this to the school or his boss.

Sure he lost a lot of games that were inexcusable but he was ran out of here due to his post season record the last four years.

Stoops has none of that going for him. Cal was at least good at deceiving for a few years but there is no light at the end of Stoops’s tunnel and has nothing for the fans or university to look forward to.

It's absolutely in debate, as far as recruiting is concerned, as to if we're behind the "rest of the conference ", even if Vanderbilt just got ejected. We're invariably behind half the conference, ie, bluebloods, and usually manage to fit right in with the bottom half. Here's who is always last-Vanderbilt. But they're having a much better season than us.

The old “we’re 13th in the SEC in recruiting” just don’t fly, anymore.

We’ve averaged more like 10th, and with a four year national average at 20 or near it, we should have enough talent to play with those within 20 slots of us . . . as Vandy is competing against conference opponents who are typically 40 slots ahead of them in
recruiting.

If Mitch wanted to get rid of stoops he could do it today for cause over the NCAA violations that stripped wins.

If he were smart, he'd use it as a bargaining chip to settle on a much lower buyout (less than 10mill imo). Then you pay a guy like sumrall half of what stoops is making and you have that money back in 2 years (or less because of pope).

Either way, it boils down to whether Stoops is really ready to move on and if Mitch has the stones for it. Rumor has it he had sumrall on speed dial during the TAMU debacle, so I think he might.
